Venezuela crisis: Juan Guaidó's chief of staff detained

Lets see.

Maduro has:

Jailed some of his political opposition.
Attempted to jail others of his political opposition.
Forbidden desperately needed aid.
Maduro controversially set up a new constituent assembly with the power to rewrite the constitution, or to bypass and even dissolve the opposition-led National Assembly.

Its beginning to look a lot like Dictatorship.

You forgot "allows his military to kill unarmed civilian protesters."

Dictators tend not to have free elections and the support of the lowest rung of society

Juan Guaido ( read Juan white man ) has the interests of ruling white elite whose loyalty is to money and the US

You have no business there and would scream like Banshees if your own political system was usurped by Latin Americans to install someone they wanted,

But hey , there's no law against being a hypocrite. :)

What people are overlooking is that Guaido himself is a socialist and is affiliated with the Socialist International. People should question the wisdom of fighting to replace a socialist with another socialist.

Allegations of American mercenaries in Haiti or allegations of American mercenaries in Venezuela? I can do Haiti but not Venezuela, thus the phrase "I wonder".

A favorite conspiricist convention. Investigation and critical thinking always trump 'wonder'.

Regarding Guaido aide Roberto Marrero.....

Venezuela Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez said:
"Roberto Marrero was the ringleader of a plot to bring hitmen from Central America to Venezuela to carry out assassinations."

He offered no proofs and no names and stated this on state television, a favorite tactic of dictatorial regime's to shape the political narrative for the populace.

Rogue Valley:

Minister Jorge Rodriguez apparently did present evidence backing up the Venezuelan Government's allegations.

Venezuela lays out accusations against Guaido's top aide

Whether you believe it or not is a different matter. The interogatuon of Mr. Marrero apparently has led to the arrest of a Columbian paramilitary leader and crime-boss operating inside Venezuela who was organising and commanding a campaign of destabilisation and planned assassinations in Venezuela.

Maduro announces arrest of Colombian paramilitary leader - Xinhua | English.news.cn

If these allegations have legs and if Juan Guaido had knowledge of what Mr Marreo is alleged to have done, then Guaido should be arrested for conspiracy, sedition and treason and prosecuted accordingly.

As to the twelve persons held by Venezuela (some American citizens, some permanent residents and all apparently also Venezuelan citizens), six are Citgo executives accused of trying to set up about $4 billion dollars of loan guarantees using a 50% ownership in the Venezuelan state-owned oil company as collateral for the loans, which is apparently strictly illegal under Venezuelan law. If those loans were defaulted on the by Citgo, then the Venezuelan government would have lost control of the state-owned company to Citgo's creditors.

Another American is being held on gun-related charges but has been ordered released by Venezuelan courts. The Venezuelan Government is defying its own courts and is refusing to release the man, thus the Venezuelan Government is acting illegally in the case of this detention. I can find nothing substantive on the other five detainees.

Cheers.

The Russians used the "screen-shot-intercepted-telephone-conversation" tactic to blame Ukraine in regards to the MH17 shoot down. We know how that worked out.

Move along.

I find it both stunning and sad that you place any stock in the Nicholas Maduro regime. Bashar al-Assad and Omar al-Bashir also? Did you cry for Radovan Karadzic during his trial in the Hague?

I've come to the conclusion that you will embrace just about any debris circling about the toilet bowl.

It's no longer productive exchanging posts with you.

Defense of dictator noted.

Pathetic predictable answer

Is recognizing a legal interim President "meddling"? Is providing needed humanitarian aid "meddling"?

Guaido is a known US proxy , he went to the US just prior to announcing himself as president and has returned there in the aftermath of the turmoil that decision has caused

You choose a man that has already ADMITTED IN A CONGRESSIONAL HEARING that he used humanitarian missions to ship arms to a foreign state to be Special Representative for Venezuela since Guaido tried to usurp power. A man that claimed a massacre in El Salvador carried out by US trained troops was " communist propaganda "

That's why Maduro and co are refusing US " aid " but are and have been accepting from elsewhere

venezuelanalysis said:
Merida, February 11, 2019 (venezuelanalysis.com) – The International Red Cross has declined to participate in the Washington’s controversial humanitarian aid plan to Venezuela, it was announced this weekend.

“We will not be participating in what is, for us, not humanitarian aid,” stated Colombia’s International Red Cross (ICRC) spokesperson, Christoph Harnisch.

That meddling , what gives you the right ? And , would you accept the same being done to the US by Venezuela that is being done to Venezuela by the US ?

So you don't want aid and prefer a dictatorship.

Got it.

No, people should allow VENEZUELANS to sort out their own affairs.

They should also recognize that the US is probably illegally trying to bring the country to its knees through sanctions

UN Special Rapporteur for sanctions Idriss Jazairy says that the United States' attempt to topple the Venezuelan government with an oil embargo is illegal and will have grave humanitarian consequences.

Another pathetic response to the information I gave in the post this isn't even a credible reply to

You don't " get " anything you just make a fool of yourself with ridiculous comments like the above because it is actually your own positions that are the most immoral , hypocritical , devoid of mature content etc etc

Adult debate is just a bridge too far for you imo

Rogue Valley:

Do I approve of President Maduro? No. Do I approve of Juan Guaido and his Venezuelan backers? No. Do I approve of foreign imposed regime change? No. Do I approve of the rank hypocracy of cozying up to murderous right-wing Latin American governments as allies to remove a bad left-wing government and replace it with a potentially more murderous right-wing government? No.

The Venezuelan people and only the Venezelan people should be making the changes needed to their own government by either constitutional and democratic means until those options are exhausted or by open rebellion by a majority of the demos. Juan Guaido and his backers represent a small sliver of the Venezuelan polis and they will have to reprogramme, jail and kill too many Venezuelans to ever have a hope of being elected by the Venezuelan people. What right do you, the governments of simultaneously neo-liberal and neo-conservative America, oligarchical Western Europe, fascist Brazil and authoritarian Columbia have to force changes on Venezuela when 86% of the population does not want your foreign intervention? They do want change but they don't want outsiders to force the change. The answer is the oil business as has been said or reported to have been said by John Bolton and President Trump.

Chavismo promotes economic nationalism and Chavistas have made the choice to cooperate with Russia and China; therefore Chavismo must be eliminated in the Western Hemisphere, in the minds of American business and political elites defending status quo economic, political and military hegemony. That elimination will be bloody and repressive in the extreme (as it has been all over Latin America in the past when the US has forced regime change) and neither you, nor President Trump, nor Mike Pence, nor John Bolton, nor Elliott Abrams, nor Thersa May, nor Emmanuel Macron nor any non-Venezuelan have any right or legitimacy in plunging Venezuela into an even deeper pit of despair than Maduro and Trump have already dug for it.

To sum up, three powerful words from Latin America's past -"Yanqui, Go Home?". Bigger off and let the Venezuelans solve their own constitutional crisis while you lot sort out your own crises in your own countries. If I could spit online in disgust at this rank hypocracy of the West, you would hear that now.

Cheers.
