Everyone has something lying around that would have sufficed. An old pair of tighty whities, a handkerchief, a sock basket with a collection of single socks. Dr Birx could have demonstrated using a scarf to protect the people that you come in contact with.

We have all these so called experts in the CDC and NIH sitting around predicting a pandemic. You'd think they would have war gamed different scenarios and responses. We essentially started from scratch with CDC being a hindrance, same with the FDA. I couldn't tell you what NIH does other than Fauci working the cocktail circuit.

If they lied to us in March how do you know they're not lying to you now?

Since nothing is 100% its a layered defense approach. If wearing a mask is 80% effective in stopping transmission and reception the two combined, that is both people wearing a mask are 96% effective.

They were told not to wear masks. They weren't told the reason for it. It was implied that people didn't need masks. They were purposely lied to so that health care workers could get their PPE.

Even Bush Jr. who many thought was not that good of a president was at least a good leader.

Clearly, you have no clue how the cloth masks work. Wearing a cloth mask protects others and minimally protects the wearer. When a person talks, sneezes, coughs, or even breathes, saliva particles are expelled into the air. Those particles become airborne inside where there is poor ventilation and forced air from furnace/air conditioning units to help move those particles within the environment. They also are airborne outside and can be caught on the wind to travel greater distances, but that can be a benefit too because it keeps them from lingering nearby.

When breathing in while wearing a mask, some air comes in from the sides of the mask. Saliva particles containing virus molecules can be breathed in from the sides, or they can even land in people's eyes. When breathing out, coughing, sneezing, or talking while wearing a mask, most of those saliva particles are blocked inside the mask, so they do not reach the air to become airborne. It is not 100% effective as some, smaller particles get through the mask or out the sides, but it is 50-75% effective. The saliva particles that get out tend to not go as far, so social distancing also becomes more effective. By wearing a mask, you protect your fellow Americans. If you truly care about your country, it is your duty to wear a mask and protect the people around you.

My daughter lives in california and if you think it is in any way locked down you are mistaken. She is trying to move out of state because no one is wearing a mask. And how is it working out for the southern states who opened up right away? I guess you have not been watching any real news if you do not know. I look at the countries who really locked down and are now opening up their economies. they are being watchful and making sure any flare ups are taken car of, but they are doing well after really locking down while we are the laughing stock of the world.

The recommendation for homemade masks is at least 2 layers, which gives reasonable protection from spread. 3 Layers is better with a filter layer between the 2 cloth layers. People need to make some effort and do a little research in life and death situations.

Do you really not understand how this works, or are you just lying like always? The mask stops a sick person from getting other people sick, not the other way around.

If a sick person coughs into their hand, touches a credit card processor at checkout, and then I touch it, nothing about my mask will protect me. But if that sick person had coughed into their mask, I probably would have been protected.

i'm not sure where you're getting confused. the mask protects other people from you. if someone wants to go out in public, masks should be required. if a store wants customers, masks should be required. if brain free maskless morons show up in a store, both the brain free moron and the store should be fined. this will help to solve the problem of brain free maskless morons spreading the virus in public.

Finally, you are coming around. Let's say your numbers are accurate. If you are the one wearing a mask and no one else is, there is an 80% chance that you won't get the virus. I don't dispute that that number would be higher if everyone wore their masks. But, I look at the world in reality and not on emotion like lefties do. They fantasize way too much in important matters such as this. The fact is, that no matter what you do, there will be others who are not wearing their masks. You cannot change that. So, it leaves you the choice of wearing YOUR mask for 80% protection or not going out at all. That's your choice because no matter what you do, that is the reality. It is not reality to expect that 100% of others are going to be masked when you go out. To gripe and bitch about it does not change your 80% figure. Sometimes, such as the last four years, lefties feel better about themselves if they gripe and bitch about things they can't control. The bottom line is, if you don't want to catch the virus then YOU wear your mask (for 80% protection) of you don't go out. That's what I do.
