(CNN) — Samantha Josephson decided to call an Uber around 2 a.m. Friday after being separated from her roommates during a night out in Columbia, South Carolina, police said Saturday.
The 21-year-old University of South Carolina senior hopped into a black Chevy Impala, thinking it was her ride, Columbia Police Chief W.H. "Skip" Holbrook said during a news conference.
About 14 hours later, turkey hunters found her body in a field 90 miles from Columbia, he said.
"What we know now is that she had, in fact, summoned an Uber ride and was waiting for that Uber ride to come," Holbrook said, citing surveillance footage. "We believe that she simply mistakenly got into this particular car thinking it was an Uber ride."

That's a loaded question, because until recently the white population of the USA ranged between 70-85%. In 1976, when serial killers were white, the population of the USA was 86% white. Fudging a narrative by leaving out key data does not make for a cogent argument.

At the very least, a customer ought to get an early notification before his car arrives, which should have a photo and identifying info of both the car and the driver. IMHO, anyway.

It sounds like many of you have never taken an Uber. Car type, picture, and license plate are texted to the rider before the care arrives. You can also ask the driver who he is picking up before you get in the car.

You're right, I've never had reason to use Uber so TY for the info. She should have used the info available to avoid this kind of thing.

...also you can track the location of your driver's car, right up to and including the point when you're notified your driver has arrived, on the map via GPS.

Race is not a factor in every crime that involves a person of color. In hate crimes it's a fair accusation. In the usual rape, robbery or murder, not necessarily so.
