WeWork bans meals with meat as a work expense

This is only one step away from treating meat consumption like smoking. Imagine mandatory "meat cessation programs". This is just one more example showing how the left is hostile to personal choice unless it fits their agenda.

The company has every right to do this, and I am sure their employees are most of the same mind, anyway.

Anyone who feels put upon by a company not paying for their choice of protein probably needs a healthy dose of perspective.

Legally, sure. I just hope they communicate this during the interview process. It's a good indicator of the cultural Marxism one can expect when dealing with the company.

They aren't firing people for eating meat on their own time, the company policy is that their catered meals will be pescatarian and they won't reimburse meals that contain meat.

Where's that "first world problems" meme when I need it?

"research that shows vegetarianism is even better for the environment than driving a hybrid car"

That research would be wrong.

It goes beyond explicit policies. I knew about a manager that made it a point to know what kind of vehicle an applicant drives. If it's a V8, you may as well immediately walk out of the interview. These kinds of idiocy are actually useful. It communicates what kind of a company you will deal with.

They would hate me with my '60s and '70 gas burning polluting monsters, that I use as my daily drivers.

No. it is not. This is one company not letting employees force them to pay for meals with meat. Although it seems like a stupid idea on the surface. It probably did this to save $$$$ which it needs badly.

What do you think costs more, a meat plate or a vegetarian or Vegan plate?

It is my understand an expense account is used to take clients out ot eat to create more business.

How is it going to go over when the employee has to tell the client he can't have anything with meat on the dish?

If I was the client, I would walk away from the crazy people that told me that.

I don't think it will be good for business.

What about free food don't people get?

I disagree with this action. However, blaming it on "the left" is pure partisan hackery.

What about free food don't people get?

I don't know. It's a puzzler.

I guess there will always be a kind of person who will show up to a free lunch and bitch about spread...

And it is usual that an employee would disagree with some of what the employer asks us to legally do. The question is - what does a grownup do when he works for and employer that he disagrees with.

I would be hard pressed to find an individual that agrees with all of his bosses decision. So the question is...how does the decision really effect you,

"research that shows vegetarianism is even better for the environment than driving a hybrid car"

That research would be wrong.

Well if your usual car is 10 ten ton semi and you switch to a Prius....perhaps that would be more impactful than if you switched to vegetarian.

But the typical meat eating American would likely make a bigger difference in going vegan than switching to a Prius.

I've seen employers become more & more controlling of their employees over the decades. And I think it's getting ridiculous. The term is "employee", not "indentured servant".

Sounds like we need a good dose of government regulation, right?
That's quite "libertarian"
pftttt!! who am I kidding, more like conservative.

"Libertarian-Left" is the closest available lean available on the forum to describe "social democrat", which probably is closest to my societal politics --> think "Bernie". I'm definitely not "Libertarian", though I once selfishly & naively flirted with it in my twenties.

(I'm conservative in my private life)

And yes, I think employment (in larger organizations) needs to be regulated. Absolutely. Besides unions, government is the only power equalizer to corporate power.

To produce the vegetables it takes a a lot of pesticides and a lot of death to whatever animal close to those plants.

I would bet it was not greener at all to produce the vegetarian meal than a meat eaters meal.

You would be wrong.

Nobody is telling these people to stop eating meat - they are saying if you are eating it, pay for it yourself.

So supplying an expense account but saying it cannot include meat is being a bully?

Dude, seriously? You are calling someone a bully...yet you are the one talking about punching.:lamo

I imagined that I was reasonably clear.

Cows also require pesticides.

Cows also require pesticides.

For the food that they eat...yes frequently pesticides and hormones and antibiotics --- oh my!

I imagined that I was reasonably clear.

Correct. Only in your imagination was this true.

In his imagination it is ok make accusations of being a bully for making a policy at the same time he thinks punching was appropriate.

Dude has a wild imagination.

I dont know what you mean about punching but I do know that what you call "Policy" I call an abuse of power.

Be very clear on that point.

What do you suppose will happen to the WeWork employee that buys a big hunk of brisket and eats it at his desk? Have you heard of the expression "managed out"?

That's kind of like when a company or public school decides to have company or school Christian prayer every morning and Jewish and Muslim employees or students decide not to participate. Singled out by omission and ostracized for non-participation. Does it happen? You ****ing-a betcha.

Wrong is wrong every time, always. Who or what are you going to stand for?

Bullies need to be punched in the nose.

I dont know what you mean about punching but I do know that what you call "Policy" I call an abuse of power.

Be very clear on that point.

You were the one that brought up violence.

They are offering free food as long as it is not meat. That sounds abusive to you? Really?

They are not forbidding the employee from ingesting meat. They just are not paying for it.

"Mommy, he gave me a free cookie, but I wanted a cupcake....so I punched him.....did I do good mommy?"

My brother used to travel a lot for business....and he could expense out his own meals up to a certain daily amount. He never bought meals for clients. I think that is highly common.
