Trump Derangement Syndrome - Is It Real?

Political commentator Justin Raimondo wrote to the LA Times:

"[TDS] sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting of hyperbole leading to a constant state of hysteria… the afflicted lose touch with reality."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell:

"To call a public servant like the attorney general [Bill Barr] a liar is completely over the top. These people are somewhat suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome."

CNN's Chris Cillizza re-defines TDS to fit the left's agenda:

"The truth is that TDS is just the preferred nomenclature of Trump defenders who view those who oppose him and his policies as nothing more than blind hatred."

Is "Trump Derangement Syndrome" a Real Mental Condition? | Psychology Today

Any opposition or difference of opinion concerning trump is TDS to the right. Remember back to watergate, Nixon was saying all the same things trump is saying, the press is the enemy and after a year of investigating nothing has been found, time to move on. Well we all now know just how wrong Nixon was and eventually we'll find out just how wrong the right is about TDS.

It seems that the blind hatred of President Trump creates the same sort of syndrome. I think some honestly mentally block out any evidence contrary to the themes they desperately want to be true just as we all resist seeing anything good in those we hate. But TDS seems to go a second and third mile into intellectual dishonesty to the point that they will use the most vile and hateful characterizations of the President and anybody who supports him.

This whole 'blind hatred' nonsense is a deflection: gaslighting at its cheapest, least convincing and most obvious. We all know why we dislike Trump.

The hole in that argument is that people can point to specific facts: words, actions, policies; lies, high crimes and misdemeanors for which there is plenty of evidence to back it up. They have reasons to dislike Trump - as I am sure some on the right had their reasons to disagree with Clinton or Obama. He's attempting to do immoral, cruel and inhumane things, mostly in the name of his own ego. That sir, is not 'blind hatred'. Opposition to Trump has a point to it.

It has been bad in the past. But I have never seen the degree of pure malicious, unmitigated, and retaliatory hate demonstrated in the most irrational manner as I have seen directed at this President and anybody who presumes to support him in any manner.

True. If Trump says, "Water is good for you", and you happen to agree, you're
automatically a Trumpkin, conspiring to poison all the air and water everywhere. Why, you and all the other Nazis should be rounded up and eliminated.

It's an amazing thing to witness. I kinda enjoy it. It makes me feel sane and completely rational, and that isn't easy.

Yep, he is not cool, calm and collected like Maxine Waters is.

Sadly, Trump is President. Waters is nowhere near that office. False equivalency.

At least Trump is term limited. BTW, the comment was directed toward a post about McConnell.

What an odd thing for a Collusion Truther to say.

It’s a nice try mate, a very nice try and sweet you want to for the sake of a real birther and fellow Trump fluffer, say that, I’m sure Mycroft appreciates it.

It makes me sad. So many people I have enjoyed reading or hearing their point of view and so many I have enjoyed sparring with and or exchanging differing points of view over the years have gone over to the dark side with the nastiest and most hateful characterizations of anybody who doesn't think like they do and/or agree with them. Politics of personal destruction and character assassination is the #1 hallmark of TDS. And a lot of folks I didn't think would ever succumb to it have done just that.

:rofl

The only thing that makes you sad is that the majority of Americans do not drink the Trump Kool-Aid. Gallup | Presidential Approval Ratings -- Donald Trump

In no month of any year (2017/2018/2019) has Donald Trumps Approval Rating exceeded his Disapproval Rating. Not once.

He is tied for last place with Jimmy Carter with a 40 average in April of the third year.

I would definitely agree that Mitch McConnell has TDS. A really bad case of somebody who is deranged by Trump and has clearly lost his ability to reason and do his job. But to be fair to him, that also applies to the vast vast majority of Republicans in the Congress.

Mitch was broken as all hell even before Trump. The dude was always a piece of *****

The interesting thing here is you fail to mention that this escalation is in part due to the same tactic used by Trump during and throughout his campaign and presidency. You will always have people who react adversely to politicians who are diametrically opposed to their ideology, but one big difference here is Trump made it a point to use demeaning names for his opponents as well as making personal insults. So the counter to that tactic is part of what's fueling the level of reaction toward him. I often wonder what would have happened to the anti-Obama folks had Obama conducted himself the same way Trump has.

