What would you do if this happened in front of you?

We have seen a number of anti Black. Latino and even gay people being shouted at by people using the N word, or the use of wetback or faggot. These people do it in front of others in public settings. They say it is part of their first Amendment rights, and who knows maybe it is. It is of course racist, but they seem to think that it is now okay to do so believing that with Trump is in office gives them permission. So what would you do if you were there when this is happening? Would you go about your business and leave the situation alone? Would you speak up and ask the person to stop? Would you intervene physically if necessary, i.e., the person goes from yelling these words to acting out by attacking the person he is yelling at? What would you do?

You really think that Trump is at fault and not that the racist visibility and Trump are not the consequence of the same problematic liberal overshoot?

Indy, I'm not dancing around what you are saying but it depends on where it is, how many people are there and other things like that.

How you seen how in football games when a coach gets mad at the referee his assistants will step between him and the referee? If there is a big crowd watching then some people might get in front of the shouter and try to get him to back off like that. That might be enough to get him to stop.

If the shouter or the minority person pulls out a gun then that changes everything. I'm not a hero so I might run. If my family is with me I will get them to run too. But if I am by myself I might quickly pray and ask God to let me know what to do and then do it. The Bible says you can ask God what to do and He will let you know at that time what to do.

I know that's not much of an answer but that's as close as I can get to an answer.

Again as I said in an earlier post I did not say that Trump gave them permission to do what the are doing, I said they think he gave them permission. There is a difference.

It's too late for me to edit my post but I should say that it's easy for me to say all of that because I have never seen people yelling racial names at each other in public like that in real life.

Who is assaulting who in this situation. I think that the people on the train did as little as possible to give aid to those verbally assaulted by the drunk. I am so happy to see that you are there to protect the poor drunk. Do you actually think what he was doing was appropriate? If you do that is a real shame.

It doesn't matter what I, or anyone else thinks of what he's saying. The point is, his comment don't justify physical assault, nor theft. That's un-American. If people want to say stupid **** in public, that's their right. You want to assault them and steal their ****? That's a right you do not have.

Absolutely nothing.

Walk on, in most cases. Getting mixed up in other people's senseless confrontations, particularly where Group A and Group B both arrive at Site C and are both looking for trouble, is not a very wise way to go around living one's life.

Now if it was some individual going about his/her normal occasions minding their own business who got accosted and threatened by a group of haters, I might very well feel differently, possibly moved to act on their behalf. Especially if the person under threat was a child, a woman or an elder.

No, we haven't. On TV maybe. Probably not IRL.

In my experience this is something more often seen on YouTube than in real life. I live in the South, allegedly such a hotbed of racism according to many who don't live here and have rarely or never visited, and I've yet to see such a thing IRL with my own eyes.

It is a good way to end ones life though.

To be frank, locally I have found calling the police to be slightly less effective than calling the Marx Brothers. Unless there is a dead body or someone with a gun in hand, getting them to exhibit an attitude that is functionally distinguishable from indifference is like pulling rattlesnake teeth.

If our local LE vanished tomorrow it might take a week for anyone to notice, and longer still for anyone to care.
I wasn't speaking as much to the effectiveness of the police, as to the wisdom of getting involved in other people's battles.

But as to police effectiveness, from my personal experience in my city they do a reasonably good job on disputes. They break them up, and often demand one party leave with the clear knowledge they're going to the pokey if they come back or harass.

There's a big "but" involved though, and that's that I came from the right demographics and neighborhood. Not all neighborhoods and demographics got the service I did.
