Citizens and their elected representatives are allowed to remove and erect statues that accurately portray the sentiments of the area. I would argue that vigilante's toppling statues is wrong, but a governor who was elected by the people, legally removing a statue that many feel doesn't accurately represent the sentiments of the citizens is a good thing.
