What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

I saw HOSTILES.
It was pretty good except in certain parts where they threw logic out the window and went with how modern people would react instead of how they would have reacted in the 1890's. As an example;
SPOILER ALERT:
1. In the beginning a farmer is in his house and 5 "injuns" appear on a hill only about 150 yards directly in front of his house, overlooking his house.
A. no farmer would have built his house on a downward slope like that. He would have built it up on the hill so he could have a view of anyone approaching, kept the water drainage out, kept any snow slides out, and been much drier.

2. The "injuns" attack on horseback and Hollywood has him run out of his house shooting a Winchester 73 in the standing position. Very unstable and he is outnumbered five to one. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
A. Any farmer of the day would have told his wife, " Hey, Babe, we are gonna get five new ponies in just a few seconds when these inexperienced injuns come riding down on me in an open field". Why? The farmer would have steadied his aim against the window and wall frame and gotten good steady shots on each one as they came on. Wifey would have had the shotgun they all had and dealt with any that might have gotten too close. A Winchester 73 holds something like 10 or 14 rounds of 44-40 ammo. Having a steady hold he would have made short work of all of them, and with quick follow up shots.

A Not too detailed spoiler alert:
They also seemed to pick some bad guys out of the air and introduce them purely for the intent of killing off some of the principles.
They did that twice.

The Birth of a Nation: it cost a nickle so I never saw another one

It would be helpful if you would work in complete thoughts.

Now you are expecting wayyyy too much.

What I was trying to say, is that cosmo is a "womans" magazine, and the claim that it is anti-woman is at best a tad harsh. Dont want to spoil it, but women are not the weak sex in this movie imo.

Cosmo is a trip, they sell "You should love women for their minds not their bodies" as the push sex tips.

I have not seen this yet, I was going to go today but will not make it, I hope to Thursday because I really want to see it at the Yelm theater with their recliner chairs and all you can eat popcorn with free toppings and all you can drink soda you get it yourself so you get it just the way you like it but this complaint about the long rape scene I suspect is pure nonsense. This whole move revolves around erotic/sexual violence, and here with have this Cosmo piece whining:

Take the first rape scene, for example. Lawrence plays Dominika with a face that’s hard to read, but it’s clear that when she accepts her uncle’s mission that she doesn’t fully understand what she’s getting herself into. She knows she’s supposed to “keep the man company,” and while sex is implied to the audience, Dominika doesn’t seem to catch on until she’s alone with the man in his hotel room and he’s asking to her undress. From there, he rips off her underwear and rapes her until he’s murdered while still on top of her.

Defenders of Red Sparrow could argue that this incident serves to establish the gritty, violent tone of the movie early on, but what I saw was an unnecessarily long rape scene that’s designed to titillate. The reason Dominika has to go to Sparrow School is because she saw the man’s murder, not because he raped her — so why do we have to watch her assault?

Long rape scene? There is a rape scene, but long is not a word I would associate with it...

As for the movie revolving around erotic/sexual violence.. nope wrong again imo.

Go see it, it is well worth the 5 euros... yea we got cheap tickets here.

Cosmo got the details wrong.

It is obvious that Dominika knew why she was going to the room, and when he told her to take off her dress, she complied. When he got forceful, she did not say No! Instead, she said Not so fast!

Shaun of the Dead

Quite funny, of course.

Tomb Raider.....mildly entertaining, shockingly for 2018 devoid of #METOO-"MEN SUCK!" politics.

I, Tonya. It brings a sharp Coen Brothers style wit to the Tonya Harding story. The actors are so good you'll go to imdb and be surprised to find not one single notable name in the cast.

The shape of water. An absurd plot that is so well done you believe a love story between a mute woman and a black lagoon creature. I'm serious.

Darkest Hour 8/10 Gary Oldman was terrific.

Call Me By Your Name 7/10 Beautiful locale, great acting.

Three Billboards 9/10 Best movie this year imo
Gary oldman deserved the Oscar...even if they got some of the history wrong

Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, and Allison Janney are all quite well known. Did I misunderstand your meaning?

Robbie is so big that she has her own production company already, and this movie was one of their products.

No Sir, You likely understood the matter correctly.

:2wave:

An old movie I'd seen before, starring Jean Reno and Gary Oldman (and a very young Natalie Porter),
"The Professional."

Watching it again still gives that enjoyment I had the first time. Some scenes I find disturbing.....but must be a pleasure for pedophiles.

This scene - with its soundtrack - is simply awesome.

I really liked this film - I watched it again a month back - seeing Natalie Portman that young makes me feel old.

I didn't like it either but some great acting in some scenes

Terrific acting, vegas giants. The principal actors were nailing it! But, I just couldn't relax into it. It's hard to explain, because I am a DARK humor person;)

They didn't embrace a concept. They kept leaving it up to the audience to figure out what things really meant. Just my two cents.

I saw Fargo (original) again recently, just saw it was on and the wife and I watched it.
Still cracks me up. Great memorable ludicrous scenes...reminds me a little of a humorous version of Tarantino.
*spoiler*

Macy, the master criminal, squealing in his underwear trying to get out the window...every bit as good as the wood chipper as part of the ending.

The Dinner, noticed it when it came out (did not even make $2 million) and put it in my brain to watch if it ever turned up on Netflix or something.

It turned up on Netfix so I gave it a go even though almost everyone hated it.

I have been watching Steve Coogan on the "Trip too" series see.

Yes the book is supposed to so much better.

8/10

That is a spellbinding movie, so many great characters, it it moves right along.

12 Strong 7.5/10. A typical chest thumping America is great movie but with a lot of humility and good acting. Highly recommended and based on a true story.

KONG SKULL ISLAND

I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but it turned out to be quite entertaining. The helicopters scene is really good.
My gripe is about the fight scene with the main bad monster - it's too long. Also, why no snakes?

Ready Player One 3D

I liked it. But I like nearly everything.

The 3D was good in the virtual reality scenes. The movie is worth seeing in 3D if you go see it.

People will enjoy the movie more if they are of the generation that had an Atari 2600 as a kid.

People will also enjoy the movie more if they've seen The Shining before.
