White Co, TN Offers 30 Days off For B/C Fix

This smacks of eugenics.

It has the appearance of people wanting to sterilize a part of society they deem lesser. While not exactly forced... at the very least arm twisted into it by creating a narrative of having to choose between your sperm and your freedom.

key word there is the ability to choose NOT to be subjected to birth control

they would not suffer for choosing not to authorize the birth control, they would instead fulfill their complete jail term

as a condition of receiving public assistance, i would impose the requirement to also be subjected to birth control to remain eligible. people should not be having children while it is obvious that they are then without the means to provide for them

Prolonged imprisonment beyond would could be can indeed be seen as suffering. It's a bait tactic. I'm not saying its at gunpoint, but it is indeed coercion to make the such a decision. Unlike white-collar crime, they can't pay a fine so... sterilization gets them out of it. It's eerily wicked IMO.

if the prison sentence would have actually been prolonged for a refusal to permit birth control, then i would agree
however, they lost an early exit opportunity with the decline and will instead remain their whole jail term
much as an inmate who declines the opportunity to earn time for good behavior does not benefit from early release
it's a choice willingly made

In a for profit prison system, classic american illusion.

i am unaware of whether the prison is government- or privately- managed
