Unholy Ingredients: Taking a closer look at the sin-by-association supply chain.

We didn't write the Bible. We just preach and teach the Bible.

24. And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. 1 Kings 14.

Are all sins equal in God's eyes?

Is there a ranked sin list in the bible?

I know there are sects which endorse abortion, sexual immorality, drunkenness and so forth. There were sects a hundred or more years ago which endorsed slavery also, but those are not the denomination I belong to.

The same sect that supported slavery in the 1850s and racism in the 1950s is the very same one who opposes LGBT equal rights. You know them as Baptists/SBC.

What did Jesus say about LGBT people if this was such an important issue?

Our laws are not based on the Bible so you cannot force others to obey your religious commands. If you cannot trwat gay people in a respectful manner then I suggest that you go work for your church.

The sect I belong to never endorsed slavery, homosexual marriage, hatred of those who are different, whether color, nationality, religion, political party or something else, or abortion.

Christians are not trying to pass current laws opposing sodomy, sodomites are trying to pass laws opposing what God said about sodomy.

The Bible tells marke to love everyone.

I was taught that there are mortal and venial sins. The seven deadly sins are also ranked. I guess that it depends on what the minister is mad about that Sunday and what claim puts the most money on the collection plate.

Lawrence v Texas. The conservatives in Texas did try to make sex between consenting adults illegal. The SCOTUS said, "Not so fast".

What your god says about sodomy is irrelevant in US secular law. Your church can say what it wants and define who they will and will not marry but your religious views cannot be enforced as US civil law without violating the strict separation of church and state. If we would allow your church to legislate its beliefs as the law then we would either have to allow others religions to do the same in regard with their beliefs or we would violate the Free Exercise Clause of the 1st Amendment, as well as the Establishment Clause that creates a secular government with equal religious and secular rights for all people.

My god FSM thinks that you are an infidel for worshiping the wrong deity. Repent immediately or boil for your sins. We have sous-vide technology so this punishment could be eternal.

There are still crimes against nature on the books from way back. Lefties are not done removing old laws they do not like and replacing them with laws which are uncivilized.

They can be on the books but they cannot be enforced. Maryland, which was a Catholic colony, has a law claiming that politicians cannot be atheists but it cannot be enforced because of Article VI, Clause 3 of the US Constitution that bans any religious test for public office.

What is claimed to be civilized or moral is subjective to the person because of their own religious beliefs. The state cannot enforce morality because there are as many ideas of what is moral as there are of who is or isn't god. Muslims ban alcohol and pork, so should they be permitted to force you to obey that law because of their religious beliefs?

Then preach and teach it right. Jesus said the most important command is to love God then love your neighbor as you love yourself. Everything else falls in line if those are obeyed.

Then why aren't you condemning adulterers? Why are you not out protesting the lack of laws punishing that?

Do you think I should be trying to get laws passed criminalizing drugs and alcohol as well?

If you think morality should be legislated, then if you persecute the people you think are gay-sinning then why not persecute all the rest? i.e. adultery, lust, fornication, drunkenness and the like.

We tried to criminalize alcohol with the 18th Amendment. The existence of the 21st said it didn't work. The drug war has been a very expensive and destructive failure. Criminalizing addictions doesn't work as a treatment or a social policy. You need to treat the underlying medical problem instead of trying to criminal a mental health/medical disorder.

There are pastors on YouTube who take the Bible literally and call for death for homosexuals.

He isn't the only religious dirtbag who supports this idea. Apparently, his bible doesn't have the 5th Commandment.
A Tennessee pastor who is also a detective said in a sermon this month that people who were lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender were “freaks” and “worthy of death,” comments that have prompted prosecutors to review cases he has investigated.

In the sermon, delivered on June 2, the pastor, Grayson Fritts, also called for the government to send a riot team to a Pride parade scheduled for June 22 in Knoxville. He said L.G.B.T. people should be arrested, tried, and if convicted, executed.

Well the Bible actually calls for death for homosexuals.

It calls for death for witches too....and condones slavery

Maybe that pastor could give a pro-slavery sermon next week?

The Bible also calls for people to care for migrants as themselves, but evangelicals ignore that like they do the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon On The Mount. These people are bigots who cherry-pick the bible for passages that support their bigotry and then try to hide their hypocrisy behind the constitutional religious protections of the 1st Amendment. Most of these supposed Christians ignore or even oppose 99% of the commands of Leviticus but they will never admit it, even if you rub their noses in it like a puppy who has an accident on the new carpet.

The tern White evangelical Christian is just a politically correct name for Dixiecrats.

Good post

Theists will also cherry pick what was said in the Sermon on the Mount.

The teachings of Jesus doesn't get any clearer than this passage from the Gospel of Matthew, but the religious conservatives will ignore it as if it doesn't exist if you throw it in their face. Jesus only matters to these bigots and hypocrites on Xmas and Easter.

If they were required to live by the teachings of the man that they claim to be the son of God and their personal savior they would claim to be victims of religious persecution. I am related to many of these hypocrites and I've seen it firsthand.

Matthew 7:12 New International Version (NIV)

12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

“All things you want men [or, people] to do to you, you should thus also do to them, for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12; Luke 6:31) Treating others like one would want to be treated has come to be known as the “golden rule.” Acting in harmony with it reflects a caring, loving, just, and compassionate disposition. The law given to Israel and the words of the prophets repeatedly stressed the need for acting impartially and with love and compassion. Therefore, Jesus could say that treating others in the manner in which one would want to be treated “is” or expresses the sum of the guidance set forth in the law and by the prophets.

You're overgeneralizing; it's not true that all evangelicals ignore Matthew 5. It's not true that all evangelicals are bigots. And just in case you're genuinely confused about the difference between the OT and the NT, that difference being Jesus, I have no obligation as a Christian to observe OT dietary or ritual purity laws. If you read a little bit further in Matthew, you'll learn what Jesus said about washing the outside of a cup while the inside remains dirty. ;)
