Actually Poland held out longer than France and their military never surrendered and went on to form the largest resistance movement in occupied Europe, this professor is a joke. The equation of being opposed to the invasion of Europe by an alien people who are overwhelming antiSemitic to the holocaust is disgusting.

Sorry. I'm sure there were lots of brave Poles who risked everything to save Jews from the Nazis. However, anti-Semitism was very strong in Poland prior to World War II and the Nazis didn't have to work very hard to get Polish cooperation.

That's true. There was a lot of animosity toward Jews in France, too. Some Catholics, especially, saw them as the people who killed Jesus, and many Europeans resented them for other reasons. That makes what some Europeans did to help Jews, at the risk of their own lives, all the more admirable.

I once heard the story of a Dutch woman who was hiding some Jews in the cellar of her farmhouse on the outskirts of town. Like everyone in that town, she knew the postman was collaborating with the Germans. One day, while he was there delivering the mail, one of the Jews made some slight noise. The woman, who had greeted the postman and was standing next to him, noticed that as soon as this happened his manner changed. He chatted on and on, much more than usual, and seemed not to want to leave.

The woman realized the man had caught on to what she was doing, and that if he left, he would go straight to the Germans. Knowing that would mean death for both herself and the Jews, she quickly thought of a plan. She had a pistol in another room, so she told the postman that in all their chatting, she'd almost forgotten that she had a parcel she'd meant to give him. She excused herself, came back with some facsimile of a parcel under her arm, and before the man could look at it too closely, pulled the pistol from her coat pocket and shot him dead. She then ran to a neighbor, and with his help they put the body in a wheelbarrow, took it into the woods, and buried it. It all worked out--no one connected her with the man's disappearance, and the Jews she was harboring got away safe.

3 million Jews in Poland died.

From those numbers alone he has a pretty good chance to be right.

Thats the official government line, but one thing I learned in college studying the Holocaust was that the Germans couldn't have killed 6 million Jews by themselves. They had plenty of help from the people who lived in the conquered territories. People dont like to hear the ugly truth, but there's a reason why its called the truth.

Actually, my mother's side of the family were Polish Jews who left Poland and came to America prior to WW2 and The Holocaust. A primary reason was because of the terrible ways they were treated by non Jews in the area. Anti-Semitism was a huge problem in Europe as well as many areas in that time, and still is. One of the main reasons Israel exists today is because after the war none of the nations wanted to bring so many Jews into their own country.

German troops suffered 50,000 casualties(killed, wounded and missing) just in the invasion of Poland in 1939 alone. Another 25,000 were casualties(again, killed, wounded and missing or captured) in the Warsaw Uprising.

A Polish Home Army guy went into a ****ing death camp to help the Jews. A unit known as the National Security Corps fought inside the Warsaw Ghetto with the Jewish resistance when the Germans decided to liquidate the ghetto. Home Army troops repeatedly shot at German sentries and guard posts on the outskirts of the ghetto and repeatedly attempted to blow up German strongpoints as well.

There are more than 6,000 Polish citizens who are among the Righteous Among the Nations. That's a quarter of the entire group.

There were undoubtedly some Polish resistance groups which didn't like the Jews---but when one country supplies a full quarter of the Righteous among Nations, claiming that the country was more interested in killing Jews than Nazis is a shaky claim at best.
