Peace is not the goal. Justice is the goal. Fights need to happen sometimes. In fact, I think one of the single biggest problems we're having in this country is caused by the fact that among friends and family members we do not have enough political arguments. People don't want to reck a party or a family dinner with it. I get that, but what happens instead is we retreat into our respective bubbles were we have confidence everyone will agree with us.

Toothless? Maybe not, but yeah sorry it's mostly ignorant rednecks.

Sorry, but Donald Trump's entire campaign was based on personally attacking people, and spreading racism and hate towards marginalized groups. You don't get to nominate him one day, and then turn around the next and ask people to be nice to you. When Trump was nominated the gloves came off. There's not compromising anymore. These **** heads need to be crushed once and for all. There is no saving the Republican party anymore. It's a lost cause that needs to go the way of the dodo. The Democratic Party and the Libertarian Party are the only two viable political parties in the country at this point, and there will be no peace in this country so long as Republicans are in power.

What, not going to call him an evil Nazi for voting Trump?

It's not your politics that make you deserving of scorn, it's your lies and unwillingness to be reasonable. Those things are optional, entirely within your control, and bad.

Bad, like unethical, immoral bad. Being a republican is not immoral. Liking Trump and supporting him is not immoral.

But when you lie to defend him...when you use irrational arguments, deny logic, etc., these are bad behaviors. On work matters, I've always understood that to be a fire-able offense. Immediate termination if you're caught doing that on work matters intentionally. Lying under oath or to the FBI, is a crime...ever wonder why? I mean, if you tell a doctor to do treatment X, and they do treatment Y for no reason, is that not bad? Same thing, just less important.

So should we look the other way as people deny reality on matters of national importance? The busy or uninterested of us ignore it, sure. Some have an overdeveloped sense of justice and want to do *something*.
Shame you verbally? That's an option.
Correct you and show you why you're wrong, and only shame you if you deny common sense? Even better.

So if you find yourself constantly corrected by rational people for all the lies and nonsense you spew, to further your own agenda...consider correcting your bad behavior, to make all the "mean people" go away.

Will you make a promise to yourself to stop PERPETUATING the political hate, and instead work to TERMINATE it.
I see we are on a downward spiral with the partisanship and blame.
I see lots of venom being spit back and forth, and each side says the other needs to stop first.

Rather than wait for someone else to take action and be civil, will you make a commitment to stop your own actions in this arena?
If you wait for someone else to be civil, you may never see it and you have no control over them anyway.
You DO have control over yourself.
What say you?

Trump voters are not toothless Bubbas.
Democrats do not have pointy tails.

1. YES...I will do my personal best to curb and angry and hateful speech I may do, and try and stop it before it reaches my keyboard. When someone else uses it against me, I will disengage and walk away. This is the internet after all and some type things merely for a reaction. I will not react.

2. NO... the other side is a bunch of soulless demons and are not deserving of any respect, politeness, courtesy, or even human decency afforded a stranger. They started it, and it is all their fault. I will PERPETUATE it because my side is right and they are wrong.

3. I choose to hide behind the bar until the brawl is over.

I am curious why you would call for calmness, civility, respect, politeness, and courtesy while publicly supporting people who teach and spread hate. Not that I disagree with your idea, but it seems like you are ok with hate filled people but only if they agree with your politics. It would seem that you only want opponents to practice restraint while enabling others to utilize it.

This. It's set up with a premise to stop the hate then in the second post tries to put people on defense.

Probably one or two trolls said he's a racist because he thinks all lives matter and tries to paint it out that it an actual and rational feeling most people on the other side of him feel because of his stance.

I think most of us do civilly debate here but it's the ones that just want to have fun that try and ruin it for everyone.

I have to admit that I am here mostly for entertainment. I don't think that I will change many minds. After being here for a little while, I have mellowed to those posts that triggered me to an immediate and infractible response. I will debate on a topic that I have some experience in and avoid those that are just slugfests (abortion, guns, religion etc. There are posters that I avoid intentionally and those that I engage with because of their reasonable posting history as far as I have encountered.....I have become a better speller and use better grammar, I also try to have back-up to any positions that I take and check my sources for veracity......too many are too serious here and need to "lighten up, Francis."

Okay - I will play at this game even though it is not totally honestly set up and framed .......

