What 'America first' means: Only the US gets Coronavirus cure

The US might be the worst country in the world at handling the virus, but it's used its power to secure the world's entire supply of a key drug for a vaccine. That's world leadership. Trust us with power.

US buys up world stock of key Covid-19 drug remdesivir | US news | The Guardian

Soooo, our government takes a step to help with the growing numbers of at-risk Americans and those who are under treatment...and yet somehow this is a "bad thing?"

We are also pushing for a viral vaccine at record pace. If successful, would that mean we should give it to everyone else before we treat our own citizens with it?

IMO we need to stop depending on overseas methods of production (especially medicines in China) and make sure we take care of Americans first. Then when WE have a handle on it and are stabilized, share it as freely as we can with the rest of the world.

I think other nation's should be doing the same.

Meanwhile, I certainly expect opponents of the current Administration to turn this into the most negative spin possible. Clearly another "damned if we do, and damned if we don't" propaganda effort.

You are mistaken to believe there must be a first and then the rest when it comes to health care especially in the common fight against Covid-19. Everyone in all countries ought to be helped at the same time. The Americans used to know how to do this at one time such as the remedy for polio pioneered by Jonas Salk of New York to whom the world owes a great debt. Sadly, Donald Trump has changed American values.

Not really.

I am dealing with the American political situation. One where if Trump didn't do this he'd be hit with he isn't doing enough to take care of Americans, while if he DID do it he'll be hit with attacks about insensitivity to the plight of others.

No matter what he does, it will be portrayed by most of our Media as the very worst decision possible.

Well I am also an America First advocate, in that I believe in my country and not in some socialist ideal of Globalist hegemony.

So if Trump is going to take a hit either way? I'd prefer he take the hit of putting Americans first.

Not much can-do spirit left either.

I believe that generosity is not in today's big pharm. Everything is about profit.

If that's true? Then IMHO lay the blame on the divisive, anti-American socialist agenda permeating our educational system over the last 40+ years.

An agenda I've personally observed, which derides the ideal of "American Exceptionalism." Replacing it with "grievance political thought." The new ideal seems to be that everyone is somehow owed everything they need and want simply because they were born here. Absent the "work for it" ethic.

Sad to read such poison.
