On September 13, 2004, The Cowsills (1967-1972/1979-1980/1990-2004) gathered at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles to perform a benefit concert for their oldest brother Billy who was battling a series of illnesses and injuries including spinal decay and emphysema. "The Rain, The Park & Other Things" was the first song in a 17 song set. The band here included Susan, John, Barry, Paul, Bob, Richard, Ryan, and Brendan Cowsill. On the original recording, Billy sang lead. Bob sings lead here. Billy would succumb to emphysema in February, 2006. Barry Cowsill would perish almost exactly one year after this concert when he drowned in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. These days John Cowsill is the drummer and vocalist in the Beach Boys touring Band and is married to Vicki Peterson of the Bangles. Susan Cowsill went solo after 2005 and also collaborated with many artists. She is married to the drummer of this concert Russ Broussard (Paul Simon/Robert Palmer/Ian Mathews). The rest of the Cowsill clan pursued other interests in the music industry including writing, recording, and producing. Although it wasn't included in this video, actress Shirley Jones (The Partridge Family) welcomed the band onstage. It was the first time they had ever met. The Partridge Family was a television sitcom (1970-1974) loosely based on the real-life musical family the Cowsills. I'm not a fan of the Cowsills, but I do enjoy this iconic late 60's song of theirs.

A new video posted by AC/DC...always a good sign!

Strange song...wonder how Ledbetter came about since that is one of my family names...one you don't hear too often...

Here's the unofficial meaning of the song and where they got the name Ledbetter:

The band used a sort of play-on-words and combined his last name with “yellow letter” to create the title “Yellow Ledbetter”. Huddie Ledbetter, or Leadbelly, was a famous blues musician in the 1940’s. He was famous for not only his great voice and talent on the guitar, but for his songs about issues that were going on during his time as an artist.(Bio.com) He just happens to be the personal guitar idol of Pearl Jam’s guitarist, Mike Mcready.