I said NO -

I view Trump and the tea party right wing movement as a serious threat to the very existence of the USA as we know it and the democratic political institutions that are its very underpinnings. So I will oppose Trump and trumps and right wing know nothingism at every opportunity and not apologize for it.

Ahh yes, another supporter of Communism and the American Bolsheviks.

MY RATIONAL:

I have not even been a member even one year yet but already I have been told....

I am a threat to one woman's children because I voted for Trump.

I can not wait to go out and murder people "with impunity" because I am a gun owner.

I am a racist and a horrible person because I believe ALL LIVES matter.

To quote Ten Years After..." Tell me, where is the sanity "?

Are we in a downward spiral when it comes to merely disagreeing?
has disagreeing with someone now a lost art?
Do we not have the ability to merely talk with each other about differing matters without it becoming a personal bar room brawl?

I believe it was Samuel Clemons who once said..." The United States is one for the few places in the world where an ordinary person can stand in the town square and cuss the president. The president can either cuss back or go fishing ".

Let's all learn how to go fishing again, shall we?

I voted NO; why? I will tell you why.
The American people spoke in November, 2016, and below is what they told me & the rest of America when they voted for Trump.

I am a white American and me & my family used to be secure here in America.
I am tired of other people that don't look like me & people that don't talk like me, coming to America taking our jobs, working for le$$.
I am tired of other nations that Trump tells us are taking advantage of trade agreements, flooding our nation with cheaper products, even though we want cheaper goods.
I am tired of the immigrants, the blacks, the homosexuals, the Muslims, the brown people, I'm tired of everyone that aint white.
I am tired of the liberals that have ****ed up America because they are more educated; we need a leader with common sense, not a leader that is smart.
I am white, and I am pissed off and angry, and Trump is the only candidate that is looking out for white Americans; we are mad, pissed, and angry.
We need Trump because he is just as mad, pissed, and angry as we are.

Well, there you are; that is what got Trump into office & I for one will tell everyone of those white, pissed off, bigoted, afraid, homophobic, insecure, xenophobic, entitled assholes to go **** off.

Yep; I voted NO .................

Why only 2016? Is it possible they have a good reason? Hate motivated by ignorance, racism, xenophobia, sexism or religious extremism is not the same as hate motivated by the fact that someone is trying to hurt you. One is justified. The other is not. Donald Trump wants to turn this country into a fascist authoritarian dictatorship. If you're supporting that, then we have every right to be pissed of at you for it even if you are incapable of realizing what you're doing.

Your opinion does not make what you are saying factual.

Nope, because one side actually has reasons for the hate of complete dishonest idiots, racists and greedy people. There is no redeeming qualities of Trump what so ever, anybody who still supports him are either racists, complete idiots, or greedy and just want tax breaks, who cares if the country gets forked even more in the process. I make no apologies of that, Trump supporters can't defend their position with facts, logic and reasoning, so they are not the same as most liberals that do

Stop pretending both sides are equal. I'm sick of that crap. One side has facts, logic and reasoning, the other side has nothing but rhetoric, lies and deflections

Are you related to Hillary? She wonders why she lost too. :peace

What do you do when all the candidates are liars, sneaky, underhanded, and clearly will say anything to get elected then do whatever their rich and powerful masters who own them wants.

Will you make a promise to yourself to stop PERPETUATING the political hate, and instead work to TERMINATE it.

Well, you tried.

Ahh yes, another supporter of Communism and the American Bolsheviks.

I can make a more constructive contribution than validating you, which is what the OP is seeking.

Lying, habitually and seemingly for the sake of it. Willful and unabashed hypocrisy. Almost nothing accomplished for the common good,
predictably, quite the opposite. Veneration of the wealthiest and most powerful, scape goating, demonizing, resenting the poorest and least
powerful.

These are alien attributes and accomplishments, to me, and they seem to have no bounds, no association with ethics or empathy.

