What does the bible say about gay rights?

It made sense for the Old Testament Israelites to condemn homosexuality. They also condemned masturbation, although not as much. Israel was a small nation surrounded by powerful enemies, and frequently at war. The Israelites needed a high birth rate to compensate for deaths on the battlefield. We do not need a high birth rate now.

Leviticus 18:22
"Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin."
(NLT)

Leviticus 20:13
"If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have
committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense."
(NLT)

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat peoplenone of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.\

1 Timothy 1:8-10
Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine.

That same bible also says that people can practice slavery, are not to eat shrimp, not to eat pork, not to work on the sabbath, not to eat anything with cheese, and can't have tattoos.

The Bible's purpose isn't political so why would it emphasize, protest or rally for earthly laws?

I'd say that should cover all political issues then. Those involving rights and laws. Correct?

Just yes or no and I wont follow it up.

This is the barely coherent and grammatically inept speech of a man who desperately wants to be able to claim that he "cured coronavirus."

That's it, in a nutshell. When we do get a handle on this crisis, he wants to be able to pull out footage and declare "I called it! I said use this! I said try this! I told them to do this, it was my idea!" He's just doing it with lots of stupid stuff because he doesnt want to miss an opportunity. He's afraid 'the big one' will be mentioned and he wont get credit for it.

It's all about declaring himself the savior of the cv crisis and we'll hear all about it, esp in his campaign. (Which is basically each of his press briefings these days) --- Lursa

Gays doing stuff to each other are considered an abomination in the Bible.
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22
"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." Leviticus 20:13

That's not the Word of God. God was very clear in his Message and anything that diverges from that is 'men of the times' interpretations and biases. God's Word is brotherly love, forgiveness, compassion, and peace. There is zero about being gay that is against any of those things.

I am sure you will find that I correctly quoted the Bible.

I am sure you believe that 'men' interpreted God's Word 100% accurately.

The overriding message speaks for itself...

The government has no business using any religious text to create laws.

quoting my post, cause seems some people didn't see it.

Something about an abomination to lay with another man as you would with a woman. Since we have separate bedrooms, I'm not seeing the problem.

Uh...Jesus dead. You may want to read up on that whole Crucifixion thing.

But he came back a few days later - and that's why we hunt for Easter eggs each year. It's so obvious!

Uh..Jesus alive. You want want to read up on that whole resurrection thing.

I do not see any evidence that the whole 'resurrection thing' is more than just a story.

If you read the passages quoted in Hebrew, A man (ish) may not lay with a male (zachar ). This is very likely that the zachar is not allowed to be called a 'man'.. every word counts. Now, who can not be legally called a man? Younger boys. It's very likely that this is discussing the custom in many cultures of the time where men took younger boys as lovers. .. and is prohibiting that.

That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. (Romans 1:26-27)
Sex with the same sex is natural for homosexuals so if you're homosexual you're not turning away from what is natural for you.

In order for this verse to be against homosexuals it must first state that homosexuality is unnatural. Clearly it isn't.

I
To reject that is to reject modern understandings of human behavior. So to believe this is about homosexuals is too engaged in a Christian version of wahhabism.

The term homosexuality was coined at the turn of the 20th century to describe a concept that didn't exist until then so there's no way the Bible could have ever made a mention of it. It was just retroactively edited to condemn homosexuality because homosexuals don't bear children did the same degree as heterosexuals do.

So you have a misinterpretation and a retroactively edited quote.

So when Jesus says he's all things to all people Jesus is lying? When he says he has walked our path before us he's lying?

I think people that want to make a Jesus exclusive are truly evil. You are Catholic right? Doesn't Catholic mean universal?

if it's not for gay people then it can't be universal there for Catholicism would be a lie.

The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.

Right wingers need to stop practicing the abomination of hypocrisy and false witness bearing to be taken seriously about their alleged devotion to the, Word of God as expressed in a Bible.

The texts I quoted from the New Testament are manifestly anti-gay. They are not complicated texts which can have alternative meanings. Romans juxtaposes normal sexual relations with men doing shameful things with other men, meaning only heterosexuality may be described as normal. First Corinthians condemns homosexuality as a sin but you say it could not have stated this because no one knew what homosexuality was until about AD 1900. As you know, the New Testament was written in Greek and you are disputing the term homosexuality. In Greek the word used is ἀρσενοκοῖται which translates as homosexuality.

No they aren't, you have simply interpreted them that way, likely because you were told that they mean that. The concept of gay people didn't exist at the time this was written.

Theologians have just reverse-engineered it.

there is no way I could have condemned something that they had no concept of. That's like the Bible condemning transistors.

No it doesn't. That's how it's interpreted based on modern understanding. It couldn't have possibly translated to homosexuality, any more than it could translate to jet engine. The concept of homosexuality didn't exist therefore there was no word for it. It came into being at the beginning of the 20th century.

One of us needs a course in New Testament Greek. For me it would be a refresher one.

So it’s a sin. Bible also mandated death for cursing a parent, not being a virgin on the night of her wedding, looking back at Sodom, and picking up sticks on the Sabbath (would that apply to caddies?), and contempt of court (you listening, Arpaio?) The authors spent a lot of time in the sun.
