Re: Shameless: Trump lies to troops about pay raises

He can't make Congress give them 10%... if he asks for it and they say no what do you suggest that he do? This is how our Country works... sorry you want a dictator, I don't.

He didn't ask for the raise....

Annual pay is roughly $100B, so it would cost $10B per year, for 10 years, plus increase the base pay on which future raises are based, so let's call it $150B over 10 years. He didn't ask for it because the adults in the room either ignored any "request" the moron some call POTUS threw out in between Tweets or had to sit him down and explain that it's not possible to do with the current budget.

Proof?

You're admitted several times it wasn't in the WH budget request - that's the proof. The only 'request' that matters is the formal one, with numbers, costs attached.

What you're trying to credit him with is the "it's the thought that counts!!!" BS. That's not the way competent adults behave as POTUS. Requesting a 10% raise across the board requires trade-offs, a big hit to the deficit or cost cutting elsewhere in the Pentagon budget or in some other department. Those are Big Boy decisions - hard ones. You want to treat him like a kid who asks for a new Porsche for his 16th birthday and daddy has to tell him, "no, son, that would cost more than the house so you'll have to do with the used F-150..." Trump is the damn POTUS. We don't have to pretend he's the functional equivalent of a spoiled teenager when evaluating what he does. He is that, but the bar doesn't get lowered just because he's a pathetic, ignorant, lying idiot.

He actually sounds like a politician...

But he lied here.... He didn't request 10% - he made that up.

Proof?

One who's a serial liar and narcissist, I guess.

Was it in the WH budget request? No. That's how the President of the United States requests a raise. An offhand comment while he's on the toilet Tweeting doesn't actually count....

First... OK

Second... pretty fair statement. And funny... :)

The proof:

"They said: 'You know, we could make it smaller. We could make it 3 percent. We could make it 2 percent. We could make it 4 percent.' I said: 'No. Make it 10 percent. Make it more than 10 percent,'" Trump told the troops.

Trumps stupidity in this area was exhibited to a lesser degree a year before when he had asked for a 2.1% pay raise that was .3% below the 2.4% level mandated by federal law. Following are excerpts from the article in the link further below:

If Congress had backed Trump’s plan for a 2.1 percent pay raise, the 0.3 percent drop from the mandated level would have saved Pentagon planners $200 million next year and $1.4 billion over the next five years. Now, that money instead will go into troops’ wallets.

The mark is 0.3 percent above what President Donald Trump and the Pentagon had requested.

But the 2.4 percent figure is also the mark mandated as the standard pay raise under federal law.

Trump’s pattern is to increase both the frequency and severity of his lies. He is constantly trying to outdo himself to assure that he maintains more attention than anyone or anything else happening each and every day. This pattern of sucking-up all the air in the room was established well before he began his presidential campaign. But his supporters only saw the wonderful new clothes on this naked king and purposely chose ignorance and do so to this day.

You have not proven any lie... you are just stating there is a lie and then compounding that error by saying that their is an increase in frequency and severity...
