He did not say that they were not American's... he referenced them going back to their countries of ancestry, and for Omar, that is pretty recently a foreign country. Saying go back to where you came from to a black American is obviously racist... they were brought here as slaves and had no choice. Saying go back to where you came from to a newer America that comes here voluntarily and then just ****s on the place that they CHOSE to come to is not racist because they can simply leave and go to a better place.

One point I would like to make is that there is a difference between saying that "X is racist" and "X made a racist comment." Someone may not be racist in his personal life but may still intentionally make a racist comment for whatever reason (such as pandering racists in order to win an election).

On the other hand, one can say that the result and consequences between someone who acts like a racist and someone who is racist are not that different.

This time Mr. Trump IS 100% correct - many Americans DO agree with him.