Andrew McCabe, a Target of Trump’s F.B.I. Scorn, Is Fired Over Candor Questions
By MATT APUZZO and ADAM GOLDMAN MARCH 16, 2018
WASHINGTON — Andrew G. McCabe, the former F.B.I. deputy director and a
frequent target of President Trump’s scorn, was fired Friday after the Justice
Department rejected an appeal that would have let him retire this weekend.
Mr. McCabe promptly declared that his firing, and Mr. Trump’s persistent
needling, were intended to undermine the special counsel’s investigation in which he
is a potential witness.
Mr. McCabe is accused in a yet-to-be-released internal report of failing to be
forthcoming about a conversation he authorized between F.B.I. officials and a
journalist.
In an interview, Mr. McCabe was blunt. “The idea that I was dishonest is just
wrong,” he said, adding, “This is part of an effort to discredit me as a witness.”
F.B.I. disciplinary officials recommended his dismissal. Mr. McCabe, who
stepped down in January and took a leave of absence, denied the accusation and
appealed this week to senior career officials in the Justice Department.
Lack of candor is a fireable offense at the F.B.I., but Mr. McCabe’s last-minute
dismissal was carried out against a highly politicized backdrop......

It is the mendacity. The OP wears mendacious politics like a badge of honor. It is overwhelming and has persisted at least since NIxon. Politics with little or no redeeming qualities.....pursuit of power for the sake of it without altruistic inclination.

Arthurdale seems an example of the divide....good intentions on the one side, Mrs. Roosevelt expending political capital on people
incapable as it turned out, of acting in their own best interests. By summer, 1980, Reagan's first post nomination stop was in
Neshoba County and Trump's announcement was from the top of the elevator...."They aren't sending us their best people...":

Festival celebrates Franklin Roosevelt's first New Deal community in W.Va. | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

.....Native West Virginians were preferred, and "you had to be a married couple with children and be happy together," she said.

But the list also reflected the prejudices of the era: Although Arthurdale was inspired by Mrs. Roosevelt's horror at the poverty and lack of hope she saw when she visited the multi-racial mining town of Scotts Run, W.Va., no blacks were permitted in Arthurdale.

"Racial attitudes of the era dictated that the community include only white homeowners," an information plaque in the Arthurdale Museum reads in part. "That stipulation allayed prejudices and eliminated the need for segregated schools as required by the West Virginia Constitution. However, it also kept Scotts Run's African-Americans from participating in the Arthurdale experiment."......

I actually practice much more restraint than I would if you were not abused as children, but you are taking your damage out on the rest of us.

First realize the sentiment you just wrote is just a rationalization for being either lazy, unconfirmed, or immoral. And please do not take that personally, I mean that as a general concept...all humans have those qualities, and express them at one time or another, in different proportion.

Second, notice that you appear to be claiming to have a form of omniscience, that "it is known" that all candidates are liars, etc. That's just a technical knock, more important is above.

Lastly, you appear to be doing the old "throw the baby out with the bath water". Or as is trendy to say today, false equivalency. Anyone that has lied, is a lair. Since every has lied, everyone is a liar, and it's therefore moot. Therefore, just vote for how inspires you or gets the job done, because everyone is a liar. Right?

Wrong. Reality functions largely in a far more nuanced way. Degree. Quality. Frequency.
Someone who stole a candy bar once, and never again <- a thief?
Someone who steals a single candy bar every time they go to the store < - a thief?
someone who steals thousands of dollars worth of goods every time they go to the store , <- a thief?

In the real world, you and I both know that the difference between those three is night and day. You can say all are thieves, and therefore (they all are bad or should be treated the same), but no one would take you seriously. Our legal system, doesn't do that. Parents do not do that. Bosses do not measure that way. No one reasonable, measures that way.

So why are you suggesting we judge that way? Because of something else you have not revealed to us, or maybe have not faced about yourself as of yet.

I say this with all sincerity. No matter your background or lot in life, if you're of sound mind, you can differentiate true from false as good as anyone. You can find errors in a PhD's work, or a 20 year surgeon's remarks....or anything in between. You have to accept that fact, to begin figuring out what's right and what's not. At some point, you get pretty decent at it...not saying you'd be perfect by any stretch...but just that it's not all that hard with a little practice and time/effort.

This last election I had a choice between 2 people who lied to the people. I picked Trump because at least I knew what he was thinking at the time. The other was the magician showing you the shells but deceiving you at every turn.

Likely an accurate statement whether you realize it or not.

Sounds like a straw man you're making up. You may not want to murder, but you are complicit in it.

Absolutely the truth.

Everyone is entitled to their own Opinion, but what people like you need to learn is that there is a difference between an opinion and a logical conclusion. An opinion is generally just a preference or judgment. It's something like "Red is my favorite color," "I like Pizza." We can agree to disagree on things like that.

