When the Hood Falls Off in Public

So you are hinting that is was actually poor people and not just white people?

There was a time when the Irish were not included in what was looked at as part of white society. Ditto for lots of other groups including Italians. And tones of poor Irish and Italians came here and made the country better for their contribution.

I cant help but notice you list even a single characteristic of those who advocate liberty have in common with fascists. Was that an oversight on your part? Or were you just lying when you made the claim.

I did not realize that was the topic the thread. But lots and lots of right libertarians here seem to side with the wanna-be authoritarian Trump and approve heartily of his policies and statements. They show their true colors flying proudly on that authoritarian side.

What is the nexus between right libertarianism and fascism?

Which will radically change the nature of what immigration is and what America is.

How so?

Because given how lax the policy is, there should be no real issue here. Unless someone can do nothing, but remain on government assistance.

Hmm it appears that I have some memory problems.... can you please remind me when the poem was written?

Seeing as it's not pertinent to the discussion at hand, I don't care to look it up.

Though that doesn't stop you so go ahead, and have at it.

Lots of people stand on their own two feet. They come here for a better life, not to be on the dole, but to be successful.
Those people are from all over the world. They are thankful to be given a chance. They want to work hard, they want to better themselves. They are of all colors and shades and ethnic backgrounds.
May be some of them need a helping hand, and that is ok with me. I think the rule not to become dependent on welfare is a long established one for foreigners. Not sure when we started looking the other way. Not sure when we started making handouts and disregard for our laws a priority. My guess is it has to do with partisans wanting to stay in power (both sides).
So lets look in this "HOOD" grandstanding.
Any and all excuses for votes, for power. Right?
But, who are the racists? The ones who assume that the less prosperous are the brown people, the black people?
Who are the tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the homeless?
All are welcome. Black, brown, white.
Nowhere in TNC does it mention "beware of the HOODS" or "disregard our rule of law".
But talking about legal entry doesn't make much of a partisan fanfare.
Talking about people instead of skin color doesn't signal virtue.

Of course some people see through the nonsense and are disgusted, with both sides.

I have no issue with someone needing a hand up, but staying where you are, and feeding from that same hand for years is another problem all together.

That indeed is the main purpose of this change. To discourage the poor and increase white immigration.

You do realize, that you're dangerously close to saying only white immigrants can manage to pass this bar, don't you?

There are smart and able people of all ethnicities. The sad fact is that America has also appealed to the most needy as the beacon of opportunity attracting the poor and unskilled. My four grandparents from Poland fit into this category a little over a century ago and this nation welcomed them despite their very limited pocketbooks - if they even had one.

Can you imagine what would happen to the USA if we let people come here for economic reasons? Where would we be today if we had allowed that type of thing in the past encouraging poor people to immigrate here?

Cut the bull****. You support illegal aliens getting into this country scotfree. Not to mention the fact that we have a 1 million LEGAL immigrant/year quota now, which is higher than what it use to be. Immigration has been a hot topic of over a hundred years, but I've never seen a fervor by a political party like I've seen Democrats for the last 20 years. There's a definite political agenda. So 12 million back in the day over a 60 year period, but a million per year isn't good enough for you now.

January 1892: Ellis Island, the United States’ first immigration station, opens in New York Harbor. The first immigrant processed is Annie Moore, a teenager from County Cork in Ireland. More than 12 million immigrants would enter the United States through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954.

That's what I thought. You understood my point so you dismiss it because it doesn't fit your narrative.

If you want to pretend that it's relevant, then do so. Even supply the information yourself and try to show how it's relevant.

Then try and return to the discussion at hand, when you're done attempting to derail it.

The point is pretty easy to understand. When the poem was written, how many black people were there in Europe at that time? I know you understand the point. It's easy.

Not as many as there are now.

The fact that their poor & unskilled before they get here is not the issue. It's that they continue to be as such after arriving, or even living here for years.

This is to enforce the notion that someone shouldn't live off of government assistance.

The change in the rules changes what America and immigration means to it. This is another strong push to the radical right.

Because as it stands, the policy will only affect those who cannot get themselves off of government assistance within almost an entire year. Now if this was to dictate that they couldn't actually go on government assistance, that would be a case for calling it radical.

Because as of now, it's something that even Obama would've agreed to when he was first running for president, and possibly even after he was well within his first term.

There is no time limit on a person struggling to make it. Fields of education sometimes take years before any income is really seen. It might take years for a person to get established in business or a trade - if they are fortunate enough to have one.

Then I would suggest that they get a job, and support themselves in the meantime.
