Trump says ‘masks are good,’ urges Americans to wear them as coronavirus cases surge

Trump has no problem changing his mind. It's a hoax, it's really serious, why can't we have 19,000 people in one place, masks are bad, masks are good....if you believe him as your source you don't know what to believe.

Would you have preferred it if he had stayed opposed to masks?

You do understand you're putting Republican politicians in a no-win situation, that's why they're so reluctant to change their mind

Giving us half the message ... again, eh?!? :)

"... The president said people “should” wear masks if they “feel good about it” but said he didn’t think face coverings needed to be mandatory in public. ..."

Oh for **** sakes...

Well, don't worry, he'll be against masks again by Monday .

So are you saying that it's my fsult that Republican pols are ******s? Seriously, when you enter politics you open yourself up ti criticism.

So I met someone IRL that believes the virus is a hoax and says it will all go away if Trump loses in November...no mask for that dude obviously.

Fauci was on TV 2 days ago and of course was not wearing a mask.

I think it's hysterical that many reporters who appear on TV in isolation from all of humanity out in the middle of nowhere are wearing masks.

When a guy is alone with his own thoughts, wearing a mask seems to be a bit pointless.

Mask create and spread bacterial infections, while causing the wearing also to become infected with bacteria.

Wearing a mask also can cause the wearer to contract covid-19.

Wearing masks may increase your risk of coronavirus infection, expert says:
Panic buying and the hoarding of face masks to protect from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may not be a good idea, says a health expert. It puts you at an increased risk of contracting the virus.

Dr. Jenny Harries, England's deputy chief medical officer, has warned that it was not a good idea for the public to wear facemasks as the virus can get trapped in the material and causes infection when the wearer breathes in.

Wearing masks may increase your risk of coronavirus infection, expert says

This is why the states that have MOST imposed and forced stay-indoors and wear mask orders have the highest covid-19 death rates - and by a lot more. Masks do not protect you. They do not protect other people. The cheap and homemade masks people wear spread virus and bacteria and self infecting the wearer increasingly with pathogens including bacteria and virus - while so reducing oxygen intake and increasing co2 that the immune system is crippled and the person's body increasing breaks down.

I'll tell you what. Find a person sick with Covid not wearing a mask and have them cough right in your face and see what happens. All the experts have said that mask wearing is not 100% effective. They have all said that masks will reduce by 50% the spread of the virus. Thanks, but I do not listen to your ridiculous rantings. I'll wear my mask.

Trump is just a bit behind Fauci who pulled the same 180 on mask wearing by the general public. ;)

It's been pretty interesting to see this much confusion over masks. Dr. Fauci in a recent interview (NPR I think) was asked about that 180 on the use of masks, and his response was that the effort to keep certain types of masks available for front line workers was mishandled and miscommunicated. I was surprised that something so simple could be miscommunicated so spectacularly, because it really isn't that hard of a thing to communicate. The key pieces of information people need are on the level of protection certain masks provide, and the purpose of face coverings (which don't protect the individual). The difference between the 180 degree turns Fauci and Trump have taken is Trump talked about masks being used by some as symbols of disapproval toward him; that was a really daft thing to say.

Seat belts won't protect you in absolutely every accident and if used incorrectly could harm you, so don't wear seat belts!

:)

Surgeons do not wear homemade masks. Surgeons do not wear masks day and night, 7 days a week after week. Surgeons wear eye protection (goggles or face shield).

Bad example too. Surgeons' average lifespans are much shorter.

"The average lifetime of both male and female surgeons was 74.2 and 77. 5 years, respectively. The average life expectancy of people aged 25 years with college/university education is 80.3 years for men and 86.6 years for women."
Can the Surgeon Live His Whole Life? Analysis of the Risk of Death Related to the Profession - PubMed.

Surgeons are not dying younger from mask wearing. It has much more to do with stress and long grueling work hours. Your theory sucks. Who in the world do you think actually believes your lying?

Anything short of full "hazmat" PPE (including adequate eye protection) and are not going to render a person protected. The use of readily available kind(s) of face coverings (e.g. bandanas) which limit (but do not eliminate) viral airborne transmission should have been recommended from the outset.

Your message confirms what I have often posted. The majority of posters on this forum, by far, are on fixed income and retired. Therefore, they give up nothing and instead want the shut down to go on forever so they get more free money forever.

How many people do you know that work less than 2 hours a day at their job? All you confirmed is that you are an elderly person who doesn't give a damn about anyone else. Rather that staying inside if you are worried, you want everyone to sacrifice for you so you don't have to stay inside. Everyone exists singularly to serve your purposes and you want that required by law.

The shutdown goes on forever because there is no national leadership effort. Want the virus to end? Get rid of Trump.

Social distancing also impacts the effectiveness of masks, but no, there isn't 100% protection with the methods your average citizen is using. I do agree that the use of face coverings would have been really helpful from the very beginning. We failed to learn the lessons some Asian nations did with the H1N1 virus, which resulted in the common usage of face coverings and masks among those who are sick as a means of reducing infections.
