Trump cannot back down from Canada

Bucky,
Did you forget?

Here's a MAP with fuel costs and travel time for a typical dairy truck departing Calgary to Fort McPherson, which is one of those remote towns you'd have to service.

Calgary? That isn't a problem. We can easily deliver in Nunavut.

You realize Alasaka is part of the United States, right????

I assume you are joking? You ship the milk via plane or boats.

Do you realize North Canada is next to Alaska? Right?

To each and every hamlet, spaced hundreds of miles apart? Factor in the costs, Bucky.
Sorry dude, but trucking is how most of this stuff is shipped up there, not planes.
A plane cannot carry enough dairy products to service thousands of remote villages.
There is ONLY ONE dairy farm in all of Alaska.
Havemeister Dairy in Palmer is now the state's only remaining dairy.

I assume YOU ARE JOKING. I assume that because you're playing games with real issues that you know nothing about.
I have a brother who worked in logistics for thirty years, so I did happen to learn a little just by talking to him.

A LITTLE...I learned a TINY bit! And I'm still exposing your game as a fool's errand.
You should consider yourself lucky my brother isn't a member here.

A country's agricultural industry does need protection. We actually do have a national security interest in helping farmers have buffers against the uncertainties which make farmers unsure whether they will be able to stay in business. Trump kinda sorta got that right. But it needs to be done wisely. Blaming Canada for our problems is not getting it right.

Maybe more important than revamping NAFTA is revamping our own subsidy system.

Sadly the only GOP plan I heard about this year in connection with that was going to increase the amount of cheating which goes on with subsidies ... letting people claim to be farmers and claim subsidies if they had only had a nominal financial interest in the farm and just visited it once a month.

We need to boost our farmers though bad times but not incentivize the kind of overproduction which is now eating Wisconsin farmers' lunch. Overproduction in Wisconsin and overproduction from other states who are sending their milk to Wisconsin to be processed.

Canadian tariffs are a tiny part of our problem. Canadian competitiveness in the world may be a little bigger problem for us, but no matter how many concessions we get from Canadians, that won't solve the bulk of our farming problems. Most of our problems are homegrown.

Well, goodnight everyone. This has been my favorite thread in a long time. This is important stuff to study, and important stuff to get right. Our food supply is a big deal.

If Trump were to WIN the milk thing, which HE WON'T (guaranteed) it means Canadians outside the major cities better damn well start building barns and buying cows because that will spell the end of milk butter and cheese outside everything but the major cities in Canada forever.

There's hundreds of little villages scattered around, I only pointed to ONE as a single example, are you really that dense?
There is only ONE dairy farm in Alaska.

Are you actually incapable of opening a map and scanning the Northwest Territories and looking at all the little villages that stretch from one end to the other?

I think you're just playing dumb.

Partial section of Yukon and NW Territories
One snapshot, 600 miles across by 400 miles North to South - total 240 000 square miles.

I wish your brother were here I'm sure he certainly could add something. I have been in logistics for 40+ years(retired, but not completely out of touch), and believe we both could help with the discussion.

I think you have found the solution. Remove the tariffs and Trump will help fund more dairy farms in Alaska. We should honestly just drill the hell out of ANWR and get as much oil as we can, completely

You are worried about tiny villages and tribes. I am worried about global economic growth.

No, I'm not worried in the least, Canada is.
I'm just proving to everyone else that you haven't slightest idea what you're talking about and neither does Trump.

And Canada's dairy industry is going to tell Trump to go pound sand.

I have no idea what he is talking about. He is scared if the United States brings milk into Canada, their entire dairy agriculture will collapse and certain villages won't be able to drink milk.

:screwy

Must be drinking some bad warm Canadian beer.

It's been very enjoyable and entertaining watching you pretend to be Admiral Peary practicing "gunboat diplomacy" as if Canada is somehow China in the early 1900's, but I am bored now because in the end, this is just a game to you, just as it is to the Orange Man Baby.

Actually the entertaining portion has been that of kicking your ass from here to Kingdom Come on the issue.

Canada's dairy industry is a cartel.

I am confused indeed. You act like the United States is incapable of delivering produce to remote islands or villages.

It is incredible how you can be as dense as you are, so I assume you're doing it as a game.
First, I am not "scared" because I do not live in Canada.
Second, it is clear that Canada operates at least PART of their dairy industry as something of a loss leader.
They profit from selling to the major urban centers but they are required to absorb the losses incurred in distributing all over the remote reaches of the country, which is something a US interloper would NOT be willing to DO, because they would lose money doing it.

