I was just reading posts today and seemed to notice something I never noticed before. Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't. But, for those who lean right or are clearly right, I see a lot of patriotic avatars and I don't remember any patriotic avatars off the top of my head from anyone who leans left or are clearly left. I wasn't talking about screen names but avatars. Does anyone who leans left or are clearly left have a patriotic avatar? Anyone? To me this is some form of subliminal acknowledgement from the left that they would rather complain about our country rather than be proud of it. Anyone care to try to prove me wrong?

There certainly is a good deal of faux-patriotism virtue signalling (where it's not simple projection) going on amongst a certain subset of a type of poster, but that's probably not what OP intended to set out to prove.

Conservatives define patriotism through such shallow gestures, yes. Wave a flag around but fundamentally undermine everything the country stands for, and call yourself a great patriot. *shrug*

Leftists believe patriotism is racist.

Something else I've noticed here is that Conservatives tend to identify themselves as conservative, while more liberals identify as private or other. I have no idea why that it is, but I doubt your nextbto last sentence is the reason.

I think that's why we see more patriotic avatars. It's like the Betsy Ross flag, false-flag operation which tried to stipulate that the BR flag symbolized oppression. People like me react by saying, "No, you are not going to corrupt patriotism in its many forms", and embrace the flag.
It won't be long before flying an American flag, or singing that National Anthem, is a reason to accuse someone of being a "white nationalist".

Yeah, it plays a lot into the generic symbolism and nationalist imagery the far right likes to rely on instead of well articulated thoughts and opinions.

Upstairs threads about forum members usually end really well.

Having a flag or similar in your avatar is not patriotism. Serving your country is. Supporting our troops and veterans is. Working on behalf of our country is. Waving a flag is just trying to look cool. Real patriotism does not need to be noticed by others.

I am left on social issues (except guns). Logician Man has a bald eagle.

I'd like to note, to no one in particular, that my avatar is only rarely and then briefly mistaken for nationalism.

And some hide their leaning behind "undisclosed" and question the patriotism of others.

Oh, so kind of like wearing a flag pin? Remember when Obama didn't wear one, and it was a major scandal, it showed he was unpatriotic. Even though tons of white POTUS candidates hadn't worn one previously, and nobody cared?

Funny how lack of patriotism only applies to certain groups eh? Like four coloured women complaining about the country. Definitely un-patriotic. But Trump complaining about the country? Definitely patriotic.

Damn. SMH.

Maybe there are more than a few members don’t fit neatly into one of the available boxes?

It's telling that you link a worthless "lean" setting in the user profile with patriotism. Clearly you're one of those people who thinks "patriotism means sharing my political beliefs, and no other"

The usual liberal assholes on here love it when foul mouthed Trump hating lesbians drape themselves in American flags while dropping F bombs.

But "ole Bubba" who never bothers anyone, but just happens to live south of the Mason Dixon line........................... is just another white nationalist if he flies one off the back of his GMC Sierra.

Having a patriotic avatar can indicate patriotism but I agree that’s a far cry from saying a patriotic avatar or bumper sticker or or lapel pin is patriotism in and of itself.

Why are you repeating nonsense?

And away we go.

Right? Even ones that start somewhat positive can end up in the crapper pretty quickly once members start disagreeing with members about other members.
