Trump's tariff letter to Carney

So this is interesting. These tariffs are across the board including energy, potash and auto parts which previously had lower tariff carve outs.

Now, the president seems to be taking the border-related tariffs a step further by promising a 35 per cent levy. The U.S. is currently imposing a 25 per cent tariff on all non-CUSMA compliant goods coming from Canada and a lower 10 per cent rate on energy and potash as part of a border-related tariffs regime.

"We will charge Canada a tariff of ..."

Trump agreed a few months ago that little girls can be happy with just two dolls for Christmas because Businesses and people in the US pay the tariffs. But he reverted and the bigly lie now is back that Canada pays the tariff, not the USA.

Depending on which study you read, US dairy producers receive between 40% and 70% of their farm gate income from govt subsidies. The US govt owns well over a billion lbs of cheese that it has made from the excess milk production that it has purchased to subsidise dairy farmers. They make the milk into cheese so it can be stored.

So while Trump on one hand bemoans the Chinese govt subsidising some of their industries, and uses massive tariffs supposedly to protect US industries from those Chinese govt subsidies, he on the other hand is angry that Canada (or anyone else) wants to protect their own industries from massive US govt subsidies? None of this is about fairness. None of this is about "reciprocal". It is all about Trump creating even more taxes for the US poor so that they can pay for more of his tax cuts for himself and the other US wealthy.

Here we go again! I have no idea what Carney will do but I suspect he will have to toss Trump a bone so Trump can claim victory. There is no dealing with an extortionist.

This man is a flat out lunatic if he thinks these ridiculous tariffs won't backfire big time on the US. The Dems really need to win the House on 2028 and put some reigns on this a$$hole.

Which is why tariff power, along with a few other presidential powers, need to be "reformed" & Congress given more control.
