I remember liking this movie okay when it first came out. A little disappointing, but decent. It really doesn't hold up. Every single character is really annoying in their own special annoying way and sending one person across the galaxy (there were four people sent in the book) to see her dad was lame; as if, humanity suffers a collective, crippling parent-child complex. Bah.

The Hateful 8. Puro Tarantino!

It is another outstanding Tarantino flick for those who can't get enough of Tarantino. It's likely more of a man flick. My wife thought it was "OK" and then later thought it was "Weird". Violent and profane, well written and directed with an outstanding cast, it was time well spend. Anytime you have Samuel Jackson in a movie it is going to be good.

Hell or High Water. Traces of no country for old men and Sicario,,,

Oscar worthy.

Zack and Miri make a Porno

As an erotic adventurer I had to take a look, and it was mildly amusing, I made it to the end. The story is pretty goofy, and this was super cheap to make, but the acting is pretty darn good.

I am between a 6 and a 7, but I am going to upgrade cause they took a chance with playing with highly erotic themes, then let love win.

War Dogs

This didn't quite live up to the promise of the trailer, but it was still pretty good. I found there was a fairly even spacing of laughs throughout, with only the occasional lull.

It basically feels like a cross between Lord of War and The Wolf of Wallstreet. Again, it's not quite as good as either film, but it's certainly adequate, and more than sufficiently stylish to hold your attention.

Bad Moms

Ehhh... This was "alright." I laughed. I even laughed pretty hard on a few occasions.

I can't say that I really relate to it, per se, however. The values are a bit too modern "yuppie"/Pop-Left for my tastes.

First off, my mother was always a "bad mom" by this movie's definition, so I don't see why anyone would bother with all the anal retentive nonsense in the beginning of this film anyway.

Secondly, if your kid's a mouthy brat, just smack 'em and get it over with. ENTIRELY way too much angst on that subject going on here. lol

Lastly, there's A LOT of one-dimensional stereotyping going on in this film, much of it rather blatant in terms of agenda setting.

The SAHM? She's a socially awkward sad shut-in with low self-esteem, being emotionally abused by a tyrannical husband who, apparently, can't even get it up.

Likewise, we're told that Kunnis' husband is a "successful mortage broker." Ooookay... So why do we only see the guy as a couch-surfing pajama-wearing meat-head with a permanent three day beard?

The man she ultimately winds up with is... Of course, a "sensitive guy" stereotype as well. He's a chiseled, soft-spoken, Latin single-dad who dresses in tight jeans and soft red sweater shirts, who loves nothing more than going down on women for extended periods of time.

Just a tad "on the nose" there guys... Don't you think?

By the Sea (2015) - IMDb

Brangelina plays a dysfunctional American couple in a seaside resort in France sometime in the 70's. He's a drunken writer (seems writers are always drunks when they are portrayed in movies) and she's his bored wife. The visuals are good and it tries to make itself into a European art-house film, but nothing much happens. 4/10

Juliet of the Spirits (1965) - IMDb Frederico Fellini's first color film about an Italian housewife who thinks her husband is cheating on her and her eccentric friends. While it oozes 60's cool, I just couldnt get into it. Too arty for me. 5/10

Don't Breathe

This film basically seems to be working off of the same premise as "The Terrible Old Man", by H.P. Lovecraft. Three robbers break into the house of a strange, but seemingly harmless, old man who is rumored to be incredibly wealthy, only to (fatally) discover that he is anything but "harmless" after all. The major focus of this particular adaptation simply happens to be more on suspense/home invasion/slasher tropes rather than the supernatural.

In this regard, the movie is incredibly well done. It manages to be tense, suspenseful, disturbing, and violent without having to stoop to the kinds of torture and gore porn which so commonly dilute the genre.

My only complaint would be that a lot of the main characters aren't particularly likable. The ending is also a bit too convenient, in my opinion.

The girl gets away with the money, and starts a new life with her sister. The Blind Man survives, and it's heavily implied that he will come after her... Even though a destitute blind man pulling that off is more than a bit far-fetched to say the least.

I think it would have been better if they had both wound up getting caught by the police in the end.

In any case...

Not sure if I mentioned it, but "Bridge of Spies" a while back. Pretty much a 10/10.

Seriously?
Movie was okay I guess, but 10/10?

There is a phrase: tastes vary.

I'm sure there are people who love actions movies and who rate the Fast & Furious movies similarly. Meanwhile I'd rate them as 0/10. And then, those who love actions movies would probably be bored to tears by something like Bridge f Spies.

Similarly, I loved Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Easily 10/10. Meanwhile it gets 7.1/10 on imbdb, less than Bridge even, I believe. It probably took too much paying attention and listening for certain viewers.

Star Trek.

The last one was disappointing but after delaying forever I decided to go. I should have skipped it. I love the new crew, the acting, this could really be something but they are never given much of anything to work with. Way too much summer block buster shoot em up, but more than the over load of inane "action" what really messed this move up was the terrible pacing. IT looked good on the screen of course, they spent a bunch to get the right look, but it was all wasted on a bad story. I did note however that the UP WITH WOMEN political push was well done here, so much better than Star Wars, it fit in and did not go overboard.

The STARZ cable channel had the new STAR WARS film on yesterday for free - and I watched it.

I would give it a four or five at the most out of a ten scale. It was beyond derivative - more like a video game in far too many spots for my taste. Carrie Fisher was beyond bad and looked like a corpse that had been badly revived. Ford merely did a SNL imitation of his character.

The guy who played the new version of a Vader villain Kylo Ren was simply weird looking without the mask and I wish he had put it back on. Adam Driver is definitely not my cup of tea.

I did like Daisy Ridley the young actress playing the new heroic character who learns to use the force.

I had some hopes for it since Lawrence Kasdan worked on it and EMPIRE is the only really good movie of the first six and he is largely responsible for that. But this was something I will never watch again and had to struggle to get through it the first time.

No Way, Jose
6/10

Really makes me wonder how many young men's lives were destroyed by vindictive fathers back in the 70's and 80's, before the laws began to change.

Via Netflix DVD....The Man Who Knew Infinity.

10 of 10.
Just a great story of what one can accomplish regardless of humble beginnings.

Not sure I've ever seen a movie with Jeremy Irons that I didn't enjoy.

This movie actually brought me to tears at the end.

Please see this movie.

"The Wave", a Norwegian movie about a Tsunami caused by rockfall deep in a Fjord.

Well acted, but extremely 'meh' in all other respects.

I watched Batman V Superman Extended Cut and I gotta say, its a lot better than the version that came out in the movies, the movie is a lot longer at over 3 hours, but some aspects of the story makes more sense. The flashbacks with Batman's origins and the dream sequences would have been better cut and pretty much makes the movie drag, but the main story makes a little bit more sense this time. I would probably rate the extended cut 7/10 while I would downgrade the theatrical cut to 5/10

Older movie, but I just watched Eye In The Sky with Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman. Excellent movie about the decision making of drone strikes from thousands of miles away. I highly recommend it. 9/10

The Royal Tenenbaums 7/10 but then Im a sucker for Wes Anderson movies

and

Coraline 9/10

saw that a while back

movie was too violent and gory for our taste

the cast of characters was good....i just think he could have toned it down a bit, and still had enough blood and gore to satisfy even the most gruesome movie goers

sometimes less is more....
