Anybody who hasn't should read the book Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. That's the kind of world that gun control will lead to.

Hate to break it to you but guns will not stop an authoritarian fascist dictator.
Maybe in a tiny undeveloped country in the middle of nowhere.
Here? Not a chance.
AND DONALD TRUMP'S RALLIES are a carbon copy of "Two Minutes Hate"...all you have to do is swap "Emmanuel Goldstein" with "libtards".

i've read it more than once. i'd say that the bigger risk is inventing fake realities for political advantage, which is absolutely happening right now.
Well it's good to see that you didn't actaully read the book yourself and are simply going off reference.
But the children in the anti-trump camp have been failing at trying to make these same inclinations about Trump for the past few years now. So I can't fault you for sticking to the same tactic, despite how incorrect, poor and tired the choice may be.
Uh yeah I did actaulllly read the book myself.
If anyone was a candidate for Room 101, it's you.

I read 1984 as part of my required reading in High School and I graduated way after the 1960's. I also read Brave New World, Animal Farm, Lord Of The Flies, and Anthem by Ayn Rand. Anthem is a particularly good book that I highly recommend. In the 1960s it was nearly impossible for a high school student to reach graduation without having read 1984 - today I imagine it is more likely they have read the autobiography of a Nigerian lesbian and her discovery of self in a joining a Mesoamerican Indian insurgency, ending in her appointment as a critical studies professor at Berkeley.

As they were for me, but perhaps some of the people here should reread it.1984 and Brave New World were given as standard reading assignments when I was in High School; I thought most would have read them before graduation.
You do realize that you're the one who's backing such standards and not people like Trump, correct?
We can look and see that it's the democrats who've been acting more in line with the book. Up to the near destruction of civil liberties and yet you want to pretend otherwise.
So even if you did read the book, you're outright lying about it's premise when compared to Trump's administration.
Of course guns won't stop an authoritarian fascist dictator, its the people using the guns that do the stopping not the guns themselves. It was George Washington's army that used guns to stop the British.

Maybe not but that's not to say they couldn't have a Room 101. What's to stop the government from having a Room 101 and putting people in it?The UK has had a pretty extensive gun ban for about 23 years, still no sign of Room 101
Yes that is another good analogy. Burning books can be likened to seizing guns.Actually Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" makes a better analogy with his firemen employed to burn books.

The US government operates on checks and balances which is supposed to be a deterrent against such stuff happening, but just in case that fails we've got armed citizens, we've got an armed population. What's to stop the US government doing the same ?
The British government was exerting social control by seizing guns, even if that wasn't their objective or intention that's exactly what they were doing when they were seizing guns. And by seizing guns, that gives them means to exert more social control. The objectives are different though
The British government didn't ban seize guns to exert social control.
