U.N. General Assembly repudiates Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat of U.S. aid..[W:21]

Re: U.N. General Assembly repudiates Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat of U.S. aid cuto

I am talking about what Americans think Israel should be and how they view it. If anything Americans should learn to stay out of other nation's and their own issues.

If anything the Europeans and the UN should learn to stay out of other nation's issues.

Re: U.N. General Assembly repudiates Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat of U.S. aid cuto

A double apology:

I sincerely regret that both my nations, the United Kingdom and Sweden, saw fit to vote against the United States in the General Assembly. That the UK should have voted against its foremost ally is disgraceful. Sweden's foreign policy has been contemptible these eighty years; it has cringed before Naziism and Stalinism so it is no surprise that is bows before Islam.

As someone of Scandinavian descent, I'm very happy for Sweden to vote against the US in this issue, I'm glad the Swedes still have a modicum of common sense to do whats right. Kudos to the UK as well for not becoming Trump's poodle.

Re: U.N. General Assembly repudiates Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat of U.S. aid cuto

No. Blackmail is when money is demanded with menaces. The US is not asking for money from anyone, simply saying it might pay a bit less to an organisation which consistently works against it.

And I think this is a good start:

Ambassador Haley on the United States Negotiating a Significant Reduction in the UN Budget

December 24, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Today, the United Nations agreed on a budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. ‎Among a host of other successes, the United States negotiated a reduction of over $285 million off the 2016-2017 final budget. In addition to these significant cost savings, we reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions, bolstered support for key U.S. priorities throughout the world, and instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system.

“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known. We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked. This historic reduction in spending – in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable UN – is a big step in the right direction. While we are pleased with the results of this year’s budget negotiations, you can be sure we’ll continue to look at ways to increase the UN’s efficiency‎ while protecting our interests,” said Ambassador Haley.

The Swedish political class an 'common sense' in the same sentence? Now there is something to make me grin on this Christmas morning.

Total lack of detail. Also no description of the negotiation process and other nations involved.

In essence, a political statement without context or specifics. Word salad.

Abu Dis is a section of East Jerusalem, that is controlled by the Palestinians, that has been mentioned as a possible Palestinian capital.

"Mr. Abbas also confirmed a recent New York Times report that the Palestinians had been told they would be offered the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Abu Dis, which they already control, as the capital of a future state."

12-3-17

" Mr. Abbas started making phone calls to political leaders in the region after he had left Riyadh.

One Lebanese government official who received a call was most surprised by what he said was a Saudi suggestion that the Palestinians could have Abu Dis, a suburb of East Jerusalem, as their capital.

Abu Dis is separated from the city by a wall built as part of Israel’s separation barrier.

The Lebanese official said no Arab could accept that kind of gamesmanship, adding that no one could propose that to a Palestinian unless a person lacking experience was trying to flatter the family of the American president."

Would changes to the security wall, make Abu Dis more desirable as a capital for Palestine?

As there is more peace from Palestinians, Israel can become more generous. In addition to improving the conditions in Abu Did, with money, gates can be installed at more convenient points of transportation, in the Jerusalem security wall, As peaceful conditions deteriorate, the installed gates can be sealed back up. Israel can negotiate with itself, based upon actions from Palestinians.

A Peace Agreement can be strong, whether it is written, or an unwritten evolution of understanding. Israel, the US and Saudi Arabia can become more flexible and generous, as Palestinians quiet down. What about expanding Abu Dis sports or soccer tournaments?

Negotiations can be held by gauging the reaction of the silent, reluctant party, as strategies are advance or decreased.

A number of articles quoting Col. Danny Tirza describes the dynamics of the walls built by Israel. There are also maps of the gates in the walls. Gates can be expanded or closed, as conditions seem to require.

Re: U.N. General Assembly repudiates Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat of U.S. aid cuto

"
President Trump complained that Palestinians “disrespected us” by refusing to meet with Vice President Mike Pence during his recent trip to the Middle East, and he threatened to withhold more aid to the population.

Trump’s remarks Thursday to reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, came as he engaged in an especially amiable meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It marked a stark contrast with his criticism of the Palestinians, at a time when relations between the two sides are at an especially low point.

Referring to American aid to Palestinians, which is humanitarian relief, Trump said, “That
money is not going to them unless they sit down and negotiate peace."

“That money is on the table,” he added, suggesting it’s no sure thing.

Last week the administration withheld $65 million, more than half of a sum promised to a United Nations refugee program and intended for Palestinians.

Trump reiterated his belief that his Dec. 6 decision to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to move the U.S. Embassy there from Tel Aviv, removes a sticking point in the peace process. Trump added, however, to Netanyahu’s visible discomfort, that Israel “will pay” later for getting that concession up front."

