my whole thing is.. abortion is a distraction issue. basically, it's Trump's favorite kind of issue. anything that can distract the masses away from his detrimental policies.

But, thing is, okay, if I'm going to concede on abortion, you can ban it. What are you going to give me in return? I'm conceding something that goes against my fundamental beliefs that eccentric religious beliefs shouldn't be legislated and that it is oppressive to all women. What do I get back?

It's Trump's favorite kind of issue because he knows that there is a significant number of voters who focus only on that one issue, and don't care about anything else. They call themselves "Christians," but are willing to vote for a man who embodies the polar opposite of what Christianity says a man should be, simply because they think he will appoint "conservative" judges who might overturn Roe V. Wade.

But, if the SCOTUS ever did overturn that decision, the issue of abortion would go back to the states and the self described "conservatives" running for federal office wouldn't have that handy issue to use to garner votes any more.

Look at how many other issues he's done a 180 on. For Don supporters, then doesn't exist, only now...

Even before the primaries, I listen to Trump take one stance one day, the complete opposite the next only to deny taking any stances at all on the third. That told me right then that what ever Trumps says, put no stock into it. It's just like switching his political parties eight times. I firmly believe Trump doesn't know what he is or what he stands for and if the truth be told has no political ideology or philosophy. I think his only philosophy was that of an opportunist willing to change parties, stances, whatever to what gave him an advantage then and now.

No, his "policy" position didn't change. He didn't have a "policy" 20 years ago when he was a real estate developer. He was also a father/role model well before 1999. In 1999 his son Junior was 22 years old (after he was raised by nannies when his father left his mother for a much younger woman - that kind of a role model father you mean?).

Most people hate abortion. The difference is that, before he liked choice. Now he hates choice as well. He has done a complete 180 on the subject, from adamantly pro choice to adamantly pro life. He re made himself into some caricature of the right wing "conservative" movement, adopting every position that the dittoheads take. That got him elected, as not many saw through his con job.

Trump is not a nuanced messenger.

In my personal case, I also hate abortion and I believe that any abortion demanded by any woman ends a human life. I hold objections on a moral basis.

I also do not want to personally care for every unwanted child born to every woman who demands an abortion. As a result, I support the genocidal abortion on demand approach embraced by our society.

It's a close call for me. Very, very close. I am right on the line leaning to the direction that I have chosen for the reason I have stated.

If I changed my "position" tomorrow, it would not be a 180 degree turnaround. It would be about a 2 degree course adjustment.

Unlike you, I cannot see into the souls of others. Trump changed his policy position. He hated abortion before and he hates it now.

I suspect that his change was similar in degree to mine if it happens. About a 2 degree course correction.
