Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

I'm wondering if it's usual for someone in a 'closed to the public meeting' to report to the pres, what is said. If you don't think this was a political move (aka, not really caring about immigrants) I've got a bridge to sell ya.

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

I'm not offended when some European or Canadian here on DP is ignorantly insulting of the United States, its government, its President, or its people, although I'm capable of finding the comments made offensive. There is a difference between being offended, personally, and finding a matter/comment to be offensive, if not to me personally.

As for your attempt to imply that I'm insensitive to any verbal attack on any individual person and would not consider such comments offensive, I find your attempt at insulting me to be highly offensive.

Insulting a government yes, being critical of aspects of a society/people, sure, why not (insulting is on the cusp of being unacceptable IMHO) but insulting the entire population of the US is just unfair.

But the issue is not when "someone from Europe or Canada" insults the people of a country, the issue is when the leaders of those country insult the entire US and it's people (for example by calling them a ****hole country) is very unacceptable and highly offensive.

I am a European and I would highly frown upon even a Dutch politician making such an attack on the US as a whole and would want him to apologize to the US/US population but if our prime minister would do something like that I would think that could be reason for what we call a parliamentary vote of disapproval and ordering him to apologize/retract his words or if he would refuse that a vote of dismissal in which he is in fact told by parliament to resign.

You cannot insult a country that you are friends with/have a diplomatic connection with by calling them a ****hole if you are the leader of a country. At least that is my opinion.

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

Ah, so those words “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore,” were just scratched into the Statue of Liberty by some Antifa punk? Gotcha.

Miss Liberty was originally intended as a monument to the principles of international republicanism, not conceived and sculpted as a symbol of immigration. Not till 1903 when the "New Colossus" was added was the meaning bastardized by some elitist, bleeding heart, socialite.

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

You liberals do that all the time. Trump wants immigrants who will benefit America not refugees from every ****hole on the planet. You may disagree, but that is what he is saying.

And that is EXACTLY why it's racist. Racism isn't just a hatred of people that look different than you do, it's also an assumption of racial superiority.

Conflating merit with country of origin is the definition of racism. Why would a Norwegian benefit the US more than a Haitian?

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

This has nothing to do with race or the perceived inhuman treatment of others.
We as a country have a right to let in those that we feel best to benefit us all as a whole.

Besides, mass immigration is in no way a possible fix for their problems, or ours for that matter.
These people who believe that the best way to increase their quality of life and the quality of America, is by doing this year round. Are fooling themselves to the most severe degrees.

I would rather we help them there, instead of displacing them here.

And white people from Norway help the US more than black people from Haiti how?

More in that we would most likely be getting more upstanding citizens. Ones that are more willing to pull their own weight and not commit crime, or even just be okay with sucking down welfare for the rest of their foreseeable lives.

They would both be given equal opportunities to achieve their goals of making a normal life here. Though my bet would be on the person who doesn't come from such a thoroughly ravaged country.

Then again my stance is that we help them there and not displace them at all.

We don't need more opinions from people living in ****hole states. Why can't we get more opinions from people who live in Connecticut?

See how that sounds?

Sounds a lot like something I’ve heard pretty commonly from some folks on the left. It definitely doesn’t sound like something those same folks would take issue with at all.

Seeing as that is your own opinion, I really don't care.

I chose Unprofessional, however 1 person said he said it, 2 said he didn't!

So I mean MSM making an entire narrative based on conjecture.

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

I don't want any immigrants from any Country! I want NO IMMIGRATION for the next few years I want to clean our house first.

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

Yes, he did. He took direct action against the words of Leviticus. And yet, you bring up Leviticus to criticize my 'hypocrisy.' Are you calling Jesus a hypocrite?

Is Jesus not above the Law?

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

Afraid to answer the question?

Vast majority did not come from England, but yes, even many of the English who came over were amongst the poorest. I suppose you never heard of an indentured servant.

I suppose immigration is perfectly fine when they are bringing disease and bloodshed to the native population so long as they are white.

Indentured servants were a minority and they were indentured to another colonist that had money.

It's not ok then.

Jesus set the example for everyone to follow.

Re: Trump's "sh**hole" comment it offensive because...

Another swing and a miss for apdst. Between a 1/2 and 2/3 of European immigrants from 1630 to the American Revolution were indentures (Indentured Servitude in the Americas, Galenson)

and they were indentured to another colonist that had money.

Irrelevant.

Yes, no immigration! I also hate smart people from other countries coming to ours and contributing!

I am okay with continuing to accept immigrants that come here legally, become US citizens the traditional way, learn our language, respect our laws and culture, and contribute. The ones who come here for free handouts, welfare entitlements, etc can go elsewhere. The democrats just want them as guaranteed votes.

If you're living in the distant past....Do you know why we had places like Ellis Island?

Vetting is our friend.
