I was really happy to hear this. From what we're seeing in the States, I think it is highly unlikely that they will still be the world leader in even 10 years. China is destined to take over that roll, and Trump is only speeding up the process, so it is excellent to see Trudeau positioning Canada to make this transition with minimum strain on our infrastructure.
To Canada's benefit.
Yeah, whatever party is in power, Trump has ensured that they can shift the focus of our trade towards Eastern Asia without domestic disagreement, which will only help Canada in the long run.
In truth there is a shift occurring here. I was astonished to see how weak is the new Conservative leader, "Andrew who" has faded into oblivion at a time when PET2 deliberately faded into the back ground. He was virtually invisible until NAFTA 2 was declared and then stepped up.
Justin Trudeau is certainly his father in intelligence and ability to read the electorate, but he is his mother in attitude and mien. He likes to be under estimated which, which is exactly what Trump has done, and people forget that while his wfather's sports where swimming and canoeing, Justin is a boxer. Boxers can take punches all day long and rally when needed and he has shown that in spades, dear Mr. Harper and co. are still in the "what the ****? He's a kid who smokes pot and he cleaned out clock.
I said then and say now is was the election of the generations and the of the 'old guard' in Ottawa, even the mandarins cheered when he won ...at last we can spend some money". Since then the nation has gone more deeply into the Canadian liberal philosophy, in part driven there by a womanizing, hate filled racist who is too stupid to see what all of Canada knows, Trudeau is a brilliant man with a gang of brilliant planners and shakers.
I will give you a hint to how this crowd works (they were the same people who bailed out Cristy Clark five years ago from 22 points deficit to a gain in seats) the so-called "blooper" of Trudeau having smoked pot while a sitting MP was deliberately staged, the time picked with care, the day, a week end so that the news cycle would replay during the week.
And every Tory, Conservative fell for it. They spent millions attacking Trudeau with "he wants to sell pot to your kids and the pot smoking electorate said "enough" we want our country back.
I have seen nearly 70 years of living most of it here, and I have never seen such a dramatic change in the populace of the country in the immediate aftermath of the election, an atmosphere that is building.
I do not fear for Canada because of Donald Trump, I doubt he could get elected to Toronto city hall even with Doug Ford's help...and in closing, Doug Ford and his Trumpesque revenge is going to embed Canadian liberalism deeper than it has even been.
Americans forget like people forget Trudeau is a boxer, that Canada's national hockey team rules the world. How that matters is simple...one of the basic rules of Canadian governance since Mackenzie King, 'you do NOT piss off Canadian women'.
Oh yeah, Trump is going to be very good for Canada in the long run.
