What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

saw Midway Today. I have seen the first Midway film several times. The acting in the first one was better. This one had really good special effects. Early in the film, the attack on Pearl Harbor was featured. Woody Harrelson did a decent job as Admiral Nimitz and this film focuses on the US military intelligence officers more than the first one.

Yeah I like the Charlton Heston version better too. In this new version the battle sequences are pretty much like Marvel Superhero stuff- totally unrealistic.

Even the dialogue in this new one made me cringe: "We need to haul ass to Halsey." WTF.

The Irishman (2019) - IMDb Scorsese is at it again with Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, perhaps for the final time together. It's about a guy named Frank who becomes a hitman for the mob, and his relationship with Jimmy Hoffa.

I gotta say, its 3 and a half hours long and some portions do drag a little. Some of the computer generated de aging is a bit awkward though, because these old actors have a hard time physically playing younger versions of themselves- stand ins would have helped.

In the end though, it's nice to see DeNiro, Pacino and Pesci do one last turn- it almost feels like a swansong for all the major players involved. Lots of the supporting cast was from Boardwalk Empire too. The whole thing is very similar to Goodfellas. 8/10

I watched it last weekend and it was excellent. Best film I saw this year.

yeah the 76 version had a hall of fame cast with Heston, Henry Fonda, Toshio Mifune, Coburn, etc. I agree with you

Oh its a good movie, it was the CGI stuff that I felt made it a bit crazy.

Last week, I watched "Angel Has Fallen." A little more predictable than I like, but still a great movie.

Ford vs. Ferrari

My wife and I went to see it last Friday and we both gave it 5 stars. Well acted and very entertaining. I'll be buying the Blu Ray when it comes out.

On Netflix: Bon Cop, Bad Cop.

4 stars for a buddy cop movie. Yeah, formulaic in that respect, a bit contrived but some hysterically funny stuff and the acting is superb.

The only thing I really objected to was one of the lead character's sister being a ridiculous slut right out of the gate. I mean, come on, there's a 15 yr old in the room!

Also, Canadians are nuts when it comes to hockey and I'm still trying to figure out if regular Canadians and Quebecois really despise each other that much.

I highly recommend it and there's a sequel, a part 2, that got very good reviews too...also on Netflix. It might be my Christmas present to me.

(If you start watching it...it's not all in subtitles, it goes between English and French very easily)

On Netflix..."Don't **** With Cats."

It's a documentary about a group of internet sleuth's trying to catch a guy that posted videos that went viral of himself killing kittens...the first sign of a serial killer. The story takes a lot of interesting turns and is quite fascinating how average people on the internet can organize and find evidence online to catch the person who committed these horrible acts and before he actually kills someone. But first they have to find where he's located and that could be anywhere on the planet.

I resisted watching it at first because of the nature of the violence...but thankfully the film blurred it out and focused more on the peoples reactions to it....so it was more bearable to watch than anticipated...but it was still disturbing.

The film was a slice of the kind of world we live in now.

Ford vs Ferrari. Excellent. IMHO it's Christian Bale's best role.

Star Wars...whatever the last one is called.

3 stars, barely.

From the other thread:

Overall I found the latest and last movie uninspiring. It was ok.

But I'm glad we saw it, it kinda brings 'closure' to something I've followed since I was 17 when it was the coolest thing my friends and I had ever seen...until the Star Trek movies really got going (starting with the Wrath of Khan).

I think I did fall asleep briefly at one point...there was one significant death that I missed. But remember, we'd had a huge meal and alcohol before going to the theatre, lol.

Piranhas (2019) - IMDb Italian mafia movie about a gang of youths who end up as a mob outfit. I normally love mafia movies, but it's sort of predictable. 5.5/10

1917 was great. I enjoyed how they were able to put it together as a single take. My only complaint was it was very plot armor heavy in the middle and some time transitions didnt work as well as they could have but these are minor nitpicks.

They did a lot of fakeout deaths in that one so maybe you didnt miss a death.

" White tiger" WWII movie. Kind of strange, but good tank action scenes

Richard Jewel- Clint Eastwood directs an all-star cast about the security guard falsely accused of being a terrorist. It's good and well acted, but the whole thing seems so underwhelming, and in the end it feels more like a made for TV movie, than something you'd watch in the cinema. 7/10

Terminator Dark Fate- I didnt bother to watch this in the cinema because I knew it was gonna suck, and I was right. It's completely pointless and pretty much tells the same story as T2. The only changes they made was that the bad guy can split in two and the messiah is now a Mexican. Not surprising why it bombed at the box office. 0/10

"Come and see" WWII partisans and nazie atrocities.

Just Mercy. My Rating: 10 out of 10, especially when viewed on MLK Day!

Just Mercy/Film synopsis
After graduating from Harvard, Bryan Stevenson heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or those not afforded proper representation. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who is sentenced to die in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite evidence proving his innocence. In the years that follow, Stevenson encounters racism and legal and political maneuverings as he tirelessly fights for McMillian's life.

Just finished watching the last of the Paranormal Activity saga.

1-3, 5 and 6 I give a 5/5
4? Give it a 2/5. It was dull. Did a lot of fast-forwarding with that one.

I haven't watched these in a while because...well **** it, I might was well be a man and admit it: They creep me out.

After watching them, I get a small creepy feeling for a while. And that takes a lot of doing when it comes to horror movies. I can watch some of the scariest stuff made and not have it effect me, but the PA series? In my opinion, it's gotta be a winner to do that.

I saw "Parasite" last night. I enjoyed it very much. It was a well told story. The acting was superb. The cinematography was very good. The subtitles were not a bother and in fact were well done, in this respect:

Joon-ho Bong has worked closely with American translator Darcy Paquet, a Korean resident and "cinephile" blogger of Korean movies, on almost all of his films, and gives him tremendous credit for their collaboration, especially for the astute way he enhances the American English quality of script and subtitles.
Parasite (2019) - Trivia - IMDb

I've seen many films with subtitles and with many of those, the English translation can be stilted and impairs the flow of the story. At times I was barely aware I was reading and watching.

I highly recommend it. 10/10.

I saw "Knives Out" over the weekend. I enjoyed that one too. Funny, entertaining and well acted. I defo recommend it! 10/10.

Dark Waters- legal drama with Mark Ruffalo as a lawyer who uncovers a huge poisoning scandal by Du Pont. Its very similar to that Julia Roberts movie Erin Brockovich. The themes are good and the acting is fine, but the whole film just drags and I was bored by the end. 6/10.
