Trump is the true socialist

After President Trump picked trade wars with nearly every major U.S. trading partner — friend and foe alike — U.S. exports of soybeans, pork and other agricultural products dried up. The president subsequently decided to cover up one foolish economic policy with another, and another. He launched not one but two rounds of massive farmer bailouts, together totaling tens of billions of dollars.

Yet Republican politicians have portrayed neither of these taxpayer-funded handouts as “socialist.”

Nor do Republicans cry “socialism” when the treasury secretary lectures U.S. retailers and manufacturers about how and where they should reallocate their supply chains; nor when the president himself lectures firms about what products to stock; nor when the administration tries to get other countries to engage in more centralized economic planning — by, for example, demanding that European political leaders commit private companies to buy more U.S. crops anPolling last fall from YouGov, for instance, found that Republicans overwhelmingly supported Trump’s trade-war-driven farmer bailout, despite an avowed antipathy for “socialism.” A separate YouGov poll conducted this week asked respondents whether they considered various policies to be examples of socialism, such as free college tuition (according to Republicans: yes!), or Social Security and government medical care for veterans (both no, somehow). Medicare for the elderly is decidedly not socialist, but something approximating Medicare for everyone definitely is .

So maybe the problem isn’t hypocrisy, exactly. It’s that the word “socialist,” to Republicans at least, has evolved to mean anything the other side is for.

You would be hard-pressed to find better recent examples of the U.S. government trying to exert influence, if not outright control, over the means of production, both domestically and abroad.

When not disrupting previously functional industries, Republicans have also been busy propping up failing ones. Consider the case of coal.

When a world wide struggle to establish or restore justice and fairness is undertaken, there will be some unusual steps taken.

Trump is trying to undo the mistakes and intentional stupidities of his predecessors.

As a leader moving his country in the opposite direction indicated previously, sometimes you need to take a step back to take two steps forward.

I'm confused; Trump has flip-flopped his political affiliation five times already, I believe-something of a record. He is currently a conservative because it is convenient, just as it was convenient to be a liberal and support Hillary Clinton by donating to her campaign. Oh, and Kamala Harris was also a recipient of Trump bribes, among other liberals.

All most of us see are the steps backward, when do we start moving forward? Is there another giant tax cut in the works for the wealthy and corporate america?

I don't think that writer knows what "socialist" means.

Well then, he has quite a lot in common with many of the Trumpeteers on this very site, lol.

Trump's policies economically exist in both the domestic and the international areas.

Domestically, there have been vast improvements:

Do you have a job? Do you know what you pay in taxes? If you have a job and pay Federal Tax, your tax liability went down unless your state plays games with your taxes.

You seem to have missed the news.

At this moment, there are more Americans working at higher wage rates developing greater personal wealth across more demographics and as a whole population than at any point in American history.

What news sources do you use to avoid the real world?

Internationally, our trade agreements have been negotiated by diplomats interested in achieving results that have not always been exclusively aimed at benefitting American Businesses.

Trump has objected to these arrangements and is working to redress them.

He has said what he prefers is "Mirror Tariffs". This sounds good to me as well, but there are complications with that as well. Seems like simplicity, honesty and lawyers just don't mix well.

Regarding China in particular, that country has been stealing intellectual property for years. Trump sees theft as a bad thing. His opponents seem to love it.

Do you love theft?

I have come to the conclusion that quite a lot of folks view socialism as the government taking over all the responsibilities, welfare and taking care of an individual for life. In other words socialist according to those want the government to provide a living wage, free healthcare, free college, guarantee a comfortable retirement, provide food and clothing along with shelter, among other things. Maybe not even a living wage, but give them money whether they work or not.

Socialism to these types means an individual can make no bad decisions, take no bad actions, basically do nothing wrong and if they do it is always someone else's fault, not theirs. Government takes away all the responsibilities for living their life.

Now I don't know what percentage these type of thinkers of what socialism is make up here in America. But reading a lot of posts here, listening to TV and reading thoughts across the internet, that view of socialism isn't rare. In other words government takes care of you cradle to grave and you be a good socialist by worshiping government and doing everything it tells you to do.

Am I alone in noticing that many folks have this type of view of socialism or not? More or less total government control of an individual's life.

He won't last. He wasn't elected by the people for a start, but by the Conservative Party membership (124,000), and he has plenty of opposition within the Tory party to contend with.

And yet, he's there.

Go figure...

And he seems to be working to limit foreign control of British Governmental actions.

Is that what has you upset with him?

No, what upsets me are his serial lies-like, for example, that we would save £350 million a week by leaving the EU. Blatant, cynical lies.

Just proves why the rest of the World looks at the UK and laughs.

Kind of explains why you avoid commenting about it, and fixate on a country you don't live in.

Nobody but 124,000 Tories elected Johnson. He is totally unfit, and as hopelessly inept as the idiot you elected, and who we all laugh at from over here. If you want a thread about Johnson start one, and I'll be delighted to voice my opinions.
Oh, and here's a poll on global opinion of Britain. In the interests of balance I have also posted one on America, but you won't like it, I can promise you that.

So what? Just more evidence of the circus you blokes created and tolerate.

Again, explains why the utter embarrassment of the UK causes some to lash out elsewhere.

Like Trump promising to eliminate the total national debt in 8 yrs. Then reduce a big chunk, but not saying how much. All the while blaming Obama for his spending even though Obama was lowering the deficits. Now his budget deal increases the budget by $300B and raises the debt ceiling by $320B. And like everything he said, Trumpsters swallowed it hook, line and sinker. This guy is practically incapable of telling the truth, a pathological liar. And Trumpsters believe his lies and ignore the facts. Ignorance is bliss.

I'm not embarrassed, just disappointed that we seem to have sunk to your level.
