With the country still reeling from the slaughter of students in Parkland Florida, Broward County Sheriff Scot Israel has been making the rounds congratulating himself on a job well done. While bullets tore into the flesh of high school students, Parkland police, including armed school resource officer Scot Peterson, stood outside for six minutes and waited for the shooting to stop.

As the dead are buried, parents grieve and victims lie in the hospital with horrific injuries, Israel is feverishly making appearances on talk shows defending his politically correct police department and boasting about what a fantastic job he has done as Sheriff.

The damning security footage of Scot Peterson’s selfish inaction has been confiscated by authorities and Israel apparently has no intention of ever releasing it to the public. That footage no doubt depicts Peterson as Parkland high school senior Brandon Huff described him: cowering behind a stairwell pointing his gun at the building with the kids inside being mowed down by the shooter.

The public will never know how many of those students could have been saved if the generously paid, lavishly pensioned state employee had attacked the shooter with the same ferocity his fat jowls have been attacking doughnuts for the last decade. And if Scot Israel has his way that security footage will never see the light of day.

Peterson is gone, not fired but retired with a full pension. While the police guard his house protecting him from the press, citizens wonder if he is making plans for his retirement. Perhaps he will play golf next to a cemetery where some of the victims are buried because he couldn’t come to their aid by pointing a gun at the building while he was safe and they were dying.

Many questions linger as we wonder why Israel is getting away with hiding that security footage. The biggest question being: why is Israel still the sheriff of Broward County? Dereliction of duty is pretty clear in this case and Israel is front and center in placing incompetent policing in the public domain.

Seventeen people are dead and Scot Israel’s remorseless reaction is to dig in his heels and scream from the rooftops that he has no responsibility because he is doing a terrific job. The public needs two things; that security footage and Scot Israel’s immediate removal.

Those kids deserve better than to leave that clown in that job.

I'm assuming they're gathering every piece of negative information on him they can before they give him the boot, not that they need any more. He probably knows he's a dead man walking, career wise.

I feel pretty confidant that he'll be gone before long. Someone's head has to roll on this and he has everything pointing at him. Let them make there case, offer him a golden parachute for taking the hit quietly and it will be done.

Im not sure he can be fired. Isn't sherrif an elected position?

Where did this concept of holding public servants, our heroes in uniform, personally accountable suddenly come from? That is not the way the system works - especially when those being accused are the ones with the power of criminal investigation and arrest.

There will be the, all too usual, internal investigation taking months, at a minimum, costing plenty and resulting in a massive report. The basics of that report will be finding "some problems", mainly with training and related procedures (which should be fixed for a huge cost over the next several years) and the, ever present, "lack of resources" excuse (also requiring a huge infusion of cash, more tools and more personnel to correct). The bottom line is that government will assert that the government must be given more power (new laws), more personnel, more training and of course more money or this may (is likely to?) happen again.

It will happen again because there is really no way to stop these things in a society that has decayed to the point the US has. What we can change are the systemic policies that encourage hacks like Scot Peterson protected by public sector unions to collect paychecks as placeholders. In law enforcement this is fatal.

He is only being attacked by the right because he is a Dem.....look at the video of the Columbine shooting and you will see police taking cover behind their cars. Sorry putting a badge on does not make you a hero. Doing what that coach did to protect his kids makes him a hero.

The reason why there wasn't much backlash of the police response in columbine is mainly because shootings wrre still relatively new and police haven't worked out what tactics to use.

That (bolded above) is much what I was saying - but will result, as it has many times before, in asking the slugs in place to fix (heal?) themselves, at further public expense, instead of calling them out by name and getting rid of them along with anyone that gave them glowing personnel reviews, promotions and merit raises. So long as we the sheeple tolerate the "job for life" culture among our alleged public servants then they will continue playing their role as our masters unabated.

Yep, because they can with no fear of losing that job. Just because you give a government employee a paycheck does not mean that they will become a government worker. If one gets paid whether they do the job correctly or not, and could not be fired for the lack of performance, then why not slack off as much as possible? It is too easy to say that they were not specifically instructed and/or trained for that particular situation - that puts the blame on someone else higher up but, rather than hold anyone personally accountable, it will be said that "the system" needs more power (new laws), more training, better equipment and, of course, more money. The end result is that government grows and still nobody will be held accountable (other than the taxpayers).

If the coward moniker fits the Boward deputies it surely fits the Columbine ones, the cars had a saying on them that said to serve and protect. If you can't take the heat.....go become a night watchman

This is the first time most folks have noticed the pattern of cops not going on the offensive against mass shooters, in most cases.

I'm big on defending the cops, but in this instant, I can't. The failure of the officer was terrible.

But then, I recall the cops being accused of being "militarized." It a catch-22. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

There are investigative processes that have to be followed, not to mention the "innocent until proven guilty" thing.

Obviously, you don't support our men in uniform. Why do you hate America?

Conservatives have lost the right to criticize law enforcement after berrating minorities for doing the same.

Those “investigative processes”, “have to be followed”, “innocent until proven guilty” things just get in the way. Why can’t we just tar ‘n’ feather the guy and ride him out on a rail to the county social and hang’m from an old oak tree?

Broward Sheriff’s SOP manual does not require engagement of a known, active-shooter, even when others are in danger, by “the deputy”. Whether Israel changed that on the fly to what he said was that the deputy should engage the shooter or not, I guess we’ll find out. Including definitions and other details as to if “the deputy” refers to the case where there is only one deputy. Various LEO departments in the states have varying SOP’s that might require back up before entering a live shooting scene. Departments do not necessarily require that a single LEO enter a mass shooter scene without back up. In 57% of solo-officer entry, the scene is still active. And, in those cases, one-third of the officers get shot. The officer training pamphlet I link below is a few years old, but most interesting.

That's ridiculous. I had no idea what party he belongs to, and I'm ready to kick his tail. 4 officers that didn't go in -- including one resource officer on campus. 45 calls to the kids house for a laundry list of violent issues, and most of the time, the officers didn't even write down what happened. The sheriff has been caught flat out lying to the public. He needs to be gone.

The officers actions (or in this case, inaction) are a direct reflection of department leadership (or lack thereof). As such, the Sheriff needs to resign or be terminated.

Yeah. Same here. There's really no excuse and it kills me to say that.

Maybe because it is better to let passions cool and deliberate and reason carefully before taking drastic actions.

There is something about this shooting that does not add up. It seems a little too convenient for gun control advocates. Is this person lying or is she crazy?

There may be strategic reasons for not releasing surveillance video.

 There is always a "liberal" conspiracy of some sort, for conservatives these days.

I see nothing at all in that ABC News story to suggest a conspiracy.

And, I'm sorry, but the other two links (i.e. YourNewsWire.com and Intellihub.com) are both well-known right wing conspiracy, fake-news websites.

But hey........anything to avoid the gun-control debate, right?

Apples and oranges.

He may also be obstructing justice. There are missing recordings of the event at well.