I have often wished Trump wouldn't use the mildly insulting nicknames/characterizations he comes up with for his political opponents. They are sometimes really funny, i.e. 'Rocket Man" for Kim and such, but sometimes they are off putting, at least to me. But whatever, these are extremely mild compared to how most of his opposition publicly characterize him, and he does not use the viciously hateful, ugly, malicious rhetoric that the left afflicted with TDS uses to describe him and pretty much anybody who supports him again and again and again. Obama was just as insulting and pointed in his criticism of his political opposition or those he disapproved of, but he just used more measured language to express that. To listen to Obama's supporters though, the right was far more vicious toward Obama than anything they throw at Trump and/or his supporters.

There simply is no way to describe the unmitigated, unrestrained, and purely hateful words, characterizations, descriptions, accusations thrown at President Trump other than some kind of emotionally deranged syndrome shortened to TDS.

I think you're being generous in your description of the language Trump has used over the years in both his political and private careers. His generalizations of different groups has been pretty absurd, and his juvenile responses show he is not able to rise above the tactics his opponents use against him. To have the leader of a major world power use a childish nicknames to refer to other world leaders is a step down, and as a leader he should be looking to raise the bar instead of lowering it. I don't fault Trump for being critical of others, but how that's expressed matters and he often chooses the low road.

While I don't support the views of people who only focus on reacting to him, I do understand where the animus comes from; it's just a very basic reaction to the energy Trump exudes. He has always been confrontational and crass, and on the national stage that's going to invite the same (or stronger) response from others. He routinely refers to people as "losers" or "dumb", so are you suggesting people will not respond in kind?

Yes, it’s pretty obvious that Trump is deranged. Symptoms abound: seeing Muslims in the caravan, 3 million illegal votes, Muslims celebrating 9/11 in Jersey, greatest electoral college victory since Reagan, “I am the first, the only president to do... “

Calling Bill Barr a liar is over the top, but calling Comey and Muller something similar is not?

Derangement of McConnell is confirmed, just not sure of what type

Not many have called Mueller a liar, overzealous but not a liar. Comey was caught red handed lying about his press contacts. He is a liar.

Yes, but what of Bill Barr being a liar?

I do understand that people react negatively to him. I do myself at times when he strikes me as being overly petulant or petty and sometimes unhelpful in his remarks. But the pure hatred, malicious and unreasonable as well as unethical rhetoric leveled toward him and anybody who defends him in anything by the more vitriolic left is way over the top and beyond any normal response to anything he has done or said.

TDS is absolutely real and I think it is one of President Trumps biggest assets. He has the ability to trigger the left, causing them to act out, and making them more and more objectionable to Rural America. I am convinced he does it on purpose and it is effective. He continues to push them further and further left.

I know of a lot that would call for his head :/.

Thank you for admitting that has been your goal the entire time. I wish more trumpists were honest.

Trump deserves every bit of it as he did with his predecessor and continues to do with others. Ive known of several trump supporters that wanted this vitriol so i decided long ago hey im gonna give em what they wanted but somethings gotta give.

Fox news has been trying to dig up mueller’s past to concoct a retaliatory investigation. They may fail just as hard as Jacob Wohl (dont know how the hell that crazy kiddo stays out of jail) but yes when it is convenient lots of republicans in the house called him a liar.

Yup. But the fact that Trump won in 2016 stuck in their craw so badly that the left have completely lost their marbles.

It's more that he has continued his irresponsible behaviour, lazy governing, mismanagement, corruption, bigotry and juvenile propensities in office that sticks in craws.

To those obsessed with 'wins' and 'losses' it must indeed look like the mere fact of Trump winning the election is the sole cause of all the negative publicity he has had since - if they choose not to look any further. To an objective mind however, it is obvious that his policies and his conduct - both personal and professional - have continued to be abhorrent to the majority of Americans and indeed have gotten measurably worse: he has gone from being a suspected crook to a known one; from merely discriminatory talk about migrants to taking draconian action; from threatening to tear up treaties to the brink of hostilities. His lies have actually increased exponentially to the point where he makes a falsehood a minute in any given speech.

'Just because he won' is a 10th grader's deflection from the actual issues.
