Trump not attending the White House Correspondents Dinner

Actually now they can all attend and blow smoke up each others butts and pat each other on the back telling one another how wonderful they are while trashing Trump in his absence.

Let them go for it. And when it is said and done, they may just make the case what Trump has been saying all along about them.

I've noticed that I have started watching HBO, Ion and USA Network more since he was sworn in. I would have trouble telling you the last news program I have sought out to watch.
 
I doubt anyone there will miss him.

From the WHCA website:

Proceeds from the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner go toward scholarships and awards that recognize aspiring and accomplished journalists. Auctions and raffles of WHCA DINNER tickets designed to raise money for other organizations or for commercial purposes are against the policy of the WHCA.

So it is more than just getting together and boozing it up. There is a reason for it.

As for the politics of it; minor blowback if he doesn't attend; larger blowback if he does; it will just be another example of his White House not being able to get out of it's own way.
WHCA would probably do well to rescind the invitation 72 hours out. They have no obligation to invite the President. They have no obligation to the President what so ever.

It was to build bonds, Washington social glue, but since the elite have no interest in doing that for so long as the Rebellion hold the WH there is no point other than to get Trump and make themselves feel better about their immoral behavior which they are sure is justified by a good cause.

Of course they are wrong.

The greatest Correspondents dinner ever was George W. Bush with an impersonator of himself, I'd say it was one of the turning points with me to actually liking the guy (personally), showed he could have a bit of a laugh at his own expense and that's what many people crave from their leaders, levity, showing a more human side.

It's not unprecedented for Presidents not to go, not every President went to every single one, Obama went to all 8 but that's not really relevant.

At a time when the country is still freshly bitterly divided, at a time when the one thing people need is levity, he shies away from what is a tremendous (to use his own repertoire) opportunity to show another side, to have a laugh, to show perhaps even for a moment to his most ardent detractors that he's not a monster.

It makes him look small and petty in the eyes of most. Other Presidents have gone there and have taken their lumps. That he isn't willing to is regrettable. Politically His supporters will support him no matter how he acts, what he accomplishes or not, whether what he says has any truth to it or not and whether they know better or not. Trump and immoral behavior are pretty much one in the same so it's an argument on thin ice that he's going to stand up for some bizarro morality.

It doesn't move the needle much in either direction.
