[W:305]Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

Then she doesn't want to commit to any timeline for testifying, she doesn't know when she will testify, she just knows not at any of the times that have been offered her. Then there is the vague condition that they have to ensure that "she is safe" as if there isn't security there. So that could mean anything. Also, Kavanaugh can't be present anywhere, like how he would if this was happening in an actual court, if she had brought charges.

So no....she hasn't agreed to testify without an FBI investigation because she hasn't actually agreed to testify at all yet.

Um she has agreed to testify this Thursday.

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

What would you do if he pleads the fifth???

What would you like for me to do if he does? Please tell me what the correct response would be.

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

That's what I'm asking you. Should a SCOTUS nominee be trusted if he pleads the fifth???

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

Ford's conditions are ridiculous, and have gone through various phases of ridiculousness the entire time. The first was not wanting to give any testimony at all without an FBI investigation.

Yes, completely ridiculous to want to go on the record in an FBI investigation along with the other alleged eye witnesses! Crazy talk! What good could it possibly do to have trained investigators interview those allegedly involved, evaluate the statements, and...investigate? Better to leave it all in the hands of partisan Senate staffers, obviously.....

After all, it's just a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court we're talking about!

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

He could be PROVEN a liar. Quite easily.

Good luck with that

If it happens, I will call senators to have his vote moved to no

If not, are you willing to do the opposite?

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

There is something particularly odious about someone who never had so much as the slightest inclination to believe someone who accused a politician on the right creating a thread challenging people to explain why they "should" believe the accusation, as if to make a show of being fair and balanced. And as always, the OP pre-emptively accuses everyone who doesn't find suspicious what the OP says is suspicious "partisan".

PS: some people need to remind themselves that accusations ARE evidence if the victim is making that accusation under oath. If this woman testifies, the "no evidence" line will disappear.

And the people pretending to care about that? Well, let's just say I don't recall any threads ever being created by them for the purpose of exploring the thousands and thousands of sexual assault and other such cases resolved by victim testimony.

PSS: This isn't a criminal trial, so invoking proof beyond a reasonable doubt is disingenuous. Nevermind that even in a criminal trial, a single eyewitness testimony is sufficient to convict.

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

That is the worst case possibility. Leftists from the Obama spy network nailed Flynn for not getting his account completely straight about something he did that was not even illegal. Comey nailed Martha Stewart for appearing to be lying because she denied committing a crime she was never charged with committing. Mueller wants to get Trump to give him a sworn statement he can comb through looking for discrepancies, even though the Obama FBI never asked Hillary for a sworn statement when interviewing her for the first time only after prematurely declaring her innocent.

One piece of evidence is all it takes. One paper trail, one used condom filled with his DNA, two more women, one beer receipt, one picture, one video. I believe she has the evidence, I do not believe she is lying, but if she is I will admit she lied about the story. I just don't see that realistically happening.

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

That's not how it happened.

Women who organized and signed it say it was a rapid response by a social network that endures decades after they graduated. They say it was easy to mobilize: a chain of friends calling, texting and emailing friends from a Washington-area world where many still live and see each other.

I got my GED early at the age of 15 just to go to the community college at 16. The people I can recall in Middle School and Junior High School is NOBODY. I'm 52 years old and around the same age as both parties. Remember, he went to a all male high school and knowing 65 women from different high schools -- you cannot get that many in just a few days. In fact, you need a full staff finding these women because the vast majority have gotten married and have a different last name. My few stands, they know Dr Ford was out there and that is the reason for the vast amount of research.

The I wasn't there crap is an excuse directly out of all cases of frat boy misconduct and has been used in a variety of different ways in the defense cases of Weinstein, Lauer, Rose, Trump and the lesser figure heads etc...

So everyone is lying except Ford?

Just because you didn't remain in contact with friends from school certainly does not mean others have not. It's pretty arrogant to think everyone must have did as you, or they are lying.

It's not the FBI's jurisdiction to investigate the matter, it would be the state's job. Even then, it's most likely to be misdemeanor sexual assault (even if 100% believed) and is outside the statute of limitations (different than felonious sexual assault).

Further, giving testimony doesn't no prohibit any other investigation from occurring so that condition is purely arbitrary. News flash, it's not a life-ling appointment if you get recalled, which is an option to take if the claims are founded via investigations later on.

