Will CBS axe Colbert earlier than the pre-announced May, 2026 cancellation?

Will CBS prematurely cancel the Late Show or allow Colbert to do what he wants?

I think they will can him before May 2026. Frankly it makes no sense why they would keep someone on who is a "short-timer" for a variety of reasons.

Typically when one gets fired, they are gone immediately. They may get severance etc., but for security and liability reasons it would make sense to do this sooner rather than later.
Really? When a NFL player knows his contract will not be renewed, does he sit out the rest of the season?

Liberals like Colbert like suing for the sake of suing.

This is hilarious, you realized you had no argument, so you made it partisan, made it personal to Colbert and the left. Tsk tsk.

It's esp. tone-deaf since TACO's been suing left and right...out of spite and to distract from his failures.

I do not watch shows like this and I am not a young man. Hard to imagine the yutes watching it. I get that my TV consumption is probably atypical but still, almost no interest from me for the late-night topical comedy, celebrity, and maybe a band show.

This genre is probably dead.
I don't know about that. I used to watch late night more when it wasn't competing with the round the clock political reporting.

Colbert is a master, his monologues are hilarious, he is very good with interviewing interesting guests. Jon Baptiste started his career on Colbert and his music was fantastic.

Tickets to be part of the audience are free, but difficult to land. It appears his audience is of all age groups.

I can't imagine that there is any shortage of advertisers.

Esp now. I bet they're lining up for air time after this. Knowing it will be the hottest late night show for 9 more months. Or less...so they may pay even more! :D People will be tuning in to see how far Colbert will go.

The reason they said May of 2026 is that is when his contract is finished. I'm sure a lot of other contracts related to the show are concurrent.

He can continue to throw a tantrum and be taken off the air and many other people won't be getting their paychecks who are not under a contract.

He show grow up.
How exactly is he throwing a tantrum? Truth telling is a tantrum? I thought you guys were all about "transparency" ?

"Grow up". followed by "Libtards"

They sued Trump how times since he became president a 2nd time?

Yes, on Constitutional and human rights issues...not out of spite, not because it's personal...but to protect the Const and the nation.

Your tone-deafness dives even deeper if you cant see the difference :ROFLMAO:

Go **** yourself is now truth telling?

It's simple. He has to deliver an appropriate show. If the glove coming off is synonymous with producing content that can't be aired then he will be in breach of his contract.

He can be taken off the air for that and the remainder of his contract and what he is owed for breaching it can be fought out in the courts.

However if the show shuts down early a lot of the "little people" who are not on contracts will lose their paychecks far sooner.

So if he is as compassionate as he claims, he should consider more than himself.

I mean we all remember when he took a pay cut to keep the show on the air since it's bleeding money right?

Oh wait, he didn't do that.

Contractual obligations and the large increase in ad revenue for the next 10 months

LOL, maybe he should poll the "little people" and see if they want him to "tone it down"

He is not inappropriate, even if you do not care for his point of view.

Seriously, he's never pulled his punches, and didn't seriously suggest anywhere that CBS management ever told him to tone it down.
The two times he's talked about this he's been very gracious toward CBS.

I will never forget his speech at that press dinner for Bush. Somebody thought he was serious when it was satire when he was chosen.

Bush looked like he swallowed a bug.

I liked his Daily Show gig where he played a rightwing blowhard. The "Truthiness" rant is one of the best political satire bits I have ever seen. It nailed those people.

Too bad something like that can't be done any more. Too close to the truth to be comical. If Satire and Parody are not dead, they are on life support.

He is not inappropriate with "the gloves on."

He just said they're coming off.

Ah, you are suggesting he should show "discretion" as is so often demonstrated by Trump.... you're funny....lol

Trump doesn't have to be employed by CBS, honor a contract with them or meet their broadcast standards.

That's an example of gloves on.

I wonder how much money they spent flying an entire crew to Russia for a "bit"?

I’ll never be sure if whoever booked him knew it was a character.

Voted "no" because I'm not sure CBS wants to look like they fold like cheap suits for everyone.
;)

I don't know if it matters anymore, because the people who enjoy Colbert will follow him to whatever new venture he starts and it may be one with less restrictions than broadcast television. I also think this action helps broadcast TV die a slightly faster death.

Anyone watching that video thinking it was Colbert pushing the Trump pee tape as if it was real....well....
