Sanders reveals free childcare plan for preschoolers - Axios

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders announced on CBS' "60 Minutes" Sunday a new plan to guarantee free child care and pre-kindergarten to all American children from infancy to age four.

Once again, Bernie is trying to bribe the voters with their own money. Won't be too long before he offers everyone a free new car in exchange for voting for him.

This unrelated part I found to be hilarious:

Sanders also criticized 2020 Democratic rival Mike Bloomberg over his stop-and-frisk policy while New York mayor, calling the policy "horrifically racist." But he said he would back the billionaire if he were the eventual nominee.

So Sanders will gladly support a person like Bloomberg who implemented a "horrifically racist" policy for 12 years.

What a hypocrite.

I am fine with free child care as long as the parent is employed.

Leftists want our children under their control early. Easier to brainwash.

Kinda funny that a member with a racist and sexist username brings up racism.

What Sanders describes as "free" is simply having others paying for that good/service based on those others allegedly having "too much" income/wealth. When the goal is ever more equality of outcome (via government enforced income/wealth redistribution) then the incentive to produce as much as, if not more than, one's household consumes largely disappears. When all basic needs become "rights" (supplied "free" by the government) then one only need work (on the books) in order to secure luxuries.

I wonder how many people out there are thinking to themselves...why in the Sam hell do I have to pay for "free" childcare when I don't have any children that need care?

Hmm... why not free housing, food, clothing, transportation, medical care and utility service as long as someone in that household is employed? BTW, who is going to provide these free goods/services?

It's a huge cost, for sure. Childcare costs in America can be very, very expensive. Colorado added Kindegarden to public school, so you don't have to pay for that here now. It's harder to say if pre-K should be included in that. But single parent homes can really suffer under the costs of childcare. Some families that are fortunate enough to be able to make it with 1 income sometimes choose to be single-income because the other parent couldn't make enough to justify the childcare costs.

So we can talk about this being a "give away", but there is a real issue at the heart of it here. I don't agree with Sander's solutions to most these problems, but what he does talk about are actual issues that exist.

You pay property taxes to support public schools even if you don't have children, so.....

So what's wrong with free child care? If a parent has to stay home with a child instead of working, how does that contribute to your economy?

Childcare can help drive the economy – forget the big boys' toys | Lucy Powell | Opinion | The Guardian

I wonder how many people out there are thinking to themselves...why in the Sam hell do I have to pay for "free" childcare when I don't have any children that need care?

Because Sanders has decided that some have "too much" income/wealth and others have "too little" income/wealth and that the federal government has the Constitutional authority to play Robin Hood.

Probably the same people moaning about kids these days being so poorly educated and demanding politicians do something about it.

Why not just force employers to pay for childcare. They need to pay a livable wage, right?

You are already providing them which is why I said as long as they are employed. It will help people along the margins return to the workforce and transition away from other welfare programs. Not like anyone who is already well established is going to use the service. They don't want their kids in public school, let alone in government run baby storage.

Yes, I wonder how many people who don't drive are thinking, 'why in the Sam hell am I paying for someone else to use roads?'

It's not a radical idea to extend public schooling or subsidize child care for working parents. Particularly single parents without family to help. The right wing can't just complain about welfare incessantly and call all recipients free loaders who don't want to work and then refuse to see how helping with child care expenses enables people to work. The vast majority of people want to be employed, better their life, do well for their children, etc. Add this to the resistance to raising minimum wage to a rate that would even begin to cover child care costs and you wonder whether right wingers even want people to succeed. Some family values...

Well, it's that or Trump deciding he has "too little" and everyone else has "too much", both in terms of power and money, and therefore federal government has the Constitutional authority to crown him (and future Presidents) King and collect even more money into his coffers. Pick your poison.

And while you do that try to think about their policies on environment, education, and various consumer protections via FDA, consumer protection agency, etc.

Bernie is going to raise the minimum wage to $15.

More free money to people.

Employers don't have to pay for enough, as it is?

Marriage (or even cohabitation) does that too - one works while the other provides childcare.

It does, but no everyone is in that situation. Those who are would naturally keep their child at home. Like I said, this is a program that primarily benefits people on the margins.

Charging working families a car payment a week for child care is a great idea, just like bankrupting them over an unexpected illness. Parents should all just set up GoFundMe pages. May the best page get child care! Yee haw

Believe it or not, but there are more options than Sanders or Trump in a nation of 330M. The idea that we the sheeple must vote for either the "D" or "R" selection offered us is the problem.
