Judge threatens Trump with jail for court violations: 'I have a job to do'

The judge should not and must not consider political factors.

Cohen has agreed to stop posting about Trump but if you think of the purpose of a gag order in this case it is to protect against intimidation or threats. Cohen intimidating or threatening Trump is a bit of a stretch to say the least.
The thing is, there is no one Cohen can intimidate. Trump is the only known possible witness for the defense. Cohen is not on trial. He has no reason to intimidate the jury.

That's hysterical. The entire case is about politics. A misdemeanor case at best was elevated to a felony and tried in a district that is extremely anti-Trump to stop Trump from winning the election.

He needs to assign him jail time on the next occurrence. 4/88 can start serving it when the jury goes into deliberations.
Why can't he serve it on Wednesdays and weekends? It won't delay the trial at all. Trump's lawyers can see him in jail.

He can influence the jury.

Right, in a blatant effort to get him to stop campaigning. I think it would do more harm (for democrats) than good. But it wouldn't be the first time they shot themselves in the foot.

The only special treatment that Trump has gotten is that he's there in the first place.
Are you even listening to the testimony? Every day more proof comes out that he's guilty. How can you with a straight face sit here and tell us this trial is fake trumped-up charges?

Well that's a perspective.

I can assure you that Trump's campaigning is not getting him any votes he didn't already have.

Guilty of what crime? He's guilty of paying a adult actress to be quite. If only that was a crime.

He could, but that would likely be a grounds of appeal in terms of influencing the jury. Waiting until the court part of the trial is over to have him serve changes that.

Thanks for admitting you're not interested in the details or facts of the case. Your interest is only in defending Trump at all costs. Facts be damned. Texts, documents, emails, testimony all pointing to Trump's guilt, and all we get from you is; Trump committed no crimes. Amazing.

No point in continuing this conversation.

Then why didn't he just pay her? Instead of this convoluted shell company game of payments and triple reimbursements that were labeled falsely?

Two tiered justice system in the mind of right wingers: Trump is a victim and there is one set of rules for Dems and one set of rules for Trump

Two tiered justice system in reality: any of us working class stiffs would have already been jailed for threatening the judge and his family or violating the gag order in an attempt to poison the jury pool

Throwing him in jail will back fire as many of these indictments have. Speaking of no one is above the law why hasn't Cohen been given a gag order?
these indictments aren't backfiring....this was the weakest case and it is clear as water what he did that was a crime....

I haven't heard anything political in those testimonies.

Do you think Trump wants to go to jail? Can he successfully sell it as an unjust persecution? Imagine the headlines. Fox News would be on overdrive saying that the Biden Gestapo had arrested the opposition.
The Biden Gestapo or their operatives have already affected the arrest of President Trump. The latest show trial is already underway.

Right but taking him into custody would set off alarm bells on Fox

Has zero to do with politics. 100% due to criminal behavior...which is on full display here in the court room. For once in his miserable deplorable life he's facing the music.

The thing is, Trump is being held to a stricter standard - he's not getting "more leniency." People have a constitutional right to say that the trial is unfair, and to say that the jury was picked from an area that is mostly Democrat. It literally WAS picked from a mostly democrat area.
Saying the truth is against Merchan's rule of law. Can't have that.
And he has a constitutional right to call into question the integrity and legitimacy of the proceedings. And, the suggestion that if he says the trial is unfair and the jury was picked from mostly democrat area is somehow threatening the "safety" of jurors and their loved ones, well, that's plainly bullshit. Trump didn't say anything that was threatening or raises any safety concern. This is clearly an over-the-top gag order. The judge says it's to keep Trump from intimidating witnesses, but there was no evidence that Trump would be doing so. If the Judge's logic holds, then any judge can issue any gag order under the same rubric, whether there is a real concern or not.
Damn right!
And the article you posted is in the propaganda camp - in reality, Hope Hicks' testimony was bad for the prosecution. She layed our that Trump's motivation for keeping stories under wraps was to keep his wife and family from finding out - she even testified about how he didn't want Melania to see news reports because it upset her. So, that strikes against the notion that Trump's intent was solely to influence the election.

Well said! The public, if anything, should be calling into question why Judge Merchan is creating all the unnecessary drama with his lies. Trump hasn't violated any gag order.

judge even realizes it, he pointed out to Trump that he doesn't want to put him in jail, but if he does it again, he will. So, I am literally hoping that Trump doubles down so he finds out what a few days in jail is like.
Yeah he would get a preview of what he'll be living in in the not too distant future.
