Why do you think I was referring to racism?

Ummmmmmmmmm. Isn't this what the protests are all about? It isn't about police brutality. It is about white officers shooting black thugs. Ask Kaepernick. This is about Black Lives Matter.

If I wanted to watch political and social commentary, I wouldn't tune in to football. Exactly what makes any professional football player think I'm interested in their political and social views? I don't check with my doctor on his political and social views before I let him treat me. I don't quiz the guy who mounts tires on my vehicle before I let him do the work to make certain his views are acceptable to me. What makes these players think this is any different?

Exactly! Look at how many Hollywood celebrities were against Trump before the election and Trump still won. Only liberals care about what celebrities say. The general public has actually started doing the exact opposite of what celebrities try to brainwash us into. Could be a factor in why NFL ratings have been way down this year before Trump even started blasting them.

You don't post your views on a football field because you would have to wait for the stadium to close at night before being permitted onto the field. And even then security guards tasked with protecting the stadium at night may catch you and hand you over to the police.

Have you ever seen those things we call signs in the stands? Probably not.

So now you want to eject people holding signs? Good lord, man, you really do need to read the Constitution.

The last thing I want to see before or during a pro football game is some player who is making millions protesting!
I am pretty much done with the NFL. If the league can not police the sport and keep it at football only then I
believe they will see people leave in droves.

If players want to protest something then they can do it as much as they want on their time not at a football game.
I think the NFL is going to see how badly they have handled this situation.

Everyone desperately needs a outlet from the politics of the day football used to do that but no more.

Yep. If Kaepernick never works in the NFL again, he has millions of dollars. The poor black boy who is such a victim of racist America. My tears dried up before they even started.

It could be because I'm posting on a political board. Maybe that's it. Now, if I were sky writing those views over an NFL stadium on game day, you might have a point.

Exactly! I'm all for these guys being political activists for any cause they choose but when they punch in on the time clock it is to play football (or whatever), not to be a political activist. Then they have the hypocritical balls to claim that a politician (Trump) doesn't have the right to be engaged in politics.

Your happy you don't even have you hide your racism now aren't you.

You're using the available medium that will let you communicate your views, just as the football players are using the medium available to them. So again, what makes you think anybody is interested in your opinions?

The football players have punched the time clock to play football. They can do whatever political activism they wish after they have punched out. I'm guessing you really don't give a rat's ass about football but fans have already expressed their opinions on these protests by not watching, causing NFL ratings to plummet this year. They reap what they sow but it is not fair to those players who actually are respecting their country, their flag, and their national anthem.

And I don't understand why, because the quality of his posts are consistently quite terrible. Yet you enjoy them, so to each their own. So if you can understand getting something out of his posts (though I can't imagine what that might be), you can possibly imagine that there are people who respect what the football players are doing. Many might not necessarily agree with their message, but they respect their methods and of course their first amendment right to protest.

More to the point, the football players aren't required to "shut up and do their jobs" any more than Humbolt is, even though we can all agree that it would be much better for the collective IQ of this board if he did.

The quality of your posts rests about as close to zero as it is possible.

Your happy you don't even have you hide your racism now aren't you.

On the contrary, I think it is great that this country is so great that minorities, the poor, etc. can rise up and become millionaires from nothing. I just object to them spitting on the same country who gave them that great opportunity.

Greetings, humbolt. :2wave:

Some of us actually tune in to watch a game because we have our favorite team to cheer on! Surprise! We certainly don't expect to watch the usual daily dose of manufactured "breaking news" about what player is protesting something today! Does anybody really care what they think? I'm only one person, but I sure don't spend time worrying about what they think about anything, any more than they care about what I think about them grandstanding their politically motivated opinion at a totally unrelated football game! Fair is fair!

I really don't care what Trump thinks of this. Football fans fund the professional game. If the NFL wishes to allow political and social comment on the field, and they can, they do so at their own jeopardy. I watch football in admiration of the physical abilities of the players in the sport and the mental abilities of the tacticians on the sidelines. That's why I watch. If professional football becomes something other than professional football, I'll quit watching. At that point, I'll have other things more fulfilling to do with my time.

I'm still waiting for the right to hit bottom. It seems no matter what Trump or his people do they always find a way to make themselves look even worse.

You just absolutely have to be listening to voices of your own manufacture bouncing around between your ears. I said nothing of the sort.

Agreed. I have no interest in stopping these players from declaring their political and social views. I have an interest in watching football. It's a singular pursuit for a few hours every weekend during football season in which I can forget about other concerns. I imagine most fans view it similarly, no matter their political persuasion. When those perceived benefits disappear, I'll disappear from the fan base.

In the last 15 years, the NFL has had over 215 DUIs, 100 drug charges, 96 players charged with beating their wife or girlfriend, 80 assaults, and a couple of murders, yet folks are drawing the line when a player takes a knee.

All of that stuff has contributed to the decline in viewership. Taking a knee has just added one more reason to the pile.

Yep. I'm seriously considering giving up on football. I did give up on baseball many moons ago after a strike in which the crybabies weren't happy making megamillions of dollars per year. I have no favorite team anymore and it has been many years since I showed much interest in the sport. When playoff and World Series time comes around I half watch, which is half more than I usually do. Now it seems like the NFL is going down a similar road. If all they are about is spitting on the country, the flag, and the national anthem then they can go to hell for I care. I believe there are many more conservatives who watch the game than liberals so their fight with Trump is going to wind up hurting them more than they think and ratings were already way down. They could sink like the Dixie Chicks did. I don't see liberals tuning them in more because of this but conservatives will be tuning them out. They are also hypocritical bastards for blacklisting Kaepernick and then claiming that they are backing the players. If they are going to back the players then why not show it by hiring back Kaepernick? This all reminds me of the left boycotting Chic-Fil-A a few years ago and then their stores were swamped with mega business from conservatives, giving them massive sales increases.

Personally I am glad that political activism is finding its way into the NFL.

Trump is a moron and he's in no way a unifier. He's taken a protest that many didn't even think about or know about and turned it into huge deal.

Sometimes I think he's purposely trying to destroy the Republican Party. He constantly tweets and takes shots at brown people. I doubt the GOP will get a minority vote for the next 20 years.

Of course you are. Would you still be happy if it was right wing political activism, or only left wing activism? The country as a whole is getting tired of liberal activism and political correctness and it caused Donald Trump to be elected our president and, the funny thing is, the left doesn't even realize that they are actually the ones who are responsible for Trump being president.

Apparently you expecting to be entertained by the NFL is just you feeling entitled due to your white privilge.

And Donald trump is at this point making the same mistake that Herbert Hoover made during his only presidential term.

Then again, Hoover as a individual has more redeeming qualities than Donald trump, who seems to be the reincarnation of William Poole