As it stands right now, her claim may not even make it to a court as there is literally so little to go on it would be dismissed. So yes...when your position is as weak as her's is...any conditions you want to add is ridiculous. Doubly so for holding off on it for so long when everyone knew about it while the actual Kavanaugh hearings were taking place.

So yeah...your statement seems rational if you completely divorce it from any context of reality and recent history.

Tell us ALL about it. And then tell us ALL about how YOU always believed Clinton’s accusers and never supported him, or his wife who spent 4 decades attacking her husbands victims.

****, dood...did your keyboard catch fire when you typed that ridiculous ****?

I am not sure about Dr Ford. But, a person that said no it did not happen does not want to talk to the FBI -- because lying to the FBI is 5 years in prison -- nor does he want to talk to the committee because lying is a prison sentence too. Dr Ford want to go on the record with the FBI. That impresses me, as she is willing to go to prison for 5 years.

I don't know. Has this ever happened? Is there precedent?

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

Well? Why should I? She has provided absolutely no proof of her allegations. She's mentioned two other people that were there and both have denied it happened. She says she can't remember the house that it happened at. She can't remember when it happened. No one else has come out against Kavanaugh on this having actually happened or a separate instance of it happening. One woman says that she "heard a rumor" but has denied knowing if anything actually happened. She has repeatedly tried to stall the testimony hearing making ridiculous demands such as not allowing Kavanaugh in the room and demanding that he testify first. Demands which obviously are intended to simply push the date of the hearing back farther and farther.

And then there is the suspicious nature of when and how this was released. Her history was scrubbed. She took a lie detector test in July. Wrote and sent Feinstein a letter in July. Hired lawyers at the beginning of August. Yet...doesn't come out until AFTER the confirmation hearings are done and over with THIS month. Surely even the most partisan of partisans could admit that such looks suspicious.

So...why should I believe Ms. Ford?

Let me tell you a story of why women don't report being sexually harassed. A friend of mine had a daughter that was being sexually harassed at school. She reported it, her parents went to school and asked why nothing was being done and got the same old boys will be boys. So finally when the young man grabbed her on the butt again, she turned around and slugged him in the gut right in front of a teacher who saw the whole thing happen. The young man's parents went to school and complained the the girl was disciplined, but not the boy. She was disciplined for hitting the boy after he grabbed her by the butt right in front of a teacher and the girls parents were told we can't have children hitting each other, never mind the sexual harassment the girl had been going through for months. And that my friend is why even today, women don't report those things as in the end they get blamed, whether it is hitting back, what they wear or where they are at the time. So believe as you want bout this woman who was 15 at the time. She knew if she reported it she would be ostracized , by her class mates for ratting and blamed for the whole thing for either being at the party or what she wore. And 35 years ago it was even worse than it is today, but today is not good.

Re: Why should I believe Dr. Ford?

Uh...wut?

Yeah. What don't you understand about that sentence? I never said he was a rapist. I don't know what to say but try reading it again?

"You should also not want to take the chance of putting a rapist on the SC for political expediency."

So...why should I believe Ms. Ford?

Let me try to answer this. I was raped my first year of college. I did something stupid and allowed myself to hang out with some drunk dudes. I do not remember the exact date. I do not remember the exact location, just that it was in someone’s dorm room. I don’t even remember the guy’s last name, just his first name and who he was. I don’t even remember exactly who else was there, I can name one person confidently. I wanted to forget about the incident so badly and put it out of my thoughts. Subconsciously I let myself forget about all of those surrounding details. I remember the act of him raping me though, and I still have nightmares of it. This was about 13 years ago. So imagine 30 + years I can imagine her memory of the exact details is even more fuzzy. But I’m sure she remembers the exact man who TRIED to rape her (attempted rape is still a crime). So while many people don’t believe her and can’t even fathom that this happened to her, I have a similar story as her, and I don’t remember many of the details. So yes it’s possible she is telling the truth and she really was sexually assaulted.

A plausible reason is that the additional witnesses saw Dr. Ford receiving death threats from the Trump base, and did not want to have the same thing happen to themselves and their families, so they lied to the media.

There are undoubtedly a number of other plausible reasons, but taking the chance of putting a lying rapist on the SC in the name of political expediency is disgusting behavior by my moral compass.
