What Happened in Wisconsin on Tuesday, 7 April Was Absolutely Disgraceful

Can we calm down here? Republicans are not Nazis and democrats are not stupid. The GOP has a pretty obvious interest in keeping turnout low. They have said as much. Democrats have a pretty obvious interest in pushing higher turnout. They have said as much. Anyone can figure this out. End of story.
False-Equivalence from a ‘so-called’ Liberal. And you wonder why the GOP owns the state legislatures, most of the governors, SCOTUS, pre$ident, Senate, state supreme courts, and the vast majority of the 142 state and federal remaps next decade.

State law does not allow the Governor to unilaterally change the date of an election, and the Supreme Court confirmed this and returned it to the Executive and Legislative branches of government. The Governor clearly did not have a plan in place and changed his stance on delaying the elections multiple times. The buck stops at the top of the chain of command, and that's the Governor of Wisconsin.

Everyone needs to make sure elections happen on time, fair, and free.....if leaders fail to make this happen then they are threat to my freedom and to my nation. .

In that case they need to go away..

You just said the buck stops at the top for a governor, while you support a pre$ident who consistently say he doesn’t take responsibility.

What was Trump's role with the incompetence and indecisive actions of the Governor of Wisconsin? Regardless, while I may or may not support a politician, that doesn't always translate into supporting every decision that politician makes. I'm not a sheeple.

The elections in Wisconsin happened on time. The failure to postpone the elections was because of inconsistent messaging and an indecisive leader.

Republicans pretend to care about the unborn until they’re born. Then they don’t even bother pretending about life.

I don't know any Christians who have no heart for children of all ages, including the unborn.

There has been way too much chatter from folks who certainly should know better about canceling or changing the dates of elections because "SAFETY!!!"

That's my point.

What should states do to prevent the vote manipulations of the type that were uncovered in NC in 2016, particularly among republican mismanagement of absentee or mail-in voting?

I dont know about that, but I do know that those who run elections have generally in a lot of places shown way too little interest in them being run well, starting with SCOTUS.

THAT'S A HUGE MFing PROBLEM!

Primary elections typically yield low voter turnouts .. even looking at the 2020 primary elections, voter turnout across all states where primaries have been completed only averaged around 22 - 25%. Colorado has the highest percentage of turnout @ 42.6%. On the opposite end of the spectrum, North Dakota was at 2.6% and Nevada a close second @ 4.9%. Pretty pathetic results in my opinion.

This is why Trump is going to “win” the election in November, because of underhanded, vile Republican bull**** such as this.

No, this will come back to hurt them. The old people who form their base won't come out and vote or know how to or be willing to wait on long lines. Young people are more likely to take the chance.

What equivalence? I was describing reality. Demographics are against the GOP, so they suppress votes as best they can within the parameters of the law. That is immoral in my view. Dems know they do better when more turn out, with all they have to do is fight republican restrictive measures. Also, republicans like Trump have appealed to resentment of black progress since Nixon’s so-called southern strategy, though the anti-immigrant stuff is fairly new and is more or less Trump’s thing, not the GOP’s.

How’s he supposed to know the answer to your dishonest and ridiculous question, trouble13?
Its neither dishonest nor is it ridiculous. It is pertinent information to have in order to form an opinion. Information that he did provide too.
Why do you think republicans support these GOP voter terrorists?
Why do you think a flaw in the system equates to terrorism?

I am curious if the cause of the glitch has been identified and what if any corrective steps have been proposed to avoid repeat occurences in the future. Was it a flaw in the mail system that the board never got the requests or was it that the board reciebed the requests but failed to send the ballots out.

In either scenerio i can understand the decission and why they avoided setting a precedent to allow people to vote past the election date.
Waiting until 2 weeks before the election to request a ballot, when you have known about the virus for months, seems a bit irresponsible and foolish.

Republicans are happy they killed Wisconsin Democrats yesterday, let alone all of them that will go through Hell with trump’s virus.

This is just the beginning of the voter terrorism that the GOP will perpetrate to scare Democrats away from voting in November.

Next up is Martial Law and the calling out of Reich-Wing Militias

again you have no clue what you are talking about.

The Gov. does not have the power to single handily change election laws.
that is what the courts ruled on and the courts were correct.

Sorry do you think the Gov. should be king of the state?
that is what you are arguing at this point.

The election was fair and free. these things are planned months ahead.
Everyone in Gov knew it and knew the risk ahead of time.

They could have come to some agreement to change the date etc ...
The Gov is not king and does not have the power to change election dates by himself.
he even admitted it several times yet he tried it anyway and the courts smacked him down.

no one suppressed votes etc... for the Democratic Gov.
why do you people continue to lie?
i thought you guys hated lies.

don't we all just expect this kind of crap now?

