There is only one way to get the virus out of the way and that is for a certain population to have been exposed to it at a level where we reach heard immunity. Closing things down, taking all these preventative measures does not change how many people get it. It only spreads it out over a longer period of time. The benefit to this is that we don't overload the healthcare systems in place. However, if the healthcare systems in certain areas are not overwhelmed by opening back up then it's best to do that.

One of the most foolish things about Trump's approach is that he's encouraging people to engage in non-business activities which will make the contagion worse and hit business harder. But if the economy goes weak, food production slows, shipping and processing slows, people can not afford rent, and the greatest factors in disease and even surviving disease is health and living conditions.

If we let the economy fail just to prevent the disease the failure would actually leave more dead than if we ended all protections and pretended the virus never happened. Look at the 1918 pandemic, the biggest cause of the high death rate was lack of treatment for pneumonia and poor living conditions and nutrition, and somehow people like you think shutting down the economy and bringing ideal conditions for a pandemic will make things better?

There is a reason economic return is moving forward, everyone with half a brain should know this, and if they were serious about protecting lives they would be doing like is done now, moving forward with restrictions rather than what some want which is shutting down the economy and locking people in their houses to fight a flu/cold type virus the type no science has ever been able to beat in the history of mankind, and this one is no different.
