[W:286] Are US child migrant detainees entitled to soap and beds?

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

After I almost killed them by dragging them through the desert, endangering their lives?

Relieved that someone more responsible was taking over their care?

Nazi Germany!!

New Zombie Hitler!!!!

You feeling OK? It doesn't seem like it.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

How many of these folks are in your living room right now?

Our church has welcomed and sheltered some. You might want to get involved in your own community. Most majorly religions have groups that help out. You could also go to the border and volunteer.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

You never would have guessed because you clearly don't understand what the fallacy in question pertains to.

Who would have guessed?

:)

From wikipedia:
Tu quoque (/tjuːˈkwoʊkwi, tuːˈkwoʊkweɪ/;[1] Latin for "you also"), or the appeal to hypocrisy, is a fallacy that intends to discredit the opponent's argument by asserting the opponent's failure to act consistently in accordance with its conclusion(s)

The latest illiberal outrage porn has arrived,

(...bunch of nonsense about Obama omitted...)

...said no sane or rational person ever.

:donkeyfla

That's what's called a texbook case of a tu quoque fallacy.

More from wikipedia:

It is a fallacy because the moral character or actions of the opponent are generally irrelevant to the logic of the argument.[3] It is often used as a red herring tactic

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

How many of these kids are showering in your bathroom right now?

Be careful how you phrase that.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

Massively stupid post

Wow, you quickly proved me right! Thanks for the seriously lacking response!

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

This is going to be remembered as the most disgusting thing America did in the 21st century and it's only been 19 years.
From your lips to God's ears

Hopefully, this is a bad as it gets.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

The treatment is so bad, you'd almost think they stop dropping in.
It's said that some of these folks are leaving the fire for the frying pan.

What's up in Central America these days anyway?

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

The article is complete bunk. There is no evidence that they have no been giving these things.
if people would have read the article itself it simply wasn't listed on a piece of paper that doesn't mean
they are not getting showers food water and clothing.
if anything it is a clerical oversite.
i will wait for actual evidence of abuse vs stupidity like this.
What is alleged is rightly shocking to your senses.

If it is true that this is just a clerical error, it seems quite odd that the DoJ did not argue this in court.
It would've been a way to end the controversy in one fell swoop.

Instead, the DoJ argued that they were not required give children blankets, showers, soap, and toothpaste.

[Maybe that DoJ team just needs an email from an outside observer such as yourself to let them know to check if it was just a clerical error.]

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

We don't have to "take care of them". it is a policy decision to keep them locked up. We could hire more judges and lawyers to speed their cases through, but your president doesn't have much regard for such things. The cruelty is the point. And while the cruelty isn't proving to be very effective, certain Americans seem to find it gratifying.

That our government can't figure out that soap and toothbrushes are basic necessities in their concentration camps, it really needs to go. It is dehumanizing our population. The evidence is in posts we see here.

The law says we have to take care of them. Im all for changing it to simply keep them out in the first place. If they want soap they can buy it in their own country.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

Still speaking volumes about yourself. How dare she use loaded language to try to defend kids that aren't provided warm meals, clean clothes and a bath.

Why is it you Libbies always forget to mention that these kids are illegal aliens?
Why can't you ever just come clean and discuss things as they are, instead of this selective understanding you display?

The term "concentration camps" is even MORE offensive to even MORE people than something as innocent as calling Joe Biden "boy".

Who on the right is applauding this?

Did you condemn it when Obama did it?

What I am applauding?

You have me confused with someone else, or you're attacking a straw man.

Either way, you're 100% wrong.

:)

2020 will tell who is correct.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

Imagine being such a prick that you can't spare the thought of tax dollars going to basic hygiene for an immigrant child.

Imagine other countries being such pricks that they visit the same consequences in reverse order.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

Yep, 2020 will be a turning point election...America will have to decide whether or not we want to be the world's checkbook, or not...We will have to decide if we want to follow the path that Venezuela is following now...We will have to decide if we want to allow progressives to make Conservatism illegal...Many choices.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

tRump and his administration are a basket of deplorables.

And just wait for it, the tRump apologists are going to do mental gymnastics to defend this. :thumbdown
[emphasis added by bubba for effect]
too bad for them that they don't have much to work with

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

Where was the left's outrage, the anti-Trump brigade's outrage when the same conditions prevailed in Obama's "concentration camps"?
Do you really think all this withholding from children just started now? Oh but Trump is so mean!

Asking these two questions does not mean I think any child should be living in unsanitary conditions. No soap, no tooth brushes, the bare necessities should be given to all no matter if their stay is one day to 20 days.

But damn, don't tell me Trump's foes aren't politicizing and exploiting the welfare of these children for their own agendas!

Can you point us to the headline where it says obama administration withholds soap and toothbrushes from detainees?

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

Last time when Democrats and Republicans found some common ground but Trump did not get exactly what he wanted, he decided to declare a national emergency. Are we now entering a new phase of moral degeneration where Trump will use the conditions inside the detention centers as bargaining chip?

Yup...he will.
You'll scream "FOUL". I'll giggle.

Ur being 'had'.

Re: Government argues that child migrant detainees are not entitled to soap and beds

I know right, imagine criticizing the persecution of brown skinned people in Concentration Camps. I'll bet these Trump supporters, these "very fine people" as Trump likes to call them, are pissed right off!

What utter horse ****.

Read the Flores agreement which has been effect since 1997. The agreement requires youth be held in “safe and sanitary” facilities, which should include basic hygiene items and sufficient food and water. Do you really delude yourself into believing inhumane conditions only exist under the Trump administration?

Wake up Trump haters! Stop with the double standard born of your own partisanship and hold your own to the same standard as you do this president. Lack of accountability in migrant detention centers started long before the election of Trump.

The National Immigrant Justice Center’s (NIJC’s) three-year Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation resulted in 2015 in the most comprehensive public release to date of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immigration detention center contracts and inspections. The thousands of pages of documents provide an unprecedented look into a failed system that lacks accountability, shields DHS from public scrutiny, and allows local governments and private prison companies to brazenly maximize profits at the expense of basic human rights.

It doesn't matter if they are illegal aliens. That doesn't make it ok to not give them clean clothes.

Are you honestly arguing that it's ok to put illegal immigrant children in a facility for 25 days without warm meals, clean clothes and showers? is that your position?
