Trump Uses Mount Rushmore Speech to Deliver Divisive Culture War Message

Argumentum ad absurdum.

Let's leave it to 50 state governors to figure out what we already paid the CDC to be the experts on. That's a winner.

See my other post. What is it they do? Do they manufacture test kits now? Do they also invent vaccines? Do they wipe people after they go? What is it you want this nanny state to do for you? Should they buy you a mask and kleenex too? You want a test? Go get one.No one is stopping you. Quit being a charge. Stop the dependency. Grow up, for crying out loud and quit your incessant whining.

Great speech? Last week he called the left Antifa. Now, he calls them fascists. We can’t be Antifa and fa at the same time.

ACtually you can. YOu don't seem to understand what facism is. go figure on that one.

a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

it is a philosophy so anyone can be a fascist in their own right. The left has clearly shown they want everyone subjugated under their rule with their own economic and social regimentation and they have no issue in implementing forced
suppression of oppositions #cancel culture.

I see the NYT has fully integrated its op-ed and factual reporting divisions into a single partisan "news" department. They should consider printing this on actual yellow paper.

He cannot unite a country where defending a flag that divided us. Racists, traitors, and losers fought for the confederacy.

trump want to unite a country around that message based on his tweet. I, like the majority of Americans, will not follow that lead.

Trump did not mention the Confederate flag in his speech. Of course that didn't stop the NYT from editorializing in a "news" story and calling it "divisive".

Oh please, he talked about "heritage" and "our history" and "deface our memorials." Those are code words for confederate monuments and confederate statues.

Code words? It's the 4th of July! It's a holiday literally ABOUT our heritage and our history!

As for defacing memorials, the dimwitted mobs are pulling down statues of more than Confederates. I'm talking Founding Fathers, US Grant, abolitionists, even ****ing Abraham Lincoln. Trump is right that this has to stop. It's creating a "broken window" effect that contributes to a sense of lawlessness and chaos.

If opposing rioting, looting and mindless mobs are divisive, then I know which side I'm on.

We learn who Trump was when he discriminated against blacks in the 1970s.
We learn who Trump was when He called for black teenagers to be executed for rape. They ended up being proven innocent.
We learn who Trump was when he called Nazis in Charlottesville ‘very fine people.’
We learn who Trump was when He questioned Obama’s birth certificate.
Trump has a long history of racism and this is a continuation of courting racists for political reasons.

Don't hurt yourself moving those goal posts.

The NYT called the speech divisive. Still waiting to hear what exactly was divisive in it.

trump could have been specific and differentiated about "our" heritage vs the racist, traitorous, and loser confederates.

He purposefully chose not to. He purposefully lumped it together to divide.

The tweet provides the evidence.

So you can't point to anything in the speech that was divisive either. Other than "he should have said this!", which is just you whining.

Thanks for sharing.

HOOKED ON PHONICS...

He specifically didn't differentiate

I said, "He purposefully chose not to. He purposefully lumped it together to divide."

So yes, the speech was divisive and that is what trump wants.

You don't have to say they are bad and we are good to be divisive. Smart people know exactly what trump wants.

He has declared the Confederacy is part of our American heritage. He doesn't want that taken away. Because a law and order country has people know their place.

You might argue whether or not it was divisive but if you can't pick out which parts people might take offense to (which is divisive, intentional or not) then there's no explaining it.

People can find anything divisive. "Have a nice day" can be taken as, "You're having a terrible day" if you have a big enough chip on your shoulder.

I just find it strange that no one can point to anything in the speech that was divisive. Trump did speak of stopping the rioting and vandalism. Surely THAT's not divisive! Who is in favor of rioting and vandalism?

Trump Uses Mount Rushmore Speech to Deliver Divisive Culture War Message

Down in the polls and failing to control a raging pandemic, the president cast himself as waging battle against a “new far-left fascism” that imperils American values and seeks to erase history.
...
With the coronavirus pandemic raging and his campaign faltering in the polls, his appearance amounted to a fiery reboot of his re-election effort, using the holiday and an official presidential address to mount a full-on culture war against a straw-man version of the left that he portrayed as inciting mayhem and moving the country toward totalitarianism.

Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values and indoctrinate our children,” Mr. Trump said, addressing a packed crowd of sign-waving supporters, few of whom wore masks. “Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities.

Lawyers are taught that when the law is on your side, pound the law; and when the facts are on your side, pound the facts -- and when neither the facts or law are on your side, pound the table. Trump's Mt. Rushmore speech is the equivalent of pounding the table, as his governance, such as it is, leaves America far worse and weaker than it was when he took over. That's why he needed to invent a straw-man enemy -- "far-left fascism," tearing down statutes of our founders {Confederate generals are our founders?}

An example of totalitarianism is HIS actions to use the wheels of government to punish his enemies, like those who testified before the Impeachment Hearings, and reward friends by allowing them to go free after committing high crimes.

The idea that Joe Biden is somehow a radical leftist is as silly as it sounds.
Only divisive if you hate America

HOOKED ON LOGIC

Not differentating is the opposite of divisiveness. If he had brought it up, then the speech would actually be divisive.

Only divisive if you hate America
This guy did nothing when Russia paid the Taliban to kill our soldiers; with his supporters silent, and we’re the ones that hate America?

Obama killed and maimed our soldiers in Afghanistan with his rules of engagement. Trump wants out of Afghanistan. Russia will be Russia. The NYT will be the NYT. You don't want to get your panties in a twist about anything they, the Times, report. More were killed in Chicago this past weekend than soldiers killed in Afghanistan in the past year. Is Russia paying for that too? Do you want war with Russia?

It's the part where he goes beyond paying "tribute to the exceptional lives and extraordinary legacies of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt."

Most of the rest was a campaign speech and Trump doesn't give unifying campaign speeches.

If you came away from the speech thinking "I can get behind this guy", you may not feel it was divisive. But if you came away knowing who needs to be defeated in the next election, then you recognize the divisiveness.

Ah, you have no defense for Trump KNOWING about Russia offering bounties for killing of our troops and doing NOTHING about it, so, you try to deflect to "Obama did {insert statement.}"
Whatever number of people were killed in Chicago on any particular weekend doesn't make Trump's traitorous malfeasance ok.
More people die in a month in car accidents than died on 911, so by your logic, bin Laden is off the hook.

News: Obama hasn't been president for nearly four years and he has no bearing on what Trump is or isn't doing now.

Orchestrated leaks from the "intelligence community " to the NYT are suspect. The leaker needs to be found fired and charged. It would be irresponsible to act on unverified intelligence. WMD in Iraq a prime example; there was a concerted effort for verification in that case which at best, in retrospect, tenuous.

Trump is pretty much the only one in Washington pushing to remove get the American military out of Afghanistan. He has made those still there safer by revoking the Obama era ROE.

Trump has been pressuring Germany to stop buying natural gas from Russia because that money is being used to fund Russia's military AND bounties IF there are bounties.

Do you want war with Russia?

"Leakers" gave us the Pentagon Papers and uncovered the Watergate scandal. You want to plug leaks of Trump corruption because you are a Trump cultist that doesn't care about his corruption and treason.

Corruption? NYT recieved a Pulitzer for fake news based on a leak. The corruption is in government colluding with journalists.
