Finally got a pic of my little one :)

Since there is no way to put every possible animal in the poll, I Googled the top ten most popular pets and used eight of those. I only used eight to allow for the option of “something else” and “never had a pet”.

Attaching poll. It’ll be multiple choice.

Numerous dogs, some cats, lizards, my mother used to keep wild doves as pets in a bird cage, they were actually super easy to domesticate, a turtle thrown in there as well, named lil red cuz he was a red eared slider, oh and catfish, bullhead mudcats are awesome fish as pets.

For the past month, there's been an ongoing influx of all sorts of baby frogs and toads to properties including my mother's home and my client's home next door. I am constantly trying to look out for them so I don't step on them, while relocating dozens of them to more ideal spots in the area.

Several times now, I have seriously considered taking one and creating a home for it. I've considered setting up an appropriate setting for one, knowing that keeping it in an aquarium will likely improve its individual odds of survival. Especially considering that MOST will be eaten by birds, insects, cats etc.

But I keep changing my mind, mainly because it's not always easy to figure out which type and species of frog or toad they are. Some are clearly tree frogs of maybe 2 varieties, others are aquatic frogs of as many as 3 varieties, while some will be toads. I just don't know for sure how to properly care for them. So I keep releasing them in safe places.

In texas in 2014, when we had massive floods, we actually had frog stampedes. At the lake I would walk after the lake campgrounds were no longer underwater and see thousands of baby frogs maybe the size of a dime definately not far beyond the tadpole stage hpping in general directions. Sad thing is most of them probably ended up as fish food.

I've only seen 4 major frog "outbreaks". The first was the most dramatic. It was in this rural town where we lived, on a rainy night. We were driving down this road that had a very small creek on its left, that ran close and parallel to the road for about 250m. As we drove down the hill to that section of road in the pouring rain, we saw thousands of little frogs hopping across the road all at once!

Currently only have 2 fish and a bearded dragon. I recently lost my beloved Boxer and it was hard so taking a little break but over my lifetime I have had so many different pets except mice or rats. Never ever will I keep a rat as a pet.

I always had dogs until I moved to the city - mostly German Shepherds, but when I was really young we lived in Northern Ontario, and a puppy showed up on our doorstep - we literally lived in the bush...hehe... Turned out to be half husky, half WOLF - had it checked out by the park rangers, as it looked like a pure wolf, and my folks were nervous that the mother would come looking for it, and my sister and I were really young. Amazing animal, identified with me out of the gates, and drove my father crazy by only ever listening to me. Sad end, we found it shot on the side of the road with it's tail cut off - there was a $50 per tail bounty at the time on wolves, and no one ever tied their animals up around there, so...honest mistake, but still pretty devastating. But it was a super cool pet! :)

I have 2 dogs...Scooter and Hazel...after my last dog, Brownie, died at the age of 16, I said I'd never get another dog because the pain was so great...but here I am...life and the house was just too empty...

The Biden Cujo Incident had me searching for the DP Pets thread. I guess this is it. Needs more pics : )

I've got two lab rescues. Midge, and Tartar.

That's the way I do my polls as well.

But some members never understand that the system allows 10 options only und keep writing: "You forgot ...." when I have not forgotten anything. :)

And I clicked for "cats" as we always had cats on our farm.
I have a cat now too. He’s a feral I started feeding last year. I’ve done the responsible thing and had him fixed and vaccinated. He resides on my front porch.

Everyone’s a critic when it comes to polls aren’t they?

I cannot and will not EVER understand having pets. Aside from the fact that it is cruel to the animal, why on earth someone chooses to clean up piss and shit is beyond me.
Also, every time I see "help this dog" or "save this cat" I just think, why don't these people freakin' help humans!
None of it makes any reasoned sense. Of course man is an emotional mess.

Growing up, we had at one time or another (not necessarily all at once):
7 cats
6 dogs
2 goats
2 ponies
2 miniature horses
10+ rabbits
20+ chickens (all named, not for eating, same for all the birds)
10+ ducks
8+ geese
5 fish
1 stick insect

Currently have 2 dogs.

Humans are in a much better position to help themselves than animals are. Having pets is not cruel provided you take care of them and, yes, cleaning up after them is part of the responsibility of having them but when you connect with an animal you don’t mind. Shoot, I used to volunteer at a shelter and I didn’t mind cleaning the kennels of dogs that weren’t even mine.

One can not make such a statement from reason, only emotion.

A dog is a pack animal and is typically left alone most it's life. Talk about psychological torture. Then there is the bit about them not getting proper exercise. Depriving them from reproducing, even "fixing" them. Want to talk about declawing cats?

Spend a life alone in a cage as a bird does?

Even time I read a Facebook post about animal cruelty I know the poster is a dumb ****.

Sorry dude, if you love your pet, you would not have him.

Yes, no doubt, animals engage my emotions, probably like nothing else does. I agree that dogs are social animals that need to be treated as part of the family. I assume that’s true of birds but I also know that some birds don’t do well with constant handling. Part of caring for animals correctly is knowing or learning what their social needs are and meeting them. Frankly, I think struggling for food and survival in the wild is overrated. The cat I have is semi feral and free roaming but he wants really badly to come inside. Declawing cats is absolutely cruel.

I love dogs. I have had several over the years, and I have adored them all. I am no longer physically able to walk/exercise a puppy/dog, so we have had cats for many years instead. We love them all, cats and dogs, so I care for our cats, who are indoor pets (in a world of coyotes and wolves) and I love them dearly. I wish I was able to properly care for a doggie, as I have for so many years, but my physical limitations prevent me from giving them the exercise and care that they need. I love my cats, and they love me., I care for them as I would care for any living being that required my help to survive.

I wish I was physically able to care for a doggie as well. I have loved so many over the years.

Our cat recently turned 18. Had her since 2006 or so... adopted from a friend who was moving across the country to a no-pets building. Nicest creature in the world. Spends most of the day alternating between my lap and second (aka, her) desk chair. At least half the night on the bed.

Always had cats. Always thought she might want company but never got another because she also happens to be the biggest wuss of a cat I've ever seen. Timid, easily frightened, and physically impotent. As in, I came back to the apartment one day - when she was young and feisty - to find her crouched in the bathroom with a mouse in her mouth, head sticking out one side and ass out the other. Floor was covered in mouse turds.

She wasn't batting it. She couldn't even bite down to wound it. She was just holding the thing. Must've had it for hours. I put on gloves, distracted her with food, and picked the thing up. Went to set it free on the fire escape, but it committed suicide. As in, this mouse ran straight to the edge and leapt clear off. I figured it'd make its way down the stairs. I mean, mice are pretty agile, right? Must've been scared out of its mind....

So in light of stuff like that, the last thing I wanted to do was take the risk of getting another cat that might terrorize/dominate her.