And that is why Canada has tariffs....leave their dairy farmers alone and Canada will help them absorb the losses inherent in keeping those remote areas stocked. And that is why Canada will tell Trump to go pound sand and that they have no intention of sacrificing their dairy industry because he thinks he's some kind of bully.

And here you are thinking Rocky and Bullwinkle can just drop half gallons of 2% out of a passing Sopwith Camel airplane to happy eskimos.
You're insulting the intelligence of nearly EVERYONE on this forum.

Ask FedEx if they can deliver mail to every mailbox in every tiny podunk village in the USA the way our Post Office does - AT A PROFIT.

You're the one who doesn't understand certain realities.

Please CB, Don't disparage our President. I understand that you aren't happy with the current administration. I spent several years unhappy with the Country's direction. The difference is, I never felt the hatred some others seem to have for the outcome of an election. I hope you will someday realize the office is often more worthy of respect, than any individual. I have, and it isn't that hard.

PS will you ever tell how you picked your nick? That would probably as interesting any other post

The recent surge of Northeast Republicans, fairly sane ones, is now at risk. This surge has gone unnoticed by novice politicos. Northern State Republicans, especially Governors fairly safe, are now fretting.

Independents are now moving and getting more energized. McConnell will only move, as GOPs did in 1974, when polls continue to tank for GOPs. Pence is McConnell’s wild 😜 Card.

This 60 day Thing will belong to the two Bobs, Mueller and Woodward.

‘Lost his Legacy’ Grassley is only giving 3% of requested info, compared to 💯 % from Kagan and Sotomayor.

There’s no need for any ‘timid’ lefties, not you, to give any political Quarter or Mercy to Republicans, since McConnell hasn’t for two decades since Clinton in 1998.

Please CB, Don't disparage our President.

Since all this President does is disparage anything good and decent with the USA 🇺🇸 , spare us the phony Outrage and Patriotism. Trump has already received his reward.

#45 has now Lost Veterans, Farmers, Suburban White Women, any Minority, and now Independents. All Republicans are wedded at the hip to Trump.

A separate deal with Mexico 🇲🇽 requires 60 votes 🗳 in the Senate.

It won’t get 40, though that deal will fall apart, like ALL trump deals.

WHAT::: You are either kidding, or have a undeserved respect for some Moron who has told you what to think! If you believe you're right, what is(are) your own specific gripes? Grow a pair, and tell your companions to put up or shut up!

Why on earth should Trump back down? He is operating from a position of strength.

Canada won't win.

Canada doesn't enter negotiations intending to win. That's an American atttude.

Can I ask you a question? Do you support Capitalism?

In capitalism, you have real winners and losers. If the Canadian dairy industry would collapse because of a free market, let it.

Imagine if the U.S charged a 300% tariffs on all foreign vehicles to prop up U.S Automakers. The great thing about America is that I can buy a car from Germany, South Korea, Japan, United States, even Canada eh?

And guess what? Ford, GM, Chrysler are still standing!

You know, opening up your markets forces competition and most importantly benefits the consumer.

Our dairy farm subsidies are the opposite of a "free market" and cost us $20 billion a year. It is clear you have no concept of a free market and instead want a crooked market slanted in our favor. That is how Trump always wins ....by cheating. He has never had a honest victory in his life.

Canada doesn't enter negotiations intending to win. That's an American atttude.

Oh, sure. Care to buy a bridge? Who, except Canadians, in your posit, enters into negotiations with no expectation'? I have way too much respect for our Northern brothers to think that. Who, are you trying to convince? You?

Please..don't lump as all into one boat. It's a Trumpian attitude..... to win by bullying and cheating because he has no chance at an honest negotiation. Trump is our first criminal President and hopefully our last. Heard a good joke....If Trump really wants Hillary to go to jail he should HIRE HER.

I see that as a Globe 🌍 Wide Problem, though our stain on the Planet 🌏 right now is most disconcerting to Sane Americans.

Instead of celebrating the ‘great’ in all human beings, we have to ‘be better’ than others, diverge versus converge.

I see that as everyone’s definition of God, versus everyone under One ☝️ Creator. As long as Man runs this World 🗺, we will continue thousands of years of War.

My Wife and I still lament what was lost in the Alexandria Fires 🔥.

Just know that 💯 million Eisenhowers are rising from the ashes of this Century.
