White evangelical Christians voted overwhelmingly for Trump* in the 2016 election. They did this despite the fact that

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Why do these "Christians" vote against just about everything Jesus stood for?

Are you saying that white Christians are "very good people" too?

This is actually an interesting question, but it presumes that Jesus would be a Democrat or liberal or progressive if He were around today.

Libertarian seems more like it, or maybe Green?

But I know plenty of Christians who wouldn't vote for Trump over the pooty-grabbing stuff & so on.

Putting people in boxes...

When people try to put Jesus into a political box, it shows that they have absolutely no clue why He was here.

Based on the bible, Jesus would have definitely been a Trump supporter imo. Evangelical/Fundamental support is biblically based imo.

Yeah - I think libertarian or Green mainly because it's often a "None of the above" stance, but likely apolitical.

Naw.

He might have had secret admiration for Bernie though; maybe he'd recruit him as a Disciple.

:)

Jesus was an Independent... like me.

I disagree. The bible condones genocide, hatred racism, slavery, rape, murder. Only one group has run a campaign strategy of racism and hatred for over 1/2 a century. Only one party has a leader that publicly supported Neo Nazis, saying some are "Very fine people". Hint: Southern strategy - Wikipedia

The OP does not mention Jesus so I will stick to the OP.

There are many reasons why, here is one:

Why Christians Vote Republican Despite It All. Sex is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman. When it comes to "gender expression," there is no difference between "sex" and "gender," and the Christian response to gender dysphoria is compassion and treatment, not indulgence and surgical mutilation.

Here is another:

Most Evangelicals vote Republican because it reflects their own personal and religious views of morality. Christianity is not about freedom. It is about living your life according to God's standards. Religion teaches us to love all people but just because you love others doesn't mean that you approve or accept their lifestyles or actions.

That is the Old Testament... Christians following the New Testament and Christianity...

You mean they aren't trying to put the Ten Commandments up in Court Houses? They didn't use the OT to justify slavery? They don't use the OT to justify trying to prevent gay marriage?

Jesus said OT law still applies Matthew 5:18 “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

This "We don't follow the OT" is nonsense, used whenever it's inconvenient to admit to supporting a book which describes a truly despicable and disgusting god.

Some denominations might follow such scripture but not your normal Christian.... just like you normal Muslim doesn't answer calls to jihad.

Because they're fascists. The religious facade is meaningless.

Clearly, because they think he will appoint enough "conservative," i.e., anti choice, judges to outlaw abortion. That's the one issue they really care about, that and gay marriage.

and because self described Christians aren't necessarily really followers of Christ at all.

Leftists hate Christians. That's why we don't vote Democrat.

We want limited government that won't endanger our civil rights.

Well that's a fine false equivalence, comparing being against gay marriage to Muslim jihadists.

The bible and q'aran are used to justify whatever behavior the Christian or Muslim needs it to justify. Want to hate gays? Religion! Want to have slaves? The Religion! Want to justify greed? Religion! Want to exterminate an entire people? Religion! Want to beat your children? Religion!
