[W:549] Nfl 2018

Everything I've read about Alex Smith over the years said he was a great guy, and his teammates loved him. He is a stand-up man.

Reading what he is going through now is upsetting. I pray and hope for the best for him..
More and more I watch football less and less. What happened to Smith and so many others is a key factor driving that decision.

I hear you. But it's always been a violent game. The injury rate for the players is 100%, always has been.

Smith knew what he was getting into. I just hope he's OK..

I hardly watch any games all the way through; I’ll check scores and read some articles. I know that players/workers should have the same opportunities as everyone else in the work-force. This dates me somewhat, but my peak interest was in the period 1985-1995. During that time the NFLPA came up with an agreement that freed up the players to shop their talents to the highest bidder. What happened was that teams that used to have a familiar roster for a few years, went to a “revolving door” roster. The team chemistry was affected and for me the money aspect of the game, although always there, came much more to the forefront. I don’t mind being fleeced so much, so long as it is done with a little class and deflection. A little foreplay, so to speak........

The business side of the NFL is ugly enough. Billions in profits made off people with short careers. Biggest money making sport, lowest paid players who can be cutting mid-contract. I can go on.

But none of that is as ugly as the sense I get now that football has become a real life version of the 70’s film “Rollerball.” They even have a “Jonathan.” His name is Tom Brady.

Three cheers to me for playing Henry in my flex position!

Jags might as well tear it down and start all over. What a disaster. They mailed it in last night.

Anyone with insomnia should watch the Giants vs. Redskins on Sunday. Eli against Mark Sanchez. What a snooze fest.

he only took a knee with him during their games together

Rightly or wrongly, Colin Kaepernick carries the entire weight of the anthem kneeling on his shoulders and his shoulders alone. He is the poster child for an issue that is incredibly divisive to this day and he will always hold that position. Couple that with his cop/pig socks and other actions/symbols and he has done nothing to rehabilitate his career, fully expecting, again rightly or wrongly, that he owes no apology and thus those who run the teams in the league aren't interested in giving him a second chance. Finally, when you are suing an organization you can't reasonably expect that organization to offer you employment.

Kaepernick has made his own bed and now he must sleep in it.

again, it worked for eric reid
your posts insist on ignoring the facts

Reid remained a starter wherever he was. CK lost his starting job in SF.

No. CK, who I was NEVER a fan of looooog before this nonsense started, even after he lost he starting job was better than a Mark Shachez..And about a 1/2 dozen other QB's currently playing.

His 'crime' is being a QB and the face of kneeling Black guys.

He's just another unemployed back-up QB.

Thats pretty much it. Kaepernick is the face of the whole movement. Too much baggage for any team to hire him. That's reality at this point.

You mean like the guys the Redskins just picked up this past week? But chances are CK is MUCH better than either of those 'backups'..

Don't pretend you don't know what's going. The Redskins situation cements it.

In regards to Colin Kaepernick, isn’t he currently the plaintiff in a lawsuit against the NFL? Is it really a surprise that he is overlooked for jobs in an organization that he is suing?

I don't think anyone here is denying that one of the reasons he isn't getting a job is the reason you stated, and the fact that he is the face of the protests.

What some of us are saying is when the NFL, and others are saying he isn't getting picked-up by some team is because he isn't 'good enough'. That's BS, the Redskins actions this week prove that.

No the Redskins’ actions do not prove what you state. The Redskins’ actions prove that an organization that you are suing is not likely to hire you.

Yeah, maybe I wasn't clear because that's what I said. The Skins picked up 2 guys who were NOT as good as CK because of the suit and the protests. The fact they picked up 2 lesser talents proves CK not getting an NFL job has nothing to do with talent.

Correct, but if those guys they picked up were currently plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the NFL, they wouldn’t have been hired.

Again, I agree. We seem to be talking in circles now. I'm just pointing out that many 'experts' in the media and in the NFL are DENYING that is the reason(s)..

The reason RG3 failed as QB in Washington is that he never mastered the reads and progressions which are integral to the modern passing game. For a time his speed covered that up, but that doesn't work forever. CK had the same issue; the Redskins have seen this movie before and don't need to see it again.

So did Mark Sanchez. Wait until you get a load of his misreads.