But when you say something like... "Tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires are an excellent way to create jobs" you're not expressing an opinion. That's a logical conclusion, and we can use facts, math, data, science, and logic to demonstrate why it's a ****ing stupid conclusion that cannot be supported by evidence. Logical conclusions can be judged as better or worse, valid or invalid, rational or irrational, and sometimes even right and wrong.

Let me try and put it in these terms for you. If you and I were having a discussion about who's the best quarterback in the NFL. I might say it's Aaron Rodgers, and you might say it's Tom Brady, and we could agree to disagree just fine. There are some people who would even try to argue that it's Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, or Russel Wilson and we might entertain that argument.

But if you were the head coach or GM of a football team, and you decided to sign Johnny Manziel to a four year $120 million guaranteed contracts over a perfectly healthy Russell Wilson that was asking the same price your ass would be fired on the spot, and you would never work another day in the NFL. Every fan, and pundent would say you're a ****ing moron, and they'd be perfectly justified in that belief. There is no way that a reasonable intelligent human being that knows anything about football could make that decision. That is an indefensible decision that should get you fired instantly. It's not simply a gentleman's disagreement. That is an egregiously bad move and any fan that would be pissed off at you for it is justified in their anger. I don't give a **** about the interception Wilson threw in the super bowl two years ago, that doesn't justify giving that contract to Manziel who couldn't even convince the Browns to keep him.

Voting for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton is an equally indefensible position. You gave a reckless lunatic advocating fascist ideas who was beloved by the KKK and Neo-Nazis around the country access to nuclear weapons. I don't give a flying **** about her emails, or what you think you know about the Clinton Foundation. Donald Trump's entire campaign strategy was to bully his opponents, and hope that enough people who didn't like those people would think it was funny and vote for him. You don't get to elect a bully one day, and then turn around the next and ask everyone to be nice to you. If you elect a bully, then you deserve to get bullied right back. There is no way you can support making Donald Trump the President of the United States and call yourself a reasonably intelligent human being with your countries best interests at heart. America is no longer the leader of the free world, and people like you are the reason why.

There are only two excuses for voting for Donald Trump. Ignorance and Evil. I'll let you decide which of those words best describes you, but I guarantee one of them does.

Who the hell died and left you in charge of the world? :lamo

This last election I had a choice between 2 people who lied to the people. I picked Trump because at least I knew what he was thinking at the time. The other was the magician showing you the shells but deceiving you at every turn.

And now she's busy deceiving herself.
Go figure.
The leopard can't change its spots.

I didn't vote for Trump but I sure as hell don't think Hillary was a better choice.

Liberals aren't "most of the country".

Keep telling yourself that. How workable is it going to be when the "winner" begins his tenure with delusional posturing of his imaginary mandate to "govern,"
and immediately pivots in a direction opposite of even pretending he is going to put his heart, spirit, and abilities into being a POTUS of "all of the people?"
Take the log out of your eye! You own "American carnage," lined up in history, if it even endures, next to "Ask not..."

I just don't think the average politician's lies, even come close to the volume/frequency, and the severity, and reason for his lies.
To me he's the hardened criminal who sells drugs to kids, vs someone who steals a candy bar sometimes. Both are criminals, sure, but the difference is night and day.

I get that early on some of us had no idea that he was 100% full of B.S., and nuts. His campaign rhetoric did have a charm. He lied like nobodies business, but unless you fact checked it all, a lot of it may have been hard to catch right-off. His campaign speeches were entertaining, and he did poke fun at the establishment better than anyone. I can see how the vote came about..not the Republican primary, but the Hillary vs Trump part.

Once he got into office though, it quickly became apparent that he was never going to be honest, about anything, at any time. His actions then became how we judge him, and his actions have damned him 100 times over IMO. After month 3, I would have wanted to have a recall if that were a possibility, personally. Pick a second runner up, by all means, Dems didn't need to win. Just, not, Trump. Get a Republican Conservative in there...anyone, please.

But short of that, let's not defend his never-ending scandals. He's a train-wreck...maybe it was a mistake to vote him in...whatever, that's over and done with. But there is no reason to defend him with irrational reasons and lies, on top of his irrational behavior and lies. It's just wrong. And that constant defense, and spin and lies in *defense* of him, is what the craziness is IMO. Voting Trump, I get that. Defending him with lies on every issue? I just don't see how that's helpful.
