The stone mountain sculpture is a beautiful piece of work, and should be left for that reason.

Again, late in O'Bama's second term, and only concerning Stone Mountain. Still waiting for an honest answer. I don't expect it will be forthcoming.

Any how you have become tiresome and rather boring with your Obama obsession. I suggest help.

Yep, works every time. Um, or so I've heard. ;);)

I live in a rural area, so it's not a problem. They actually mark the polling station (a church) WITH a burning cross.

Enables the knuckle draggers find the polling places.

Only heard of it the other day and was unfamiliar. Saw the Dem cand running for Gov and she wants it removed.
I strongly disagree with her stance. It is beautiful sculpture, what it represents can be explained on site, as we see at other parks and monuments.

I love that photo. I love it about 100 times more than the statue, which I find kinda blah. I googled, and am the statues are nice looking, but nothing really special.

But the photographer who took the picture had talent, great framing, great lighting, perfect picture.

The link has over 50 photos. You might want to take a look.

The nations most beautiful city street.

I suppose it could be remove the same as this Buddhas of Bamiyan | | Alluring World which would also be a great lost of history.

So what's would be next to destroy? Would Mount Rushmore be reduced to just two faces?

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered.
And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

George Orwell, 1984

The bigger question is, why is this all of a sudden such a problem? Why wasn't it an issue during the eight years of the Obama admin?

Blacks have been spitting on Confederate monuments as they walk by them for decades and decades and decades

If the South had won, I wonder if the faces on Mount Rushmore would be painted black in protest to their being sculptured?

Spoiler alert. There's an actual battle flag photo. You might want to be prepared. Around photo 50.

I don't trigger easily. I am not a conservative!

Srsly though, I stand by my original comment. That first photo is great. The statues are nice but nothing special(like Stone Mountain). A couple of the pedestals are really nice, I especially like the one in the traffic circle.

An honest answer was given, you just didn't like it.

A few morons, yes. But today most blacks oppose the removal of them.

You have to experience the entire Avenue taken as a whole. I have, many times. Why is Stone Mountain so special. Looks like a bunch of chopped up rocks.

I'm joking of course. I am not in favor of removing any irreplaceable art work which seemed to have offended no one for decades and now must be destroyed before sunrise.

Evidence? Not here they haven't. Like most people they just walked by or admired the art'

Sure. Get rid of it. Heck, get rid of all the states south of the Mason Dixon line too. Hell, why not just get rid of white people to be on the safe side. You never can tell when some honkey is going to go all "white pride" on you so it's best to just kick them all out.

I get the sarcasm but Luther our country is in big trouble. And much of it comes from ignorance of people and the lack of critical thinking. I blame the take over of education by the left for the ignorance and not teaching critical thinking. In dealing with history a good teacher takes the students back in time laying out what was the political thought at that time, what were deemed acceptable practices according to the societies they lived and what were the problems of their democracies. In our own government we were taught about the influences of philosophers on our Founders and how that molded our Free Republic. We had Civics 101 on how our government is to function, the separation of the branches of government, the Constitution. Kids don't get that today.

Those involved in the Nazi, white supremacist groups are young in their twenties and mostly males.

Those involved in groups like Anti-fa are also in their twenties. I did a post on fascism in another thread and the so called anti-fascist group are more in line with the ideology of Hitler's fascism yet today they call themselves anti-fascists. The Nazi white supemacists also bear resemblance of Hitler's fascism. Unfortunately our youth are so ignorant they wouldn't be able to spot Fascism, Marxism or Socialism if it bit them on the arse.
Unfortunately for the rest of us we are all paying for their ignorance.

Today it is taking down Confederate statues tomorrow it will be renaming the 10 forts named after Confederate soldiers.

Hood
Beauregard
Bragg
Gordon
AP Hill
Lee
Pickett
Polk
Rucker

And then it will be sanitizing all of the founders who were slave owners of any name on a building, airport, highway, monument etc.
If you sanitize your history then what good is it?

As many as 620,000 individuals lost their lives during the Civil War, more than in any other war before or since. Confederate deaths were about 260,000 of which 93,000 were killed in combat, while Union deaths were 360,000 of which 110,000 deaths were in combat. Disease was the major cause of death in the civil war.

Not everyone was on board in the South for slavery. Many brave people in the South worked at great peril to free slaves in the Underground Railroad.

And not many folks know during those years in the South, their clergy was teaching the people there was nothing wrong with slavery. These people didn't think they were doing anything wrong. They were taught the black man was inferior and by giving them work, clothing and a place to live you were doing a good deed.

After the Dred Scott vs. Sanford ruling led to the outbreak of the Civil War. Abolitionists became outraged. But after all the bloodshed and the Union won, Blacks were running for office to represent their constituencies including in the South!. By the turn of the century there were over 5000 Blacks elected to office from local, state and federal government positions. Things were turning around until Woodrow Wilson. He was an elitist Democrat who believed people of color were inferior. He then segregated the federal government not allowing blacks to share the same space as whites. At that point The Dixiecrats of the South knew they had a friend in Wilson.
Also after the election of Wilson, prominent groups of socialists ranging from working class to elites disappeared as they found a friend in Wilson and became part of the Democratic party.

Some of Wilson's policies reeked of fascism. Fascism seemed popular in the early part of the 20th century in one form or another throughout the world. Elements of fascism continued in FDR's New Deal.

Fascism, Marxism, Socialism all really have fine lines that divide them. And all rob a person of their liberty and freedom.

Sorry for the history lesson. I felt it needed to be said.

As if you would recognize an honest anything.

Deflection and a personal attack from you. If that's all you got, you've lost.

Greetings, Vesper. :2wave:

I'm just sorry the rules on here don't allow me to give you two likes for your great post! I'm part of the age group that was taught true History in school, not the kind that is being taught today for political reasons, sad to say!

And for the record, I do NOT want Stone Mountain messed with in any way! :2mad:

It seems Democrats are particularly eager to whitewash this part of our history. I believe due in large part for their role in it. ;)

They do not want to be reminded that democrats founded the KKK, filibustered the civil rights act, and it was Democrat Governor Goerge Wallace that attempted to block black students from walking into the University of Alabama.

I agree. They are all historical markers. If we sanitize history, we will never learn from it.