Trump said Palestinians 'disrespected us' by snubbing Pence and threatens to yank aid

What has the US done to enhance the desirability of Abu Dis as a Palestinian Capital?

What is holding up US funded improvements in Abu Dis?

The US could fund dumping trash from Israel, some place else, without any permission.

Cheaper water can be provided to Abu Dis.

One approach to negotiating peace, is to examine the statistics for Palestinian violence.

Is violence at a low point? Is violence trending toward increasing?

Palestinian violence against Israeli citizens seems to be at a low point, at this time.

Comprehensive Listing of Terrorism Victims in Israel

Violence is best controlled by the social deterrence within the Palestinian community.

How can the US assist in perpetuating the current dynamics tat are quashing violence?

Annex III, Article I, describes the Palestinian authority to make arrests.

https://books.google.com/books?id=J...palestinian authority power to arrest&f=false

There is occasionally a point of conflict, when the IDF makes an arrest of a Palestinian person. One option to reduce tensions during arrests, where the detainee has been identified, would be for the IDF to request that the Palestinian authority make the arrest of the identified individual, where the Palestinian can be turned over to the IDF, in more peaceful circumstances, than a street or home arrest. In many cases, the delay of arrest for a few days will not seriously erode IDF security, If the Palestinian displays his ID, the IDF can photograph the ID, and release the Palestinian, for arrest later, after requesting the arrest by the Palestinian authority, for a negotiated point of turn over t IDF custody.

Palestinian cooperation in IDF arrests of Palestinians could lead to a reduction of tensions between Israel and the Palestinians,

"The Palestinian arena has recently been dealing with the repercussions of an incident that suggests the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israel exchange information on prisoners in order to prevent armed operations against Israel. On April 9, three Palestinian men were arrested in Ramallah by the Palestinian security services in coordination with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which brought back to the minds of the Palestinians the issue of security coordination between the PA and the IDF.

On March 31, Bassel al-Araj, 33, from Bethlehem; Haitham Siyaj, 23, from Hebron; and Mohammed Harb, 19, from Jenin, who were living together in an apartment in Ramallah, went missing.

On April 1, a cleaner working for the city's municipality found a bag in a garbage bin that contained a laptop, mobile phones and the men’s identity cards.

A relative of one of the men told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity, “Before arresting them, the Palestinian security forces had raided their apartment in Ramallah and did not find anything unusual. The Palestinian security investigations confirmed that they were not detained by Israel and that they did not leave the West Bank. This raised more doubts and caused the public to become concerned about their disappearance.“

Details of Palestinian cooperation with IDF arrests of Palestinians, may need more development to work smoothly.

Oh, fantastic. I love books that compile primary sources.

I was looking for a source on what I suspect is common knowledge, that the Palestinian Authority has the power to arrest Palestinians who may be wanted by the IDF.

I've discovered that it is a mistake to assume that anything is common knowledge. And the more you study and learn about something, the greater the chance of making that mistake.

The underlying idea was that Palestinians could cooperate more fully with Israelis in turning over individuals wanted for questioning or arrest by the Israelis. This would reduce the tension when the IDF makes arrests in Palestinian areas. Turning over Palestinians wanted by the IDF, may not work in all cases, but to the extent the practice could be utilized, the peacefulness might increase in the area. The Palestinian participation in the arrests by the IDF, would be a process in social deterrence for the Palestinian community.

In what other ways can the US encourage the social deterrence dynamics of Palestinians and Israelis for peace?

Re: U.N. General Assembly repudiates Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat of U.S. aid cuto

Here's Nikki Haley's speech to AIPAC right now, as I listen.
She's certainly a rock star in the view of Israelis and AIPAC right now.

Pence's speech followed on my loop. Theses two GOPs are certainly the darlings of AIPAC.
But not Trump, in spite of Jerusalem.
Netanyahu faces more immediate legal concerns, but both are in serious trouble.

Politically imo, Haley's speech, as well as her recent one to the UN, has its share of trashing Obama on a number of issues.
It's the USA and Israel against the UN and Obama to Haley.

She enjoys playing up the 119-2 them versus us game.
Too bad, it ruins her message and causes further division in the States and the World.

Comparing her bullying as a child to the bullying of Israel by the UN is more of her dramatics.
Bashing UNESCO. Playing up Jerusalem. Courage of Trump. Playing to the right of Likud.
Too bad, since Haley raises any number of great points.

Heard of this speech from i24news, which has been reporting on AIPAC.

Their reporting on everything Syria, the collapsing Iran deal, the very real problem of Iran on its own;
Russia a menacing problem for Israel, North Korea in Syria, Iran in Syria, it's all about Syria imo, unless it's about North Korea ;
