The president is saying the 2015 Iran nuclear deal is no longer in the United States’ national security interest, kicking a decision over whether to restore sanctions back to Congress.

More than I trust the bull**** CNN puts out. Trump just decertified the Iran Deal, said Congress has to do it the right way or it goes away for good.

Europe is in a tizzy too.

Trump will withdraw presidential support for the landmark nuclear deal -- known as the JCPOA -- but will stop short of killing the agreement, his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said.

"The intent is that we will stay in the JCPOA, but the president is going to decertify."

"We're saying, fine, they're meeting the technical compliance," he said indicating that the broader agreement would remain intact for now.

That will leave US lawmakers to decide its fate.

Renae. I just said that Trump was punting the issue to Congress. The sources you posted and their quotes just back that up.

"Will be terminated" =/= "The issue is going over to Congress." Try to keep this straight.

I said that's what he said and I was waiting for the caveats. He's decertifying the deal and leaving it to Congress to push it through proper or it falls.

Basically he's systematically taking all the Obama "Executive actions" and sending them to the proper place or ending them. in this case the Iran deal should have been a treaty not a Presidential sign off.

So then what. Let's say that Congress blows up this deal--which you and I both know they are extremely unlikely to do, but let's say they do it anyway. Then what? How do we keep nukes out of Iran without this deal in place? Maybe another ground war in the Middle East? What could possibly go wrong with that?!
 
The Senate ratifies treaties. And Trump is sending it back to do just that. Obama made a gentleman’s agreement. Not a treaty.

Obama half assed everything he touched because he was facing the same obstacles Trump is: congress won’t cooperate yet wont get engaged.
 
Trump didn't cancel the deal, he is giving ultimatum to the congress and other Europeans countries to fix the many flaws in the deal, and if they won't do that than he will cancel the deal.

Yes, Trump is doing with the Iran deal what he is doing with Obamacare and DACA--sending them to congress. Where those issues belong. If congress does nothing to address the major issues of the day, then the fault lies with congress, not the president.

Him not certifying is meaningless and even if he could get congress to go along with his nuttiness while ignoring all his advisers Europe won't go along so it would be meaningless for Iran.

Keep in mind that the hardliners in Iran don't like the deal. They don't trust the U.S. They want to continue working on nuclear weapons. It's the moderate Iranians who fought for this deal.

American conservatives are almost identical to fundamentalist Islamists. They're both irrational theocratic gay hating war mongers.

Let me restate something that almost no conservative can wrap their mind around. There are Sunni Muslims and there are Shiite Muslims. Iran is Shiite. Al Qaeda and ISIS are Sunni. It's the Sunni's who are inspired by the fundamentalist Wahhabism who attack us. It's Saudi Arabia that exports and supports teaching of Wahhabism all over the region. The 9/11 terrorists were mostly Saudi. Iran is the mortal enemy of ISIS and Al Qaeda.

Israel and Iran are enemies and Iran supports Hezbollah and other anti-Israel military groups. But that doesn't make them terrorists anymore than our support of Contra rebels against the Sandinista government made the U.S. terrorist supporters.

It's totally insane how we ignore Saudi Arabia's support of terrorism and extremism and ally with them as they export the real terrorists who blow themselves up and go on shooting sprees.
 
Congress is just playing the role of Trump staff.

Dear China, Russia, France, Germany and the U.K.,

Much like the wall and the Muslim ban, our courts and legislature will make sure Our Supreme Leader's dictates with regard to the treaty will be enforced with all the deference his, ahem, wisdom requires.

Actually if Congress does nothing (which they are so good at) the deal stays in place. Congress would need to vote to re-apply sanctions to end the deal. Iran could use Trump's move as an excuse withdraw from the agreement and have a nuke in a year.
Trump has given a huge boost to the radicals in Iran while snubbing the current moderate Govt.

The Contras were not supported to be terrorists. They were supported against terrorists. That it went sideways is anyone's fault.

Hez targets civilians and their education system is hate propaganda.

Iran is a state sponsor. It presumably also has private citizens that sponsor stuff and it does nothing or encourages it.

What does that have to do with my post? These issues belong in congress. If congress doesn't act, then they don't get done. That is how the government works. Don't like it? Vote for new members of congress.

Saudi Arabia is the ideological birthplace of Wahhabism, a strain of radical fundamentalist Islam that has provided the inspiration for terrorist groups in the Middle East.

Cooperation means friends? When was the last time Iran gave us terrorist intel or conducted a joint operation?
