The second flaw in your analysis is that you seem to predicate your view on things running in cycles around a mythical static center. Any even cursory glance at the history of this country or history of societies in general does not assert this notion, but instead that cultures evolve. New ideas come, current ideas evolve, old ideas die or transform, sometimes to be reborn a while later (but not often). For example, much of current culture was formed in the 1920s to 1940s after a major technological, financial, and military shock. We are experiencing a new shock and its changing those basic assumptions again.

Don't get me wrong, us liberals will overstep, we are famous for it, but when the pendulum swings back, I suspect we will find a very different type of conservative than we know today.
