What is white privilege? [W:355]

Re: What is white privilege?

RACE
Black Female Lawmaker In Minnesota Worries About Teenage Son's Safety

...
And so, of course, teenagers, they're going to defy their parents. But I remember having a conversation with Shawn after I had told him that he couldn't run, and he had defied me, and he had been running. And he told me this story about how he was running and this woman drove in front of him and just kind of blocked off his space of where he was running and let down her window and asked him, did you just steal from that store? Is that why you're running?

KING: Shawn, how old were you when that happened?

S RICHARDSON: I think I was - I think 15.

KING: You were a kid.

S RICHARDSON: Yeah.

KING: And what is your thought when a white woman asks you, are you running because you stole something?

S RICHARDSON: At that time, I didn't really take it like, oh, you know, I'm African American and I'm running. I got stopped by a Caucasian woman and she asked me, you know, did you steal something from the store. It was just kind of like - kind of shrugged my shoulders, and I was like, oh, no, I didn't, and just, you know, finished my run. But, like, looking at it now, it's like that wasn't OK at all.

KING: You are 17. And the best part of being 17 is freedom.

S RICHARDSON: Yes.

Teh statement was that black people can not even going jogging without getting harassed... this is a generaly statement about black people overall, not an isolated incident.
Hell, I have been harassed for merely walking in certain areas... probably everybody has.

Re: What is white privilege?

None of that has anything to do with the election of Obama.

He tried to talk about race, but no matter what he said, he was accused of playing the race card.

Much like Jackie Robinson had to refrain from speaking his mind, Obama had to be a much different POTUS, and be much more guarded in his comments. And even then, the right called, and to this day, calls him a race baiter.

He said:

These are the same group of people who aren't aware that whites have had privileges since the founding of USA.

...and I said that there are black people in power all over the USA. This is a fact that you seem to be trying to deflect by stating that everything is not perfectly equal, or something. I made my point. It is accurate. Sorry...

...Regarding white people having privilege since the founding of the USA... that is not accurate either. Poor white people, the Irish and other immigrants were treated like dogs and had no rights initially. Today poor white do not have any privilege and well to do minorities do have privilege. It is Economic Privilege that matters... that is why.

Re: What is white privilege?

Sure...but I also confirm their (our) beliefs with evidence, statistics, and peer reviewed studies.

The other side's arguments does not hold up to that kind of scrutiny. They build their arguments on anecdotal evidence, emotions, and sometimes, complete fabrication.

Naw... if you watched Fox News and listened to the black people in question you would hear all sorts of facts based off of statistics and evidence but they are facts that you do not care about or find important enough to want to understand.

I watch FOX, and I frequent conservative forums. I do this, as I am trying to understand.

If you have some data that you think is accurate and worth checking out....post it, I'll check it out.

If you watch Fox enough to see black experts or commentators come on then you would see that they offer facts about a plethora of things that they are arguing about. There are black ex Secret Service, lawyers, politicians, police chiefs, etc etc etc.

There was a story recently, in Ga? Where a black man was confronted while jogging and then shot.
You didn't hear of that?

I gave 1 person's story. But that story is resonant among many in the black community.

Well, I guess i do not watch it enough, as the few times I have seen black people on there, they parrot the same things their white counterparts say.

I am interested in one of these studies/papers you say they reference, if you have something, please post it.
I will give it an honest read, and see if their assertions stand up to some scrutiny.

Sure I heard of that incident... then you gave one person's story... there are a lot of incidents where black people are harassed.

The black population is about 13%. The white population is about 70%.

That means that if only a few white percentage points might seem like a lot to black people but the vast majority of white people are not racist or participating in discrimination.

"Parroting" is a nice term to dismiss something that you do not want to acknowledge.

How about you post some studies to back up your argument?

Re: What is white privilege?

Yeah, how dare anyone ever criticize a white man.

This makes zero sense. Had you said, “how dare anyone criticize the US”, that would have followed the actual conversation and yeah, I’d actually have to admit that I am pretty full up to my eyeballs with US bashers.

Re: What is white privilege?

When a handful of black people support conservative ideology, they are admired by conservatives.

And you bring up confirmation bias?

That’s because, for conservatives, it’s about ideology, not race whereas liberals, like you have demonstrated, ****ing hate black conservatives (more than Donald Trump probably) and it has everything to do with race. All your supposed racial sensitivity flies right out the window if it’s a minority who holds a view you don’t think they should.

Re: What is white privilege?

What a terribly wrong comment.
Born white. Live white. For many decades now. I don't feel the least bit ashamed. Never have. Never will.

You must have some issues if you feel ashamed.

But I do recognize being white in a white dominated society and laws made by mostly white males, have given whites, especially males, some advantages.

Doesn't mean I didn't work to get to where I am. I did. Very hard.

So I can see there's white privilege without any guilt. So, don't you feel guilty either. Unless you have a reason for said guilt.

white privilege is the new white guilt trip that leftists have played because the white guilt trip failed.
Obviously you do feel guilty about all your privilege. I wish i had some of this special privilege then maybe like the rest of you
guys I wouldn't have to work my butt off like I do. Things would just fall into my lap because i am white.

Re: What is white privilege?

The denying of white privilege is a foundation of racism. It is only denied by racists.

No it is denied by logical rational thinking people that don't believe in the boogyman.
Please eco if you feel so privilege you should give it back.

