What was the first concert you ever attended?

In This Moment at the Masquerade in Atlanta in 2011.

there was quite a controversy; the budokan was the martial arts arena for the tokyo olympics in '64. some of the citizens did not want it sullied by western rock performances, seeking to have it restricted for sumo competitions. they did not get their way

here was my first concert at age 13:

unfortunately, i had to choose between two scheduled budokan performances. here was the other option ... the one i chose not to attend, in favor of the Ventures:

1981 in Tucson.

In 1984 while serving in Germany I got to see the Monsters OF Rock Tour. AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Gary Moore, Dio, Accept, and Mötley Crüe.

Led Zeppelin@ Atlanta Fulton County Stadium 1973.

G45, you must be older than dirt!

I'm older than the rocks that eroded into dirt! Seriously though, my first concert was in 1981 when I was 14 years old. I saw Black Sabbath during the Ronnie James Dio & Vinnie Appice era. They were touring in support of their new Mob Rules album, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.

I owned that album on vinyl first, and cassette in the mid 80s, although I wasn't a big fan of Mob Rules at that age and time. I did like the first Dio/Appice era Sabbath album "Heaven & Hell" back then though. But I hadn't listened to either album since the late 80s.

Just recently, I rediscovered Ronnie James Dio's work, including his later solo career, and his earlier Rainbow career. So I gave Mob Rules a 2nd chance recently, and now I see that album, as well as Heaven & Hell, as being equal to any of Sabbath's earlier work. There are very good songs on both albums.

When I was around 12, my mom took me to a Barbershop Quartet competition at a small local concert venue. All a cappella. Simply amazing!

In 1984 while serving in Germany I got to see the Monsters OF Rock Tour. AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Gary Moore, Dio, Accept, and Mötley Crüe.

I've seen ALL those bands except Accept(Lol), Gary Moore and AC/DC. I saw Dio with Sabbath(1st concert), and I saw him during his solo career at the Sacred Heart tour. I saw Ozzy with Jake E Lee during the Bark @ the Moon tour, with Motley Crue as the opening act, supporting Shout at the Devil, right before they hit it big.

I saw Alice in Chains open for Van Halen in 1991, and Def Leppard open for Billy Squier in early 1983. That was just before they hit it big, and the Spectrum crowd loved their show so much, that when Billy Squire took the stage, he was roundly booed.

I saw Pink Floyd in 87 at the ancient, crumbling but enormous JFK stadium, where Live Aid took place. It was general admission, and there were over 120,000 attendees that night.

I saw the Dead on the last night of their spring 1993 tour, at Nassau county colosseum. Scalpers were selling fake tickets, while real tickets were going for over $100. However, some stranger 'gifted' my friends a ticket, and I got in just before it began.

I saw Crosby, Stills & Nash in like 1990 at the Mann music center, I saw Boston in 1986, for their first tour since the 70s.

But the real jewel hidden among this list, are the 3 times I inadvertently saw Dokken in concert(coincidentally, they opened for 3 bands I had bought tickets to see in the 80s)! Lol

I saw Crosby, Stills & Nash at the anti-nuke concert in Manhattan in 1979; they really sounded good and were roundly applauded by over a quarter million people who were present for the concert.

Another great rock group!

1st and the best of many I've seen...from the comments, still the best...

Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra - Oakland, Oracle Arena - August 2, 2018

Not the first, but the second, I think, The Grateful Dead @ The Spectrum in 1974.

I saw CSNY in 1974 at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. Santana, the Band, and Jesse Colin Young were the rest of the bill.

Btw. Richard Manuel was sick for the show, so Billy Preston sat in. That led to one of the strangest sets I've ever seen.

Picture up on cripple creek etc. with Billy Preston. Picture outta space, nothing from nothing, and will it go round in circles with the Band.

Good times.

Loggins & Messina for a whole buck. Freshman mixer, Fall of 71", BGSU

Next in line was Yes, followed by Joe Cocker, JoJo Gunn, Allman Bros. (best live show ever), the Dead, numerous combinations and solos from CSNY, Steely Dan, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raite, Gladys Knight, the Dobbie Bros., Diana Ross, John Fogerty and a host of lesser names and last but not least, the Stones in Akron.

My favorite genre remains the Blues.

My first concert was The Beatles. Sept 6, 1964 ( i was a young teen ) at Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Mich.

My mom and friends mom went to the stadium to buy the $3.00 balcony tickets for my sister and I and my friend and her brother.

My dad drove us there ( about an hour away ) that day and stayed by our car until the concert was over.

We were very fortunate to have such wonderful parents who helped make our dreams come true.

BTW the Bearles returned to Detroit 2 years later in Aug. of 1966 and we were lucky enough to see them again for our second concert experience.

I never saw the Beatles. So I hate everyone who has. Sure, I am bitter. Be glad that you didn't see Jimi. I buy voodoo dolls for Jimi veterans.

I'm sure most of you have been to at least one concert in your life so the question is: what was the first concert you ever attended?

For me, It was The Beatles, at Shea Stadium in 1964.

you probably win with that one.
