IMO, the battle comes down to which team earns the most EVs in the 7 main Battleground States:

1. Florida 29 2. PA 20 3. MI 16 4. NC 15 5. AZ 11 6. WI 10 7. NH 4.

These 7 states account for 105 EVs.

RE: DEM POTUS Candidates- on 2/3/19, I did a General Political Discussion Thread asking posters to name their ONE, TWO, THREE. I listed 1. Booker 2. Harris 3. Warren.

At this point, I consider a Biden(P)/Harris(VP) ticket the best DEM tandem to beat Trump in 2020.

In terms of who I like individually: 1. Booker 2. Pete 3. Harris.

I plan on voting on who I think can win! The Trump/Pence ticket, again IMO, holds the advantage as long as the U.S economy continues to stay strong and grow. Trump's foray into distinctly racist territory this past week give the DEMs a chance to gain ground!

Too early for me to tell. Biden seems like the safest bet at this point, but the progressives have made their insistence on purity tests very clear, and some of them would sink another election if they don't get their way again in the primary. Russia knows this and will egg them on.

But this means risking nominating someone who is economically too far to the left for voters in the Upper Midwest, where the election will very likely be decided.

I know who I currently want to win, but the progressives might not feel as good as I do about them. So I don't know yet.

Biden hasn’t shown the stamina yet, imo. “Push-ups” aren’t going to help.

I don't think it matters.

I think the deciding factor is going to be the effectiveness of the Russian attack on the 2020 American presidential election.

I just can't see Americans typically reelecting someone as blatantly racist as Trump, I have more faith in them.

Christ, even Trump admitted it happened in 2016:

Trump Admits Russia Helped Him Win, Denies It 20 Minutes Later | Vanity Fair

Before he realized he shouldn't have admitted the truth.

If it wasn't obvious, I'm not sensing Biden is going to be the one to carry us across the finish line. A big part of his current support comes from African-Americans, and I suppose that this is simply an electability argument.

If they sense that enough whites would actually get on board with a more liberal candidate, then they might shift support, too. Sort of like what happened in the 2008 primary, when blacks didn't rally behind Obama initially but began to shift their support over the course of the primary.

At this stage I'm basing my criteria on the ticket that can draw in the independents:

Biden with Warren or Harris.

Your fellow Dems just might blow that electoral map all to hell if they get enough states to go along with that "tie the electoral votes to the popular vote" nonsense.

If these next debates use the Kamala Harris strategy, it’s going to devolve into a food fight. At this point I see a second term, as much as I am opposed to that outcome.

I agree. Biden/Harris seems like the most likely ticket. As weak a candidate as BIden is, I dont see any of the others beating him. BIden will then, of course, nominate a woman as his VP. Harris seems the most likely to me, but there may be bad blood brewing between them so he might just go with Warren. Either way, I think Trump wins. The idea that Biden brings back the white working class midwestern voter is laughable and I dont see either Harris or Warren helping matters

Americans don't want to see a food fight, they want to know how they're going to put food on the table. :)

Yeah, I don't know if Biden could draw out the voters necessary to do it. I think Biden is the best chance for Trump to be re-elected. Not to say that Biden cannot win, but he's uninspiring and has some baggage. Not sure he could keep it up for the entire campaign cycle.

We shall see though.

At this stage I'm basing my criteria on the ticket that can draw in the independents:

Biden with Warren or Harris.

Why would independents vote for that ticket? Particularly with that radical loon Warren on it.

The Dems need to capture the White suburban vote and the Black vote, meaning turnout. Biden/Harris, on paper, seem like the best bet for that.

Why would independents vote for that ticket? Particularly with that radical loon Warren on it.

What makes Warren a radical loon?

Because they're the closest centrists out of the current lot. I'm not confident independents are going to go with Trump for a second go around now that they've seen his loony behavior.

if it's going to be Biden, please put him in a soundproof booth until inauguration day and release his sound bites via AI vocal simulation. however, anyone but Trump. the entire field is preferable.

the safest bet is to get the Obama coalition to show up. i'm not sure what the best way to do that is, though, as Obama was something of a phenomenon. when we're talking about meteoric rises, his is very competitive. he went from "O-who?" to president about as quickly as anyone could hope.

The left needs an "Obama" type of candidate to come out of nowhere. The debates right now seem like a big waste of time. It's gonna be some combination of Biden, Harris, or Warren.

Said Harris, as she launched the first volley of mashed potatoes.......

i don't see someone coming out of left field that we don't already know about, unfortunately. this is part of why i really hate the two party system. it's difficult to fight back against this cult when bumbling Democrats are your only real option.

Her honesty was rewarded with a jump in the primary polls. :)

Now who do you think can win?

I agree. Most people would like to hope that the fact that Trump is a blatant racist will disqualify him in they eyes of enough Americans to prevent re-election.

But like I said, we will have to wait to see what the Russians have in store.