Re: What is white privilege?

Unfairly successful? Haha. What racist bs.

White people start on third base. Black people start with two strikes. The reasons go all the way back to slavery, when black people were reduced to 0% of power and wealth.

Only racists fail to see this.

show me who is enslaved today in the US and you might have a point. Who me who is enslaved in the last 30 years or so.

I do not hate white or black conservatives. I simply disagree with their ideology.

It is disappointing you chose to go personal, when you know nothing about me.

It appears you are either too emotional, and/or lack the ability to have a reasonable, mature debate/discussion.

Have a good day.

Examples of Systemic Racism in the US Justice System
Although a politically controversial topic, there are overwhelming facts to support the notion that the US justice system is racist especially looking at the targeting and punishing of African-Americans. Looking at data on police stoppings, shootings, drug arrests, bailing process, legal representation, trial, sentencing, jury selection, freedom, and parole, a trend of biasness appears. On drug use, African-Americans constitute 13% of the population and 14% of drug users, but 37% of drug-related arrests and 56% of inmates of crimes relating to drugs. In New York, colored people make up 50% of the population but Latinos and Blacks make up over 80% of NYPD stops. In fact, in most US cities, Blacks are thrice likely to be arrested than whites. During a trial, African-Americans are more likely to be in prison as they wait for trial than whites and since most may not afford to hire lawyers, underpaid and undermotivated public defenders are more likely to defend such cases. Data from Alabama also indicates that a higher representation in the jury is white, especially in cases involving death penalty whereas US Sentencing Commission reported that blacks tend to receive 10% longer sentences than whites for the same crime. The US Bureau of Justice and Statistics indicated that 32% (one in three) of blacks, 17% of Latinos, and 6% of whites have a chance of being arrested. With a black-juvenile population of 16%, they represent 28% of arrests and 37% of inmates.

What is Systemic Racism? - WorldAtlas

No one is saying that. What is being said is there is systemic racism. It is ingrained into the system and minds of people without awareness.
But now, many are being made aware.

It's not new.
It basically goes back to the founding of country and the founders owning slaves and considering them to not be people.
In fact, back then, non land owners were treated as having no voice.

Still not sure why you feel guilty. Do you know why you feel guilty?
I don't feel guilty. I know my hard path I had was easier than many many many minorities. Not just black skin people. But blacks have a longer road to travel.

Banks doing redlining, did great damage to inner city black neighborhoods.

You didn't even read my post, did you. I said I worked very hard as well. That doesn't negate the privilege whites had over other colors. Even over females. Do you deny women were also left behind white males. White males had privilege over them as well. You understand that, don't you?

Ugg there is no evidence of systematic racism. People are in jail because they belong there in most cases.
there has been a long line of people freed from jail due to new technology and better identification processes.
Yes because most of the drug related arrests have to do with drug trafficking vs possession.

if you look at Crack time served and meth sentencing they are exactly the same. They are more likely to be arrested because
they are more likely to be committing crimes.

It's not new.

If you knew history the majority of the founding fathers were against slavery in general. The words all men are created equal struck a nerve with a lot of people.
In fact the founding fathers in one draft didn't want slavery at all. It was the racist jacksonian democrats that insisted on it. The southern states would not have ratified the constitution.
It was a horrible compromise that a few years later would cause a civil war.

Still not sure why you feel guilty. Do you know why you feel guilty?

I don't feel guilty you do otherwise you wouldn't be harping on about all your privilege and systematic racism and now this non-existent unconscious bias.
you guys are always chasing boogey men. Yes racism is real yes it does exist but it is not this wide spread conspiracy theory that you think it is.

Banks doing redlining, did great damage to inner city black neighborhoods.

Yep and that was abolished 50+ years ago. So that argument went down the tubes.

You didn't work hard at all. Y0u had white privilege. you got what you got because you are white nothing more nothing less.
I wish i had that then i wouldn't have to work my ass off like i do to try and get ahead.

Where have you been for the last 50 years? Why are you still living in the past?
Yes at one point in time women were mothers, home caretakers, and fathers were family providers.

The family unit was strong and in general most families were successful and stable.

You think you were privileged what are you going to do about it? How are you going to pay for that privilege?

I got where I am today by study, hard work and taken opportunities when they came up.
I am looking forward to more opportunities in the future.

I wish i had all your privilege though would have made my life a lot easier.

Of course there is.

That is the main gist of all the protesting. Watch some real news.

Re: What is white privilege?

This document was written for white male landed gentry in the US...Did you notice how the guy that wrote it owned slaves?

Did you know it's a living document and did you notice how we live up to it by our action/works as shown by future 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments and numerous civil rights, voting rights and fair housing acts and court decisions thereupon?

Bunch of tripe. People doing criminal things have a greater chance of being arrested and jailed. Instead of asking why the evil criminal justice system is picking on the black man we should be asking why the black man is doing criminal activity in greater proportions.

But that would be racist. So we will just blame whitey for the criminal black male. Make up some nonsense term like "white privilege" and soothe our screwed up psyche.

I have an idea for all white people who feel the need to apologize for existing. Just kill yourself immediately and prove you're serious about your guilt. But don't forget to kiss a thug's boots first.

It's frankly disgusting the utter weakness of these soy ingesting woke pukes.