This is why Trump is going to “win” the election in November, because of underhanded, vile Republican bull**** such as this.

Wisconsin is already well-known for having some of the most draconian voter suppression laws in the country. In fact, it's very likely that voter suppression laws in Wisconsin depressed voter turnout in African American communities in Milwaukee and Madison during the 2016 election, costing Hillary Clinton the state of Wisconsin. Of course, these voter suppression laws were passed by former Republican Gov Scott Walker and his Republican-controlled legislature several years ago.

What happened on 7 April was worse than anything that the crazed right-wing extremist Republicans in Wisconsin have done in the past. The partisan, Republican-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Wisconsin could not delay its election due to COVID-19. As a result, thousands of Wisconsin voters were forced to vote in-person today during this COVID-19 crisis. The Democratic Governor and the Democrats in the Wisconsin legislature wanted to delay the voting to a later date, after the worst of this COVID-19 crisis had passed. However, these Democrats were overruled by the Republican-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court.

As a result, thousands of Wisconsin citizens were forced to wait in long, congested, unsafe lines to vote today. It's obvious that Wisconsin Republicans care very little about the personal health and safety of the citizens of their state. They know the fewer that people vote, the better their chances of winning. If people are waiting in long lines to vote in Democratic strongholds like Milwaukee and Madison, the better chance that Republicans have to win.

In fact, only FIVE voting stations were open in the entire city of Milwaukee. That's right -- FIVE!! 175 polling stations in Milwaukee were closed on Tuesday, due to COVID-19.

This is EXACTLY what the fascist Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature wanted. Republicans in Wisconsin wanted to get a right-wing incumbent re-elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday, which is why Republicans were so anxious to take advantage of the current COVID-19 situation.

I've never despised Trump and the Republican Party more than I do right now. They are vile, disgusting, anti-American, dangerous assholes. **** them all.

Some more food for thought for the 60% of decent Americans, regarding the recent Wisconsin election rulings by the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court:

Rulings on Wisconsin Election Raise Questions About Judicial Partisanship - The New York Times

The US Supreme Court agreed with the State Supreme Court and the only reason there were only 5 poling stations in Milwaukee was because of lack of volunteers. If the democrats were worried about disenfranchisement, why didn't they volunteer so those other polling stations would have been open?

The end of the story is that there was an election where all involved had the same set of rules, the elected officials were too ****ing stupid to deal with a pending perceived problem til the very last minute and then sought a solution through the courts like they always do and the courts refused to bail them out, not because the courts were partisan but because the courts followed the law.

And in a state where the impact was universal as were the opportunities, leftists **** themselves about racism and voter restrictions, trying to turn their own stupidity into a campaign issue...which simply was not the case.

No...you will run on the fact that somehow only the democrats were too ****ing stupid to figure out how to vote and have to find yet another excuse as to why its someone else's fault they suck.

THAT is what you will run on.

Again.

Nah. Wrong as always, Trump cultist.

We will run on what I said before -- see post #28. Our goal will be to put the Nazi Repug Party out of business. Permanently. **** those fascists.

Republican governors in states like Ohio and Wyoming have delayed elections. This talibornagain behavior by the Wisconsin GOP Terrorists is a clear sign of what’s to come in November with trump and mcconnell.

Republicans from trump to the USSC to the state Supreme Court to the gop state legislature now have blood on their hands. They’re murderers.

Amen, brother. What gets me is the idiot Repugs on this board pretending that Wisconsin had no choice but to vote on Tuesday. Bull****. Other states chose the smart and moral path -- delay the primaries.

Wisconsin is under Repug terrorist rule, as you stated.

One addition. The Republican legislature has made it much more difficult to even stay alive in cities like Milwaukee and Madison; especially if you want to vote. These cities will now become ‘hot spots’.

The RNC, led by R. Romney McDaniel, will now adopt Wisconsin’s GOP techniques in every Blue city in this Nation. Our Democracy is Dead.

Less polling places, Inconvenient locations, Less Early Voting Days; is it any surprise that the ‘hot spots’ are all Blue Cities; the Martial Law coup is on

Yes, you are correct. The Nazi Repug Party is setting the groundwork to repeat what happened in Wisconsin nationwide in November: Delayed absentee ballots. Fewer mail ballots. 5 voting locations in a city the size of Milwaukee. Unbelievable.

You are 100% incorrect. Republicans are indeed Nazis. **** them all.

Bull****. Wisconsin could have delayed the primary, just like several other states have done. The Repug terrorists in Wisconsin simply didn't want to. If they wanted to, they would have worked with the Democratic governor to make it happen. Repugs wanted to take advantage of the COVID-19 situation and they did. **** them.
